This week’s supporting slides start relatively easy looking at a number shown in different representations. For example in tens and ones, dienes or on a ten frame. It is important the children can accurately identify how many tens and ones are in a number and are secure with place value before moving on to column addition. This ensures for if we added 4+8=12 they would understand that the 1 is actually ten and therefore needs to be added to the tens column. If your child needs further challenge extend them by asking them to put numbers in the hundreds in to a place value grid. By ensuring the understand how to use place value grids this supports the transition to column method of addition. The share slide provides you an example of methods we would use to show the answer in school. Lesson 1
