Tarmac has never been so comfortable.

The Travego is built for discerning travel requirements: it impresses with its state-of-the- art technology, economical driving, elegant design and excellent comfort. It is one of the safest and most successful coaches in the world. The models have been developed for the demands of business owners for economic efficiency, safety and the comfort of their passengers and also tested under the harshest conditions from the Arctic Circle to South Africa.

Mercedes-Benz has traditionally been a pioneer in the development of environmentally friendly, innovative drive technologies – most recently with BlueEfficiency Power technology. It already satisfied the new emission standard two years before implemen-tation of Euro VI became mandatory. The Travego was the first vehicle in the entire Mercedes-Benz coach range to be fitted with the new generation of environmentally friendly engines in 2012. Thanks to constant safety-related enhancements and design innovations, this made it a pioneer in a new environmentally friendly era. The fuel con-sumption of the current OM 471 is reduced by a further 4 per cent compared to its predecessor thanks to the Fuel Efficiency (FE) package.

The Travego is the first bus in the world with the Active Brake Assist 3 (ABA 3) emergency braking system available on request. The braking system is able to actuate emergency braking automatically even in the case of stationary obstructions. The threat of a collision can therefore be prevented even more effectively. Since 2015, the Advanced Emergency Brake System (AEBS) has been ensuring safety in every Travego. And the already exem-plary safety equipment is also supplemented by the SPA Lane Departure Warning Sys-tem as standard equipment. It warns the driver through a true-side pulse in the seat if the bus threatens to leave the correct lane unintentionally.

The driver enjoys the best possible support in the Travego, thus ensuring he reaches his destination safely and in a relaxed state. This support ranges from an ergonomically designed workplace to innumerable electronic safety and assistance systems which pro-vide him with support during the journey. For example, the adaptive cruise control (ACC) ensures that a preselected distance to vehicles driving in front is automatically maintained. The additional Stop & Go function (ACC with a stopping assistant) also accelerates the Travego from a stationary position to the selected speed again. And the Attention Assist (AtAs) system reminds the driver at regular intervals to take a break in good time so that a loss of concentration can be ruled out.

Repair & MaintenanceA bus only earns money when it’s on the road. Unscheduled servicing increases downtime and generates high costs for your fleet organisation. For this reason Mercedes-Benz buses and coaches are designed to make repair and maintenance as infrequent and as short as possible. All parts are designed to be particularly durable, and easy to access. With the Travego, long maintenance intervals of up to 120,000 kilometres lead to an improvement in the overall economic efficiency. Maintenance intervals for the OM 470 and OM 471 have extended by up to 30 per cent in comparison to the predecessor engines. Throughout the useful life of the vehicle, the OMNIplus service network is available to you with tailored services and the 24h SERVICE.

InvestmentInvestment in a new bus is a decision that needs to be planned with the utmost care. We will listen carefully so we can respond to your requirements, and find the right vehicle for you. Economical and powerful BlueEfficiency engines, high overall efficiency, numerous safety features and a comprehensive comfort features make the Travego a top-class coach. The service package is also tailored to your operating requirements: with OMNIplus Expert Hand-ling Training*, OMNIplus service contracts, FleetBoard vehicle management, and Mercedes-Benz Financial Ser-vices. Ever since its launch, the Travego has demonstrated its outstanding qualities, including exemplary environ-mental friendliness, economic efficiency and technology. Equipped with the latest BlueEfficiency Power, the top model among coaches continues this tradition.

Every bus costs money, but the Travego saves.

The Travego sets the highest safety standards and underscores its excellent reputation as one of the safest coaches in the world. It also impresses with its high-quality and comfortable equipment. The Travego achieves an excellent TCO thanks to its appropriate purchase price, efficient BlueEfficiency Power engines with a further reduction in fuel consumption, long maintenance intervals and reduced maintenance costs.

The engine and all the important units are easily accessible for easy maintenance. Our Services portfolio provides you with complete, customised services and an excellent supply of spare parts to put your vehicle back on the road quickly. Repairs and maintenance do not just cost money – they also involve downtimes. That is why maintenance stopovers should be as rare and as short as possible. And if something should happen to go wrong, we never leave you in the lurch: our ServiceNetwork is the most dense, bus-specific network and pro-vides rapid assistance through our 24h SERVICE in the event of repairs.

The BlueEfficiency Power engine generation with BlueTec® 6 is convincing not only because of its high environmental compatibility, but also because of its excellent economic efficiency. In spite of the higher requirements, we have succeeded in keeping the fuel consumption low. The precisely coordinated powertrain and an automatic transmission with anti cipatory gearshifting ensure an efficient journey.

Your Travego also saves more energy with an integrated water retarder. The secondary retarder uses the engine cooling water as the braking and cooling medium, so the necessary oil/water heat exchanger can be omitted. The result: with long service intervals of up to 120,000 kilometres, the Travego simply keeps on driving.

We also support you with a range of offers relating to your vehicle. Mercedes-Benz Financial Services offer suitable and attractive insurance and financing solutions. On request, we will ensure you a residual value at BusStore and also offer an EU-wide, 12-month guarantee on the powertrain. The OMNIplus EcoTraining in combination with FleetBoard trip analysis can reduce fuel costs by about 10 per cent. The environment, as well as your balance sheets, will be most grateful.

What drives us forward. And its engine speeds.

We have worked hard to reduce the fuel consumption and the emissions of your flagship. What we have not reduced is engine performance, dynamic response and ride comfort. The current generation of engines is characterised by efficient, clean fuel combustion. It is based on the flexible common rail system with full electronic control. The use of X-Pulse permits the achievement of an exceptionally high maximum injection pressure and precise control of the entire injection sequence. The results are a smooth increase in pressure, low fuel consumption and minimal particulate emissions. The engines have been enhanced further with new software, data records and an exhaust control unit in the Fuel Efficiency package.

The Mercedes-Benz OM 470 in-line six-cylinder engine with 10.7 litres displacement produces 315 kW (428 bhp) and 2100 Nm torque at 1100 rpm. As a 3-axle vehicle, the coach is alter-natively available with the more powerful BlueEfficiency Power OM 471 engine with 350 kW (476 bhp). The engine generation with BlueTec® 6 is impressive not only because of its high environmental compatibility, but also because of its high economy. For, in spite of the increase in requirements due to Euro VI, we have succeeded in keeping the fuel consumption as low as usual – partly through the unique X-Pulse injection system. Thanks to the new Fuel Effi-ciency package, the consumption of the OM 471 in conjunction with the Mercedes-Benz GO 250-8 PowerShift was reduced by a further 4 per cent. Another top-class feature beside the low emissions due to the combination of SCR technology, on-demand exhaust gas recirculation and particulate filter, is the high dynamic response of the engines thanks to the turbocharger technology.

In addition to maximum efficiency, BlueEfficiency Power also stands for maximum engine performance and excellent handling dynamics. For the powerful six cylinder in-line engines already develop their high power below 1,800 rpm. This optimisation in the engine speed range reduces consumption and noise level, and ensures quiet running – even when accel-erating and at higher road speeds.

The brain of the engine is the MCM (Motor Control Module) control unit. On the one hand, it transfers the output demand of the driver via the accelerator pedal position and, on the other, controls and monitors all engine functions from the start and the rate of injection through to actuation of the sophisticated, dynamic, three-stage advanced engine brake. This arrangement therefore enables the achievement of very fast and smooth gear changes, and the engine always runs within its optimum range.

The fully automated Mercedes-Benz GO 250-8 PowerShift transmission with convenient control using the pitman arm ensures both driving comfort and safety. The driver need only set the direction of travel or, in manual mode, the right gear – and the transmission control system does the rest. And best of all: the innovative transmission also helps to save on expensive fuel.

Buses and coaches are considered to be one of the safest forms of transport in the world. The innovations of Mercedes-Benz have played a decisive part in this. The Travego proves that it is possible to make an outstanding safety concept even better.

As a leading manufacturer, Mercedes-Benz Buses and Coaches bears a special responsibility for the safety of passengers, drivers and road users. As a consequence, Mercedes-Benz has continually pioneered work in the advanced development of bus safety since the invention of the bus by Carl Benz. Many of the innovations that have long been regarded as a stan-dard feature today were launched in a vehicle bearing the Star. With the integral safety con-cept in the Travego, Mercedes-Benz is taking another decisive step closer to the vision of accident-free driving.

The integral safety concept from Mercedes-Benz covers all phases of automotive safety to systematically meet this striving for safety: from driver safety and the mastering of critical situations through to accident protection and measures to protect the passengers in the event of an accident.

Apart from active safety using electronic aids, passive safety in the Travego also contributes to the comprehensive protection in the vehicle. The bodyshell of electrically welded, long- life square tubes consists of encircling ribs and diagonal bracing. These elements give the framework a high transverse and torsional stiffness and ensure a structural strength com-pliant with the ECE-R66.02 standard.

The body itself provides excellent protection for all the passengers. The Front Collision Guard (SCG) ensures that forces which occur in the event of a head-on collision are optimally absorbed. In order to increase the distance from the danger zone and so further minimise the risk of injury, the driver’s area would be displaced rearward in a collision by a few precious centimetres.

A Star for the road. Five stars in terms of safety.

The end of a traffic jam suddenly looms into view, or a vehicle travelling ahead brakes hard unexpectedly – moments of shock for every bus driver. Many of these dangerous situations can be defused, thanks to the innovative electronic safety and assistance systems in the Travego.

The first two generations of the Active Brake Assist system (ABA and ABA 2) already con-tributed successfully to the prevention of accidents and, with ABA 3, Mercedes-Benz is once again setting new standards in road safety. ABA defused the danger of a collision with vehicles moving slowly in front in the event of emergency braking. ABA 2 exceeded this capa-bility by also identifying stationary obstacles and reacting through partial braking. ABA 3 can do even more, as the innovative emergency braking system can also initiate hard emer-gency braking automatically in the case of stationary obstructions. The threat of a collision can therefore be prevented with greater certainty, or the collision speed with the obstacle reduced considerably. ABA 3 defuses the danger of collision, thus surpassing current legal requirements set by the European Parliament. ABA 3 is available in conjunction with the adap-tive cruise control upon request.

As safety is an absolute priority at Mercedes-Benz, the Travego is equipped with the ad-vanced emergency braking system (AEBS) as a standard feature. In common with ABA 3, the advanced emergency braking system also initiates emergency braking in the event of a stationary obstacle. It defuses the danger of collision, thus reliably meeting the European regu-lations for automatic emergency braking which have been applicable since the end of 2015.

Adaptive cruise control (ACC) is a prerequisite for ABA 3, relieving the stress on drivers using trunk roads and motorways. Where ACC detects a vehicle travelling slowly in front, it brakes the bus slowly until a distance preselected by the driver is achieved. ACC then rigorously maintains this distance. A radar sensor continuously scans the traffic lanes in front of the bus for this purpose. It measures the distance from and relative speed of vehicles travelling in front and registers any obstacles. Where no vehicle is travelling in front, it func-tions as a cruise control and deactivates automatically at a speed under 15 km/h. With the additional Stop & Go function (ACC with a stopping assistant), the ACC also remains active at low speed in congested traffic and moves from a stationary position to the set speed again following short stops of up to 2 seconds. Whereas ACC operates in a speed range of 15–100 km/h, this additional function increases the range to 0–100 km/h.

Mercedes-Benz does everything to ensure that your coach reaches its destination safely. Automatic tyre pressure monitoring (TPM) warns of deviations from the target air pressure. This reduces tyre wear and can prevent tyre damage. And, of no less importance, this can have a positive effect on fuel consumption and emissions and improve driving characteristics. All the other safety systems in the Travego have long since become a matter of course: the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Acceleration Slip Regulation (ASR), Electronic Stability Program (ESP®), Brake Assist System (BAS), Lane Departure Warning System (LDW) and Continuous Braking Limiter (DBL).

The excellent feeling of driving a Mercedes-Benz.

ACC

The Adaptive Cruise Control detects when the safety distance is too small and auto-matically brakes the bus. The core of the ACC is the proximity control radar located in the centre of the vehicle. This constantly switches back and forth between three radar beams.

ESP®

An unanticipated obstacle on the road: thanks to the Electronic Stability Program (ESP), the evasive manoeuvre is success-ful without the bus swerving.

SPA

The Lane Assist (SPA) continuously monitors the distance of the bus from the lane markings on the road. As soon as the vehicle crosses any of the markings, the driver is alerted by a pulsation in the seat on the relevant side.

AEBS

When danger threatens, the Advanced Emer-gency Braking System (AEBS) performs independently full or partial braking, within a cascade of warnings, to avoid a rear-end collision or reduce accident damage.

The future at a glance.

The Travego can be steered safely and comfortably through traffic, thanks to features such as first-class brake and lighting systems which your driver can rely on completely.

In driving situations at excessive speeds, the driver can briefly lose control. The innova-tive decompression brake integrated in the engine control supports fast reaction by the driver. It responds in less than 150 milliseconds to the pressure of the brake pedal. It is relieved by the integrated secondary water retarder. It takes care of up to 90 per cent of all vehicle braking. That is good for the system and the environment, because brake dust is drastically reduced. And, quite incidentally, it also spares the driver’s nerves, as the new brake technology makes frequent gear changing unnecessary, and both continuous and consistent braking power makes even driving on inclines and serpentine roads a pleasure. And thanks to its long service intervals, the system also puts the brakes on your maintenance costs.

The lighting system of the Travego has always been an eye-catcher, and being visible at an early stage means additional safety. Powerful halogen headlamps are included as standard equipment. Xenon headlamps, which illuminate the road even better, are available as special equipment. The integrated LED daytime driving light makes it easier for other road users to see your coach – and so increases road safety.

The steering-dependent headlamps in the Travego are another important assistance system promoting safe driving. When turning, the light of the Travego follows the curve, while the relevant inside fog lamp at each corner also lights up the roadway so that a wider area of road is illuminated. This makes driving at night even safer. What is more, the fog lamps can be set so that they remain lit for 30 seconds after locking up the vehicle. The rain-light sensor ensures additional safety. It activates the headlamps and windscreen wiper system automatically as soon as external conditions make this necessary.

First class in all the seats.

Anybody boarding the Travego knows that every seat is like a front row seat. Because the flagship coach features an extremely attractive and comfortable passenger com-partment.

The modern design of the TSX travel seating guarantees a sense of well-being and per-ceptibly more comfort. The side panel and support arm are made of high-grade alumin-ium. The new elegant armrest is large and ergonomically shaped. The mechanism for adjusting the seats and folding back the ergonomically sculpted backrest is intuitive to operate and could not be simpler. In the zero position, a more upright backrest angle makes it easier for passengers to stand up. The seat buckles are arranged on the aisle side. They facilitate quick release for added safety. Generous seat upholstery guaran-tees first-class seat comfort. This is further supplemented by the Comfort headrests. They can be continuously extended upwards by up to 85 mm and can therefore be perfectly adapted to an individual passenger’s size.

The high-quality upholstery offers you a host of combinations and individual configura-tions. Thanks to the modular system, the choice is almost limitless. Incidentally, the seat frame is based on a light, aluminium double tubular design in all variants. The use of lightweight material has made it possible to reduce the weight of the double seats considerably: by an average of 70 kilograms per bus. The new footrests provide for relax-ation thanks to a particularly large and comfortable rest surface.

Stay connected: the best connection is not always a road. In today’s coach market it is important to match the economic interests of the operator with the desire of passengers to have access to the Internet. That is already possible now. With the aid of the FleetBoard device, bus and coach customers have their buses in view at all times anywhere in the world. Intelligent services – developed specially for the bus segment – support our customers in their fleet management. In the final analysis this gives them the benefit of lower fuel consumption and higher vehicle reliability. With the aid of the integrated FleetBoard device, if an unplanned stop or any defects occur – event data and the exact GPS position of the vehicle can be sent by the driver at the press of a button directly to the 24h SERVICE hotline, so that selected measures can be prepared for use at the appropriate service point. It is therefore possible to have a better qualified and quicker repair of the bus on site, with the aim of cutting down on time-consuming repairs in the workshop. As a result the buses are on the road again more quickly. In addition, using the DispoPilot.guide telematic system of FleetBoard from a mobile tablet, an economic driving style for saving fuel and the best route can be determined. Drivers and operating companies can also transfer order data and messages.

Secure a competitive advantage through connectivity by offering travellers anywhere and at any time a professional infotainment service: with the optional, on-board Coach Media Router, together with an Internet provider, you can turn your coach into a mobile hotspot. Through wireless data transfer over a WLAN, passengers can send and receive emails, surf the Internet, enjoy music and films, as well as use their smartphones, tablets or laptops while travelling.

Everything within reach.

The cockpit of the Travego sets the standards as regards ease of operation and com-fort. The high-quality instrument panel boasts an attractive design. The colour central display clearly shows the most important information at a glance. It quickly gives the driver information on road speed, engine speed and both fuel and AdBlue levels.

It is operated with a practical keypad on the multifunction steering wheel. The intuitive menu also enables the driver to set the cruise control, take telephone calls and operate the radio system with an optional Bluetooth hands-free set and USB connection for MP3 players. The battery-free electronic key with immobiliser similar to that provided in a car meets the latest security standard. The ignition and engine are controlled by means of a two-stage start/stop button.

Since 2014, the Travego has been the first coach with anticipatory cruise control. The Predictive Powertrain Control (PPC) accesses topographic data and compares this with the GPS data of the Travego. It detects the elevation profile of the route ahead and the current position of the vehicle. On the basis of this data, the speed, the engine performance and torque data and the transmission, the PPC regulates the speed and automatically shifts into the optimal gear. Employing this tactic, PPC drives as circum-spectly as an excellent coach driver and reduces fuel consumption by up to four per cent.

First-class ride quality.

Ride quality has a high priority in the Travego. Its high-quality chassis provides an excellent basis for a pleasant journey and the discerning demands of the passengers. The road holding of the Travego is first class. It is particularly agile, as the front axle with independent wheel suspension facilitates large steering angles. The robust and long-life Mercedes-Benz rear axle is the ideal complement. It provides highly efficient drive power on the road, with pleasantly smooth and quiet running for excellent ride comfort.

The actively steered trailing axle on the M and L variants integrates harmoniously into this impressive ensemble. It is extremely comfortable, thanks to independent wheel suspension. As a hydraulically steered active trailing axle, it makes manoeuvring easier for the driver and the large Travego variants unusually agile. It remains active when travelling straight ahead, contributing to high driving stability.

As a genuinely first-class coach, the Travego is perfectly sprung in every situation: shock absorbers and air suspension always ensure ideal smooth running regardless of the load condition and the nature of the road surface
