Thanks to all the parents who signed the "I give a gonski” petition last Tuesday. The petition will be kept in the office until next week in the hope that we can get more signatures. Please sign this petition if you haven't done so yet, it is really important for the future of our school. It was decided at last night’s P&C meeting that as of next term our second hand uniform shop will now be managed as a donations venture for families at school. Please continue to bring in your unwanted uniforms to school, where our volunteers will work alongside the teachers in helping those who can really benefit from this wonderful initiative. Semester 2 global funding allocation from the Department. In it, the school was given $31.45 for each student for the next two terms – that is $1.57 per student per week for 20 weeks. We do also receive a federal government payment of an extra $50 per student per year that adds another $1.25 per week to the state funded $1.57; a total allocation of $2.82 per student per week. This money covers the general classroom and school supplies necessary for daily classroom operation. Any unpaid term invoices have to be paid out of general school funds. With less than $3 per week per student, there is not much leeway in our spending. Your support is crucial! Canberra success Congratulations to the Stage 3 team for a very successful Canberra excursion last week. The Year 5 and 6 students experienced two very jammed-packed days under the dedicated guidance of their teachers. Of course, the students lived up to our school’s Narra values and were a credit to all with their excellent behaviour. Well done, Stage 3. Education Week at NNPS Next week is Education Week in NSW public schools. However, just for this year NNPS is going to celebrate Education Week in Week 6 commencing Monday, 20 August. This is also Book Week and also the week of our very first creative arts concert and Science Fest. From a teaching and learning point of view, it was thought better to combine all of these events into one week. More details concerning Education Week at NNPS will be published in coming newsletters. Sentences of the week –guest class 3M Last term, 3M, 3T and 3/4G were involved in a district language project looking at sentence writing. We learnt what a sentence is and how to elaborate our sentences and correctly edit our work. We used smartboard photos to boost our ideas on writing. Here are some examples of our elaborated sentences. “When she grows up, gorgeous young Hayleigh seriously wants to be a horse rider in the arena at the Easter Show, because she wants to be famous!” Written by Josh Bramble Three years ago, on March 31, the new improved Jackson was smiling to get his photo taken in the playground because it was Shave and Colour Day.
