THE VILLAGE NEWS
BELMONT VILLAGE AT CARDIFF BY THE SEA
OCTOBER 2017
Sadie’s Corner
Greetings and grab your coat! We’ve had a hot summer. I’m soglad it is beginning to cool herein sunny San Diego.
Thank you to all the familymembers, residents and visitorswho continue to check in andout at the front desk. OurAccushied program has provenvery beneficial for us behind thescenes. Although we have NOThad to screen anyone out, it is agreat way for us to know who isin the community at any giventime in case we have a realemergency. As a reminder to allresidents, if you leave thecommunity from L2, please callthe front desk so we can checkyou out.
Along those lines, pleaseremember that our exit doorsare all alarmed now. In responseto the industry trend ofelopements, we decided toconnect the doors to thestairwells, the exit doors and anumber of internal doors thatlead to an exit. They are tied toour new and improved radio callsystem. If you exit/enter analarmed door, all staff will benotified and will do a residenthead count in response to thealarm. This is our commitmentto keeping our residents safe atBelmont Village and we
appreciate your support.Notice less chatter on the
radios? Belmont Villageupgraded the call light softwareand is now using iPods for thedirect care staff. We continue touse the radios forcommunication with the frontdesk and housekeeping, but thepals and nurses now have iPods. This is great for trackingcommunication. There is nothingmore frustrating than trying totalk on the radio and not beingheard because of traffic. Nowwe have a quiet and thoroughtracking mechanism for theemergency call light system. And as stated above, the iPodsare also connected to the exitalarms throughout thecommunity.
Even though the days will begetting shorter, Belmont won’tbe short on fun things to do.Last month left us hoppin’ withour fun ’50s party, and thismonth we discover Bavarianculture through Oktoberfest! Didyou know that southern Bavariawas once known for its terriblewater supply, and in order toavoid cholera the locals wouldwet their whistles with the saferalternative of beer?
Have a wonderful Halloweenand read on to see what otherspecial events we have plannedfor this month!

Come hear why residents ofassisted living communitiesmight want to consider a planthat gives access to MobileDoctors, what rights your annualnotice of change might give you,and how to get access to mobiledoctors with a supplement, evenif you aren’t in the best health.
Kathe Kline was a financialplanner for 25yrs before turningher attention to helping peopledecipher the confusing optionsof Medicare. Due to that error, her husband will pay a penaltyfor the rest of his life. Kathedecided to dedicate more timeto helping people avoid thismistake. Thus, she foundedMedicareQuick. Kathe has apassion for helping othersuntangle the plans available sothey know exactly what theirMedicare covers . Kathe is alsothe creator of a Podcast knownthrough-out the United States as“Rock Your Retirement.” Katheis a delightful speaker and youwill gain a clear understandingof what Medicare’s Annual OpenEnrollment is and the optionsyou have. Circle of Friends
As the dog days of summerare at a close, the time to go tonational parks is now! OnNational Parks Day, COFresidents participated in adebate on whether or notpeople should be charged a userfee for general entry andrecreation in the park.
“A user fee is necessary formaintenance of the park,” GlennG. said. “Who else is going topay for it?”
However, Lillian disliked a feeon the grounds that the parkswere created for everyoneto enjoy.
“A fee of $30 or more pervehicle is high for families whomay not be able to afford it,”she said. “It’s even moreexpensive if the parks charge afee per person.”
In addition to debates likethis, COF enjoyed making theirown mini pizzas for Pizza PizazzDay. For William Taft and FlagDay, they created a no-bake flagcheesecake.
“No bake? So that means noegg, or flour,” Marcia N. said.
She was right. This cake onlyrequired mascarpone cheese, cream cheese, heavy whippingcream, sugar, and a splash oflemon juice! Blueberries andstrawberries made up the starsand stripes!
Our COF activities are alwaysenriched by the input of thegroup, especially when theyshare their past experiences.
