I witnessed no aggressive or poor temperamentstoday which in my opinion a very foreign to thispack terrier. I witnessed no apple heads again which, where some might find them attractive are, by definition incorrect to the standard. Hardly anymouth imperfections from last time I judged thebreed. Overall presentation was good.

VD (0)

PD (3) 1 Britten’s Krisma Dark N’Stormy, richb&t dog of great breed type. Great for size and overall shape. Loved his head, good neck and shoulderwith straight front. Correct bone, well sprungribs. Good on the move showing overall balance.Like him a lot. Presented, moved and showed well, BP;2 Gee’s Watercroft Chilli Pepper, red dog of similarsize and type, lovely head and eye with correct bite.Straight level topline, shows great drive from behindbut not quite the reach in front as 1st place, hence 2nd

today. Well presented and handled; 3 Atkinson’sAlfie Boy at Manybrook, b&t longer and rangierin type than 1&2. He has a great coat in texture butis longer on the leg, bite OK.

JD (2) 1 Newton’s Strathinver Sea The Stars, reddog 15 months old, excellent breed type, put togetherin a great make and shape. Liked his head, eye andbite although could have a tad more strength. Correctbite. Short backed with a level topline, great on themove, showing balance with type both in front, rearand side gait. Coat texture ok although am sure willharshen up each strip with age, RCC; 2 Hamar’sGordon’s Boy, rangier in type than 1. Correct biteand harsh coated but a little too proud of histail! Could be a little shorter in back.

PGD (6-1) 1 Gee’s Watercroft Coin A Phrase, b&t20 months old. Correct overall size and shape andgood type. Handsome head with correct eye shapeand good bite. Good use of ears and earplacement. Great coat colour and texture. FrontOK. Short in back, correct tail set and carriage.

Good on the move but not quite the reach in front; 2 Gee’s Watercroft Hot News, b&t of greattype. Liked his head and expression. Correct coatand good bone. Front assembly not as good as 1 butvery good for type so could forgive this; 3 Lloyd’sOrison Custom Cut, rangier in type than 1&2 butan honest dog, not glamorous but functional. No furnishings but well boned. Head of correct proportions with good bite, moved well once settled;R Hilditch’s Watercroft Royal Mail; VHC Brown’sDajean Dotty’s Digger.

LD (3-1) 1 Jenkins’ Kinsridge Back Chat, this dogfilled my eye standing and did not disappoint on themove. Excellent breed type, strong head but not overrounded, just the slight rounding the standard required. Correct eye shape although could be a shadedarker. Correct bite with a strong jaw. Presentation isexcellent of his deep red hard wiry coat. Balancedangulation both in front and behind, short back withlevel topline. Comes alive on the move and delighted to award him the DCC, his third I understand. A credit to the breed and his breeder!; 2 Mounfield’s Arderry Son Of A Gun, slightlylonger cast than 1st, lovely head andexpression. Great bite with strong jaw. Good neckand shoulder but front could be straighter. Wouldprefer a straighter tail. A very good quality Norfolkmale overall, presented, moved and showed well.

OD (4) 1 Gee’s Ch Watercroft In A Pickle, red dogof correct size, head shape and bite correct, a littleheavy in ear. Good overall type. Neck and shoulderOK, front straight but not quite the reach on themove. Enough bone, positive drive on the movefrom behind. Presented well; 2 Ackling & New’sRuby Ruben ShCM, quality Norfolk, OK for sizebut good type and balanced correct head proportion, ear shape and size. Harsh coated honest dog well offfor bone, could be a little sounder both fore and aftbut overall shows grand breed type in a balancedstructure; 3 Smith’s Javidel May Just Have Too,not the strength in head of 1&2, slightly longer cast

that 1&2. More angulation behind than in frontwhich shows a lack of balance on the move, heshows himself well and presented in great form; R Lloyd’s Orison Midnight Myth.

GCD (1) 1 Brown’s Dajean Dotty’s Digger, enjoy-ing his day out at Crufts with his owners today. Nicehead and expression. OK for bone. Could be shorterin back. Moved and showed OK.

VB (1-1)

PB (2) 1 Gee’s Watercroft Saffron, very prettyfeminine 10-11 month old, liked her overall size &shape. Short backed with a level topline. Correcthead & eye with a lovely expression. Good bone, moved & showed well with great presentation. Another consistent winner from this kennel; 2 Corfield’s Langdenfarm Ruby Tuesday, notquite the quality of 1, pretty head not co-operatingwith her handler today but should be proud as didher best. Enough bone and coat.

JB (3) 1 Dixon & Davies’ Perrisblu Priscilla, redbitch with correct head eye and bite. Dark eye, neckOK. Short backed with level topline. Great on themove showing great balance. Great coat and condition.Presented & handled very well; 2 Devereaux’sVichea Heavens Above, coat OK have seen hermuch better presented. Very feminine head, goodbone, dark eye with correct ears. Straight tail, cometogether once settled on the move; 3 Gee’s Water-croft Pop Picker, good headed bitch short tightjacket which needs time to fill. Good neck & shoul-ders but longer cast than 1&2, does need more body.PGB (9-3) 1 Saltmarsh’s Pipridges Holly, red bitch, bigger in frame than bone but still typy. Strong headwith good strength and jaw, correct bite. Short backwith a level topline. Could move with more enthusiasmbut very balanced on the move. A good honest Norfolk,2 Devereux’s Vichea Cash And Carry, red bitch ofgreat type, short back with a level topline. Greathead, eye & bite. Far too much enthusiasm forowner to control. Got glimpses of correct move-ment, could have been better presented today; 3 Lloyd’s Orison Calm Attitude, b&t, nice headwith correct bite, strong jaw, not the overall type of1&2. Good bone, short back and level topline. Couldbe a little stronger behind giving more drive; R Batey & Gee’s Watercroft Confetti; VHC Simpson’s Megalex Well I Never.

LB (7-1) 1 Devereux’s Vichea Little Gem, decep-

tively correct Norfolk bitch of good size, overallmake and shape. Red wheaten in colour, lovely headand expression, good bite. Correct neck, short backwith a level topline, great reach and drive on themove once settled. Well sprung ribs with correctbody. Proud to award her the RCC; 2 Britten’sKrisma Nip In The Air, when I first witnessed thisgirl walk into the ring I thought she would be mywinner. When going over her she is a little leggierin appearance and not the depth in rib as 1st. Nar-rower in her overall frame as needs to drop, in pro-file paints a lovely picture. Could have a little morelayback in shoulder, not as sound as 1st. Rich red incolour, presented and handled well; 3 Darnell’sJacquidon Next Sensation, b&t, a little bigger than1&2. Strong head with good bite and strong jaw, enough bone but very fond of her food! Losing a littleweight would help her exhibit more positive move-ment; R Philip’s Nordalset Sunny Skies; VHCCooper’s Settrenda Sweet N Tiddly.

OB (3) a trio of well deserved champion girls. 1 Jenkins’ Ch Kinsridge Top Tip, 2½ yr old bitchof amazing breed type coupled with balance andsoundness. Short back with level topline, equal angles bothin front and in the rear, which has well let downhocks, great on the move, presented and handled inexcellent order, BCC. Proud to award the kennelboth CCs and to witness my BOB bitch to win Terrier Group 4; 2 Gee’s Ch Watercroft Top Tia,similar in overall type to 1st, not quite as sound as 1in front or rear but a great type of Norfolk. Correcthead with dark eye and good bite, enough strengthin jaw, a worthy Champion presented and handledwell; 3 Smith’s Ch Javidel Definitely Maybe, b&tnot putting 100% in today, great overall body goodhead and expression, longer cast than 1&2 but notlong by any means. 1&2 are ultra short. A deservedChampion, presented well.GCB (1) 1 Owen’s Brickin Happy Dance, head on,great bone, coat coming through. Enjoying herday. On her own in this class, well done to the own-ers for qualifying. To my stewards Kim Lathaen & Dave Franks. A fewthank you’s. First of all to the Crufts committee forthinking highly enough of me to judge my first love, the Norfolk, at Crufts but at the tender age of 39!An achievement to judge but nonetheless at thisyoung age I have been allowed to experience theevent at the centenary show. To both mum and dad,

although mum no longer with us, without whom fromthe age of 11 their unconditional support to drive meto any dog event, ringcraft, open or championshipshow I wanted to attend my passion for dogs wouldnot have been so fulfilled. Thank you’s could never becompleted without gratitude to my mentor MartinPhillips who spent and gave so much time in my earlyyears until now to impart any knowledge he could.

We all have the breed at heart as breeders and exhibitors and can disagree as long as we all rememberwe are only custodians of the wonderful breed theNorfolk and to share humility, sportsmanship at allevents, and work together for the good of this breedand dogs in general, we should all remember. I was sopleased with the overall depth in quality although nota huge entry in number.

My grateful thanks to the Norfolk Terrier Club ofGreat Britain for inviting me to officiate at theirSpring Open Show. This well run Club put on asuper show and the officers and committee are to becongratulated for their efforts. I was thrilled with theentry of 63 dogs and in addition to being numericallystrong, the entry was full of quality which bodeswell for the breed. Puppies were out in abundanceand these classes were particularly exciting to judgewith several promising youngsters present on theday. Applause for all class winners was good to hear, and I’m sure greatly appreciated by the winnersthemselves.

MPD (2-1) 1 Thompson-Morgan’s Belleville Callof Duty, this b&t youngster is such an excitingprospect. At his first show and a tad reluctant on themove but he gradually improved as his time in thering went on. He appealed for type and presented asuper outline with moderate length of neck, leveltopline, rib developing nicely, short loin and goodtail for both set and carriage. Correctly proportionedhead with nice width between the ears, dark expressiveeye and good dentition. Jacket of excellent textureand very well presented. When he got going hemoved true with excellent side gait and carriage.Given a little more time he should do great things.

PD (4) Very nice class, the first three greatly appealed and should all have promising futuresahead. 1 Gee’s Watercroft Chilli Pepper, 12 mthwho was the most mature in the class but also fullof quality. He excels for type and is a beautifully balanced boy with neck of moderate length, firmlevel topline, excellent rib, short loin and good tailset. OD (3-1) 1 Jenkins’ Ch Kinsridge Back Chat, niceto go over & he has wonderful balance of height tolength, presenting a lovely picture standing whichhe keeps on the move. Eyes could be a shade darker& I disliked his tail, nearly flat to his back, but overallhe is a beautiful Norfolk for type & deportment, CC;2 Atkinson’s Blakens I Look To You, beautifullymuscled & very fit, his tail carriage was impressive

I was very pleased with this good entry, with gooddepth of quality in all but one class. I found the usualNorfolk virtues, ie happy attitude & good drivinghindquarters, in the majority. The recurrent fault ofsteep shoulder placement & short upper arm givingrestricted wide front movement was evident in quitea few. But mouths were good – I found only one totally incorrect bite, though a couple were a bittight, & most were fairly clean!

VD (0)

PD (3) First two both very attractive & promising. 1 Horne’s Marchdens Mark My Words, verysmart pup of good breed type, preferred his morecorrect size & longer ribcage. Excellent head of correctproportions & shape, good shoulders, front & bone.Short level back, excellent hindquarter construction, good stifle angulation & low hocks giving gooddrive. Movement sound & true. Presented in excellentcoat. 2 Philip’s Nordalset Made To Boogie, lovelypup but a size larger. Excellent head, good stop, strong muzzle & perfect bite. Well boned front legs, shoulders quite well laid back. A shade long in back, but not in ribs. Good hindquarters, quite well angulated & balanced mover. Good coat; 3 Woolnough’s Northwool Rusty At Romance, nice type in good coat but not as soundly constructedas winners. Lacks drive when moving though quiteneat, straight & true when viewed front & rear.Youngest of the trio, lots of time needed.

JD (1) 1 Thompson-Morgan’s Belleville Call OfDuty, super black & tan, but so obstinate! Perfecthead nicely curved skull, broad & strong enough forage (13mths), muzzle of correct length & good stop.Excellent teeth & bite. Well boned straight front legs& shoulders quite well laid back, with correct lengthneck for balance. Short level back, well ribbed body.Strong hindquarters, well bent muscled stifles, lowset hocks, moving with drive, sound & true. Beautifullypresented & smart. With maturity & more

cooperativeness definitely CC quality! .

PGD (0)

LD (3) Very very close between first two.1 Gee’s Watercroft Chilli Pepper, smart red, excellent coat & presentation, sound body with levelback & good length ribcage. Beautiful head, broadskull, good stop, strong muzzle, perfect teeth, verytypical alert, appealing expression. Correct lengthneck flowing into very well lad back shoulders, straight front legs, good bone. Excellent, stronghindquarters, moving with good drive from wellbent stifles & low hocks. Strides out very well infront, which won him the class, a pleasure to watchmoving once he settled! RCC; 2 Britten’s Krisma Dark N’Stormy, most attractive black &tan, smaller, more compact ideal size, with goodbone & substance. Very typical head of correct make& shape, most attractive expression. Not quite asgood in neck & shoulder, but moves smartly &freely but not as much reach & drive as 1. Shortback, good ribs, level topline & good hindquarters.Super coat & condition; 3 Wilson’s PullemtugemTumbillentern, attractive, alert & typical, but out ofcoat & not as soundly constructed as winners, thusdidn’t move as well or keep a level topline.

OD (4) Four good quality dogs.1 Newton’s Strathinver Sea The Stars, easy winner, super sound, handsome, excellent breed type& attitude! Head very similar to limit winner, broadcurved skull, deep stop, short strong muzzle, goodbig teeth, correct scissor bite. Sparkling alert darkeyes, very appealing expression. Excellent neck, shoulders very well laid back – the best today – perfectly straight front legs, excellent bone. Strongbody, short level back, good length ribcage. Moveswith good stride & drives strongly from well-shapedhindquarters. First class jacket completed picture ofstar quality dog, champion today! Pleased to award3rd CC, though was pushed hard by limit winner. But

51

I’m afraid the bitch ‘demanded’ BOB! CC; 2 Jenkins’ Ch Kinsridge Back Chat, smaller type, short & cobby that I prefer but not as soundly constructed in forequarters as 1, thus less stride, though very neat tidy mover viewed front & rear.Very typical attractive head of excellent shape &proportions, fitting the breed standard, but I preferred winner’s oval darker eyes. Hindquarterswell angulated & low set hocks moving in parallel.Won his place on type & balance; 3 Atkinson’s Ch Blakens I Look To You, handsome b&t of similar type to 1 but none of them could match thewinner on shoulder placement, all 3 lacking correctlayback. Lovely head & expression from dark eyes,& has good bite. Very well angulated hindlegs withgood drive but overall movement less balanced &coordinated. Good quality coat presented well; R Hurrion & Miller’s Am Ch Max-well’s UnionJack at Villassa.

GCD (0)

VB (2-1) 1 Hurrion’s Ch Valentine Cherry Crumble, what a show girl, certainly knows she’s a champion& really pushed top winners hard, giving way tokennel mate for RCC! Fits standard to a ‘T’, moves& shows with style & flare from well-constructedfront & rear. Gorgeous head & expression, good bite& clean teeth. Just not quite in as good a coat as CCwinner, but I do love her! BV.

PB (9-1) Busy class of happy puppies, one or two alittle unsure, the first three stood out for me, allneeds lots of time!1 Phillips’ Jaeva Kiss This, one of the youngest butI picked her out as she came in the ring, a littlebeauty of great promise, presented prettily in fullpuppy oat. Excellent head, eyes & teeth. Quite goodin neck & shoulders, better than the rest. Good front& bone, short level back, good length ribs with correctdepth for age. Very well angulated hindquartersmoving with drive & was showing very well mostof the time but a bit unsettled at end of class. She’dfully recovered for best puppy competition whichshe won as I’d fallen for her, but the dog pup wasequally worthy. BP; 2 Gee’s Watercroft DiamonsN’Pearls, very attractive, showy, slightly older pupin excellent coat & condition. Not quite as short inback but good length ribs & excellent hindquarters, moving sound & free with good drive & leveltopline. Could have bit better shoulders, but straightwell boned front legs striding out well. Happy,

confident & eye catching; 3 Darnell’s Jacquidon NoHesitation, very nice type, which this kennel seemsto have, moved & showed very well in good coat. Not quite as free behind as above & less bone. Butmost promising, with typical head & expression &good teeth; R Macartney’s Ivrig First Bit Of Joy;VHC Gardener’s Northwool Jenni And Romanceat Danalas.

JB (4) 1 & 2 very close decision.1 Thompson-Morgan’s Belleville Ovation, verysmart, sound youngster, typical head, skull & muzzlein good shape & proportions, bright alert expressionfrom dark eyes; good teeth. Good shoulders withenough layback, correct length neck, straight frontlegs, but not as much bone as 2nd. Short level back, body maturing well has good length ribcage. Strongwell angulated hindquarters, driving action from lowhocks, moves freely & tidily which won her 1st.Quality with promise; 2 Stevenson’s Brickin MadeFor You, beautiful bitch who really appealed to mebut let herself down moving, performing twirls asshe went & throwing her legs about making properassessment difficult! Lovely head, broad curvedskull, good stop, shortish strong muzzle with correctbite. Shoulder placement & front good, well boned& good cobby body, long deep ribcage. Superhindquarters which powered her along in every way!I hope she settles down a bit as she is full of quality.Coat just going over; 3 Green’s Wharfvalley Persuasion, very attractive & full of promise, stillrather immature. Finer build than above & headneeds to broaden though it has good length proportions& stop. Like many of the entry could be better inshoulders but has good well shaped hindquarters, sonot quite as balanced moving as 1st though toplineis level. Good texture coat just coming through; R Phillips’ Moortop Pay’N Go NAF TAF.

PGB (5-3) 1 Cooper’s Settrenda So Saucy, pleasing to go over, found sound construction, everything in correct proportions. Attractive typicalhead, bright dark eyes, good bite. Straight front, shoulders laid back ok, & quite good neck. Goodtexture coat, looking smart, compact body with goodribs. Strong well angulated hindquarters giving goodsound movement; 2 Gardener’s Perrisblu Libertyat Danalas ShCM, very well trained & handled, moving smartly & soundly up & down but does lackstride & drive due to lack of enough angulation front& rear. Quite nice head, alert expression from gooddark eyes, & has good teeth. Correct texture bodycoat.

Nicely laid back shoulders, straight wellboned front legs, short level back, well ribbed cobbybody, excellent hindquarters. One of my top 3 bitchesmaking decisions very close; 2 Stevenson’s Brickin Simplicity, equally good quality b&t but her erratic movement let her down.Very similar correct head with typical breed expressionfrom mischievous dark eyes, good teeth. Good bone& substance, short back & deep long ribs. Not quitesuch good angulation of shoulders or hindquarters butnicely balanced overall & very appealing. Coat justgoing but texture good; 3 Darnell’s Jacquidon NextSensation, very attractive typical b&t with good head& alert expression from nice dark eyes, correct bite.Quite soundly made throughout though not so good inshoulders than both above & moved a bit wider attimes, but good well angulated hindquarters & drivingrear action. Coat just coming through. Has a lot to likeabout her.

OB (6-2) Another trio of lovely Norfolks.1 Jenkins’ Ch Kinsridge Top Tip, has the attitude ofa total star, she demanded attention & the top awards!I was quite taken aback by how much she charmed meas she is rather different type to my usual taste, but shehas a certain charisma that you cannot ignore! Idealsize, ultra short back & cobby body, well sprung goodlength ribcage. Super head of correct proportions &cheeky expression, though I must admit I would prefera smaller, darker eye but this is a minor imperfectionamongst her many merits. Good structure fore &hindquarters giving free striding gait from short legs.Harsh texture coat presented perfectly, stylish show-girl. CC & BOB. Congratulations on equalling breedrecord & subsequently attaining it; 2 Hurrion’s Villassa Cherry Tart, loved this one who appealed tome being her mother’s (VB winner) daughter! It is always a pleasure to judge Norfolks, a breed Ihave been associated with for many years. The daystarted wet & Norfolks hate getting wet so we hadto manage in the indoor ring, some didn’t mind toomuch, some hated it. But it did clear later and wereable to go outside. There was a great atmospherearound the ring & lots of laughter too, & applausefor all the winners much appreciated. It was a shamethat the behavior of one exhibitor nearly spoiled theday but thankfully the rest of the breed are more thanpleasant & accepted my placings gratefully.
