Major Start Times

• 9:00, 11:00, 1:00, and 2:00 are major start times for classes, with each having 11% or more of daytime classes.• Classes at 9:00, 11:00, 1:00, and 2:00

represent 87% of daytime classes.

Summer 2013 Analysis of Overlapping Classes

• The vast majority of classes run past the next start time (98%), but the larger concern is running past the next major start time.

• Classes that start at 8:00 and 9:00 (32% of daytime classes) have potential conflicts because of overlapping times.

97% of 8:00 classes run past the 9:00 start time.

1. Current summer semester standard times limit students ability to take multiple classes because classes overlap and students can be blocked from registering for multiple classes.

2. Data from Institutional Research and Information showed that of the 2316 students who took two or more classes last summer, only 271 (12%) took two classes with

the same start time.

3. It would be easier for students to build a schedule with multiple classes if classes didn’t overlap.

4. The student omnibus survey suggests that students are looking for a middle ground in terms of number of class meetings and class length. The student preference

appears to be 3 or 4 meetings per week for classes that are a moderate length. Students weren’t in favor of meeting five days a week for a short duration or being in long classes 2 days a week.

Data Analysis

• Current scheduling allows:3-contact hour classes

• 2x a week for 165 minutes (2:45 minutes)• 3x a week for 110 minutes (1:50 minutes)• 4x a week for 85 minutes (1:25 minutes)• 5x a week for 65 minutes (1:05 minutes)

4-Contact Hour Classes• 2x a week for 215 minutes (3:35 minutes)• 3x a week for 145 minutes (2:25 minutes)• 4x a week for 110 minutes (1:50 minutes)• 5x a week for 90 minutes (1:30 minutes)
