Head Lice are tiny insect parasites that live on your head and feed on your scalp. Head lice are spread by head-to-head contact with another person who has head lice. This kind of contact includes doing group work, playing, or hugging. Tips for preventing head lice

Check your child’s hair reqularly for head lice and eggs (‘nits’). Use a metal fine tooth ’nit’ comb and plenty of hair conditioner applied to the dry hair, to make the task easier and more effective. To help children sit still for this, offer distracting activities, e.g play a favourite video, provide games, ipad apps.

Tie long hair back. Braid long hair and /or put it up if possible.

Consider applying hair gel or mousse. These do not prevent or repel lice but may help to keep stray hair strands from contact with other heads.

Avoid sharing combs or brushes.

Remind your child to avoid head-to-head contact with other children, e.g when working at the computer with others, or when playing, or hugging.

The Children in Room 2 participating in Talk4Writing, Maths-Measurement and a recent incursion by St John’s Ambulance around safety and first aid. The children learned how to identify an emergency and used pretend mobile phones to dial 000 for help. Then they practiced first response and calling 000 with each other. Mr Byrne has been teaching in our room this term and he is enjoying learning our crazy classroom routines and enjoying getting to know us all.

On Monday 27 May all students will be participating in a musical workshop with the well-known Noongar singers Gina Williams and Guy Ghouse in celebration of Reconciliation Week. National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. The dates for NRW remain the same each year; 27 May to 3 June. These dates commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey— the successful 1967 referendum, and the High Court Mabo decision respectively. At its heart, reconciliation is about strengthening relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous peoples, for the benefit of all Australians. All parents and families are invited to attend. K-2 students will meet in the assembly area at 11:10am for their 30 minute session with Gina and Guy. Years 3-6 students will have their 30 minute session between 11:50am and 12:20pm.

Thank you to our Parents, Carers, and Community Members for supporting our school in this competition. Look out for the “My School Rules” display in the centre mall to post your shopping dockets. Term 1 results are due soon.
