Presents The 89th Saturday Reunion October 17, 2015 9:00am-3:00pm For one Saturday in both the spring and the fall, the TCRWP always opens its doors to thousands of educators from all over the country. Each Saturday Reunion offers keynotes and closings by renowned authors and leaders in the field of education, senior Project staff, including Lucy Calkins and all TCRWP staff developers. On this day, over 125 workshops are presented on topics such as: argument writing, writing about reading, reading interpretively and analytically, embedding historical fiction in nonfiction text sets, opinion writing for very young writers, managing workshop instruction, aligning instruction to the CCSS, using performance assessments and learning progressions to ratchet up the level of teaching, state-of-the-art test prep, phonics, guided reading and more. The Teachers College Reading and Writing Project Major Speakers Include: Mo Willems, a former Emmy-award writer and animator on Sesame Street, is the author of the widely beloved Elephant and Piggie books, Knuffle Bunny books, the Cat the Cat series, and, of course, the wildly popular Pigeon series, including Don’t Let Pigeon Drive the Bus! in addition to numerous other adored books. He has won Caldecott Honors, Geisel Medals, and Geisel Honors, and his books are perennial New York Times best sellers. Lucy Calkins, Founding Director of the TCRWP , is the author or co-author of two score of books including the newly released Units of Study for Teaching Reading (Grades K-5), Units of Study in Argument/Opinion, Information, and Narrative Writing (Grades K-8), written with the TCRWP community, and Pathways to the Common Core, one of the top ten New York Times best-selling educational books. Lucy is the Richard Robinson Professor of Children's Literature at Teachers College where she co-directs the Literacy Specialist Program. Kathy Collins, a former TCRWP staff member and frequent keynote speaker, is the author of Growing Readers, Reading for Real, and I Am Reading: Nurture Children's Meaning- Making and Engagement With Any Book. Kathy has been a primary level teacher, a coach, and an adjunct instructor. Mary Ehrenworth, Deputy Director of the TCRWP , is co-author of The Power of Grammar, Pathways to the Common Core, and several titles in Units of Study in Argument, Information, and Narrative Writing as well as titles in the fourth and fifth grade Reading Units of Study series. Amanda Hartman, Deputy Director of Primary Literacy at the TCRWP , is co-author of One-to-One and of multiple titles in both the reading and writing Units of Study series, including Lessons from the Masters, Grade 2 and Learning About the World: Reading Nonfic- tion, Grade 1. Laurie Pessah, Senior Deputy Director of the TCRWP , is co-author of A Principal’s Guide to Leadership in the Teaching of Writing and of How-To-Books: Writing to Teach Others, Kindergarten. As a former principal and director of literacy, Laurie is deeply involved in working with school leaders. Kathleen Tolan, Senior Deputy Director of the TCRWP , is co-author of multiple titles in both the upper grade reading and writing Units of Study series, as well as of The Literary Essay: From Character to Compare/Contrast, Grade 6, in the middle school writing Units of Study series.
