SEPTEMBER 2019 Free TOM LONG’S POST The Monthly Newsletter of Minchinhampton Parish Council Minchinhampton Parish Council | Serving your Local Community BROKEN GLASS HAZARD We’d like to say a huge Thank You to our friends at Stroud Town Council for helping us clear up broken glass at the Glebe play area. Vigilant residents alerted us of the problem and we were able to get the play area safe for use again within just a few days. This is at least the third time that it’s happened in recent weeks, which is disgraceful. We’ve alerted the police and our neighbourhood warden, Chris James. If anyone knows how the glass got there, please tell them or us (Incident 145 19/8/19): play areas are for playing. COUNCIL SNIPPETS We can confirm that Box, Forwood and Hampton Fields village greens are registered as common land, all in Minchinhampton Parish Council’s ownership. Cllr Pippa Schwartz reports that so far it’s been a good year for the cattle on the Commons with only two minor collisions between animals and vehicles. (Alfie’s much better, too.) There have, however, been some cattle deaths due to parasites. More formal car-parking arrangements are on the way at New Lodge to prevent further erosion. The trailer-mounted illuminated messages would in future be powered by biodiesel. New, bigger water troughs have improved cattle welfare. Discussions had been held with the circus to ensure all protection measures were in place for its visit to the Great Park. The Council has agreed to take ownership of the issue of the potential adoption of a flight of steps at Burleigh so as to rescue them from their poor state of repair. Council will approach Gloucestershire County Council to try to get the permissive route adopted. The Parish’s Rights of Way officer Cllr Charlie Morriss will lead the initiative. Council has considered the draft response by Mid Cotswold Tracks and Trails Group (representing horse riders) to Gloucestershire County Council plans to formalise the use of the Dudbridge to Nailsworth track. OUR COMMUNITY PROJECT OF THE YEAR? Minchinhampton surgery’s Patient Participation Group has been short-listed the 2019 Community Project in the Pride of the Cotswolds awards. Its volunteer drivers provide around 100 patient trips every month to appointments in Gloucestershire, and sometimes beyond. If you want to be a volunteer driver or benefit from the service, either visit the surgery’s website, email [email protected] or ask at Reception.
