Dear Parents, Families and Community Members, What an absolute joy it was to accompany our Prep to Year 4 students to the Darling Downs Zoo on Wednesday. We had a lovely time and all had a favourite type of animal. My favourite type of animal was the giraffes! Thank you to Mrs Janz for her fabulous organisation (to the tiniest detail) for this excursion to go ahead. School Photos were taken today and the information on the online ordering system is being sent home with students. As you would be aware things are changing daily in our current times and I will keep you updated as information comes to hand. Please keep an eye on emails and MGM messages. School will continue until further notice. I am putting things in place in line with the information from the Director-General of Education. Plans have been, and are being formulated in the event of learning being offsite if required. Non-essential visitors to school are now being limited, so our volunteers will not be visiting school for reading. Playgroup has now finished until further notice. School banking has been placed on hold until further notice from the bank. Face-to-face meetings unless essential, are now postponed or cancelled. Bullying. No Way! Day has been postponed. The School Performance Tour scheduled for Monday has been cancelled. All excursions are to be cancelled or postponed from Monday 21st, so our cross country will not be going ahead at Bizzells’ farm. Special Parade is cancelled, as is the P&C meeting on 2nd April. Our ANZAC Dawn Service organised by the P&C is also cancelled. Please ensure your child/ren bring along their own water bottle to school each day. A very tough decision was made to postpone our very special Garden Party. A new date will be sent out in the future. We are very grateful for the positive support we have received over this decision. It was not made lightly. There has been a huge amount of planning and work towards the Garden Party and I would like to once again thank and acknowledge the GP20 committee for their work and organisation especially in these challenging times. A special shout out to Mel Patch for being the person at the end of the phone and emails! We will be handing out interim reports in Week 10. The interim report is a snapshot to keep you informed of how your child has progressed in their learning this term. A big thank you to Mr Don Dreyer for collecting cans and bottles for the P&C. He has been avid in supporting the P&C and school through collecting bottles and cans from the Oakey Bowls Club. Thank you Don!

The Toowoomba Show public holiday is a gazetted holiday and will still go ahead next week on Thursday 26th March. Our school is a polling booth and voting will be held on Saturday 28th March. Voting is held in the Year 2 classroom. There is an insect repellant fact and consent sheet with this newsletter. I have registered our school to participate in the Prime Minister’s Spelling Bee. The registered competition is for students in Years 3-6. Students will be selected from spelling results on a school spelling quiz. I will run this from Prep to Year 6 for some fun spelling for all students on a date to be confirmed. I am planning to use Tuesday 24th March as our term Curriculum Day if we can source replacement teachers. This day will be used for preparation for offsite learning (if required). CGEN parents – all rehearsals have been postponed. This week was our last tuckshop for the term. Thank you to Mrs Edmondstone and Mrs Keutmann for their work in the tuckshop this term. Take care.

Kind Regards, Sharon
