The Position In order to prepare for upcoming openings the City of Auburn invites quality lateral and academy graduate police officers to join the Auburn Police Department team. We are looking for individuals who are seeking a challenging and rewarding position to serve the community of Auburn. Qualified individuals should be motivated, self—starters, strong desire to learn, and demonstrate their ability to work within a teamwork environment. The Department The Auburn Police Department is dedicated to the community and the citizens of Auburn making this community a safe and enjoyable place to live and visit. The Auburn Police Department’s objectives include; the preservation of life, property, and the maintenance of public order. We are able to accomplish these objectives through a comprehensive crime prevention programs, public education, training, and the enforcement of Federal, State, and Municipal laws. The Auburn Police Department is comprised of 20 sworn personnel and 8 professional staff. The Department provides police personnel opportunities in patrol services, investigative services, special assignments, dispatch, records, and administration. The Community Renowned for its beauty and outstanding quality of life, the City of Auburn is 7.5 square miles and home to an enlightened, diverse, and civic-minded population of approximately 14,070 people. Located at the crossroads of Interstate 80 and Highway 49, Auburn is the County Seat of Placer County as well as the home of the California Welcome Center. The City is located in the western foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range at elevations between 1,000 and 1,500 feet above sea level. Auburn’s location provides the advantage of being above the valley fog and below the Sierra snow line. Qualifications Lateral Entry: At time of appointment, candidates must possess or be eligible for a California Basic POST Certificate (California Peace Officer Standards and Training Certificate). The basic POST Certificate must be submitted at the time of application. Academy Graduate: At time of appointment, candidates must have successfully completed a California approved Basic POST Academy within the last 3 years. The POST Certificate must be submitted at the time of application. All Candidates: Must possess a High School Diploma or equivalency; possess or be eligible for a valid First Aid and CPR Certificate; be at least twenty–one years old at time of appointment; possess sufficient strength and agility necessary to perform the duties of a Police Officer; possess a valid Driver’s License at time of appointment; and live within a reasonable response time of the Police Department. The Position

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

Knowledge of and Ability to:

Perform a wide range of law enforcement assignments and modern law enforcement methods and procedures; including patrol, crime prevention, traffic control and investigation.

Criminal law with particular emphasis on the apprehension, arrest and custody of persons accused of felonies and misdemeanors.

Rules of evidence pertaining to search and seizure and the preservation and presentation of evidence in court.

Basic criminal investigation procedures and techniques, including crime scene investigation, Interrogation, fingerprinting, and booking.

Use and care for firearms and police equipment.

Demonstrate keen abilities of observations and memory.

Prepare accurate incident and case reports.

Meet established standards of physical endurance, agility, health & vision.

Professionally, positively, and effectively represent the Auburn Police Department.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

Salary

Base salary range of $4,810- $6,143.per month plus an additional 5% for Holiday in Lieu

Longevity steps of 5% at 7, 11,15 and 20 years of City employment (prior law enforcement service may be considered)

4% Retention Incentive

5% Grave Yard Incentive

5% Bachelors Incentive

Intermediate and Advanced POST pay Incentives

Tuition reimbursement up to $1200 per year

Retirement

CalPERS Safety formula, subject to the Pension Reform Act.

Participation in CalPERS 2.7% at 57 PEPRA plan.

Laterals– 2.0%@50 Classic plan

* CalPers has an elevation calculator to increase the percentage of final compensation in conjunction

with retirement age and total years of service (ex.2.7% @ 55 with CalPERS service in Public Safety)

Employee pays entire “Employee” obligation towards plan plus 3% of the Employer portion

Insurance

City offers CalPERS health insurance plans for employees and dependents. City provides a monthly

cafeteria amount of up to $1,881.68 as an amount above employee’s gross salary to be used toward

the purchase of health, dental and vision coverage.

Life insurance of $50,000

Deferred Compensation

Choice of plans available. Voluntary employee contribution

Leave Program

Two to four weeks vacation leave annually, based on years of employment with City

12 days of sick leave annually
