A note from Bonnie Johannes
To Church family,
Due to changes in the Sunday School rooms and office area, please do not bring any more donations at this time.
We are in the process of cleaning out the area and don’t have the room right now. Our desk area will eventually be located in the office building. You might want to
ask if there is another group that can use your donations...for example: Pink Cow,
Boy’s & Girls’ Club.
Words from Pastor Karen “Go into the village ahead of you, and as you enter it you will find tied there a colt that has never been ridden. Untie it and bring it here. If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ just say this, ‘The Lord needs it.’” So those who were sent departed and found it as he had told them. As they were untying the colt, its owners asked them, “Why are you untying the colt?” They said, “The Lord needs it.” Luke 19:30-34 Our Lenten journey is half over. Some of us have met for early morning prayer on campus. Some have a prayer chair at home for their devotional time. Some are taking part in the photo a day for Lent posting pictures on social media. Some of you have given up treats or chose to fast. And there is still time for you to have a Lenten practice. Set aside time to read scripture, pray and/or fast. You might even add the daily practice that comes to us from the folks at The House for All Sinners and Saints* in Denver, Colorado. I have adapted their list for our context. Here are days twenty-one through forty to finish our Lenten journey. Day 21: Ask for help Day 22: Tell someone what you are grateful for Day 23: Introduce yourself to a neighbor Day 24: Read Psalm 121 Day 25: Bake cookies for coffee hour on Sunday Day 26: No shopping day Day 27: Apologize Day 28: Light a candle Day 29: Write a thank you note Day 30: Go for a walk and pick up trash Day 31: Use Freecycle www.freecycle.org Day 32: Donate art supplies to your local elementary school Day 33: Read John 8:1-11 Day 34: Worship at a friend’s mosque, synagogue or church and look for the beauty Day 35: Confess a secret Day 36: No sugar day – where else is there sweetness in your life? Day 37: Give $20 to a local non-profit Day 38: Pray for peace Day 39: Go to a Good Friday service Day 40: Pray for your enemies. One of my favorite days in the church year is Palm Sunday. The disciples and Jesus prepare to enter Jerusalem and they are given instruction from Jesus. He said, “Tell them, ‘The Lord needs it’”. What instruction has the Lord placed on your heart? Explore this question in the closing days of Lent. Plan to come to worship and leave refreshed and renewed by the faith, fellowship and family that is Wesley. Invite a friend, neighbor or family member to join you on Easter Sunday. See you in church! Pastor Karen *www.houseforall.org
