AUSTRALIAN INTERSCHOOLS SNOWSPORTS

CHAMPIONSHIPS

Reaching the pinnacle of competing at an Australian

championship is an outstanding achievement for any

athlete.

Three of our students recently reached this level and

displayed their talents on the snow in five events at

Mt. Buller in the Australian Interschools Snowsports

Championships.

Congratulations to Sonia L, Lilly B and William H on

their efforts on the slopes.

It has been a successful year at the various levels of

the Snowsport Championships for all NNPS

competitors.

With growing interest, new members are always

welcome to join in the fun. 2020 could be the year!

Thank you to the parents for their support throughout

the championships.

END OF TERM

To let the community know, I will be on leave for

Bee Well… SUSTAINABILITY UPDATE

NNPS has embraced the new bin

system near the canteen and students are taking

the time to stop and think about where their waste

and recycling is going. The coloured bins allow

students to separate their compost, soft plastics,

mixed recycling, paper and landfill waste. It has

drastically reduced our landfill waste and the school

is looking considerably tidier! A big thanks to 4T, who

were the first team to help monitor the new bins and

direct students into putting their rubbish in the right

bin. They have been very busy visiting every

classroom in the school to raise awareness and help

train other students on the new coloured system.

3G has taken on the responsibility these last 2 weeks

of looking after the new bins and have done an

excellent job in helping students sort their rubbish. A

big thanks to 3G for being fabulous helpers and for

effort in sustainability.

Another exciting development at NNPS has been the

building of the new veggie gardens. The area behind

the carpark and Year 6 classrooms is redeveloped

and the Year 4 gardens have now been moved

under a purpose built, netted structure. The Eco

Warrior garden beds have also been relocated and

made more accessible for our younger students.

4T and 1H have teamed up, and prepped and

planted the veggie pods to start a new growing

cycle of lettuce, celery, tomatoes, carrots, beetroot,

zucchinis and strawberries. The children will be

responsible for tending to the gardens and hopefully

can produce some fresh produce for our healthy

canteen to use.

STAGE 1 KU-RING-GAI WILDFLOWER EXCURSION

Years 1 and 2 students visited the Ku-ring-gai

Wildflower Garden this week to enhance their

learning of our Term 3 units ‘Endangered Species’

and ‘Watch it Grow’. Spring had definitely sprung

with many wildflowers blooming and turtles coming

out of hibernation. So many flowering plants ensured

that the native stingless bee hives were very active

and we were able to spot the pollen collected on

their legs, as well as make ‘bee hotels’ to help them

find shelter. Learning about the freshwater wetlands

was another highlight as was ‘Bluey’ the blue

tongued lizard.

FLU AND COLDS

During winter children at school are more likely to get

sick. We encourage parents to keep their children at

home to prevent the spread of colds and flu. If you

do decide to keep your child home, do not forget to

notify us. You can do this via the school app, email or

hand written note to the classroom teacher. Please

see your General Practitioner for all health

information.

TELL THEM FROM ME PARENT SURVEY IS NOW OPEN

Parents are asked to participate in the Department

of Education Tell Them from Me Parent Survey. This is

your opportunity to let us know how we are doing as

a school and as a system. This year there are a

number of questions that ask parents' views on

schools' inclusivity and resourcing for students with

disabilities and special needs, which will help inform

the department's strategic priorities. There are also

new questions asking parents about your school's

built environment.

Mrs Reid and Mrs Mulkeen

Could you be an ethics coordinator for our school?

Our current ethics coordinator is moving on and we

are seeking a volunteer so that classes can continue

next year. Ethics classes are currently available for

children in all years, from Kindergarten to Year 6.

The ethics coordinator communicates with school

staff, supports ethics teachers and liaises with Primary

Ethics, the not-for-profit organisation approved to

design curriculum and training for the program.

This role provides a great opportunity for a working

parent who might be unable to volunteer during

school hours and is a rewarding way to engage with

the school community. Times are flexible, requiring

approximately 1-2 hours per week. Online training is

provided.

In ethics classes, children learn how to think logically,

disagree respectfully and support their arguments

with evidence, rather than act according to blind

habit or peer pressure.

Children discuss topic such as:

imagining how others feel

how do we treat living things?

what is laziness?

how do we disagree in a respectful way?

fairness

If you are looking for an opportunity to make a

valuable contribution to our school, please visit
