Family
From the Desk of Kindergarten Teacher,
Ms. Abigail Nettles
Dear Parents,
I am so excited to be a part of Holy Family School serving as one of your kindergarten
teachers.
My passion for Holy Family began when I started school here in 1998 and continued
through my 8th grade year when I graduated in 2007. I then moved on to St. Joseph’s
Academy and graduated in 2011. Following my graduation, I went on to earn my Bachelor’s
Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies at LSU and my teaching certification at Louisiana
Resource Center for Educators because I’ve always known teaching is what I wanted to do.
The years I experienced in Catholic education helped shape me into the teacher I am
today. Prior to teaching, I worked after-school care and summer camp at River Road
Daycare, where my passion for working with children continued to grow.
I truly believe this has always been the path God intended for me and I am so blessed to
have the opportunity to work with so many amazing students at such an amazing institution
of Catholic education. I am excited to grow with Holy Family for many years to come.

A Note from the Principal on HFS Outerwear
Dear Parents,
It has come to my attention that the handbook rule about outerwear is not being properly followed.
Below, you will find the excerpt from the handbook on THE ONLY approved outerwear items that are
allowed to be worn on campus: “Winter outwear is a zippered gray fleece with logo, a navy blue
sweatshirt with HFS logo, all-weather gray jacket with logo or letterman’s jacket.”
Any other outerwear worn to school is considered to be “out of uniform” and will have to be removed.
Hoodies are never acceptable attire to wear at school – whether they say HFS or not.
The only time any extra coats may be worn are on days where temperatures are 40 degrees and below
and an extra jacket is necessary. On these days, those extra jackets are ONLY to be worn when outside
of the classroom and outside of church.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.

5th Grade Annual Retreat
The 5th grade had their annual retreat on
Friday, February 7th. The theme of the retreat
was “Love.” They did an experiment to show
how God can take away sin in your life. They
had a Bible scavenger hunt and took a
personality test to learn their feelings about
love. The retreat was facilitated by student from
Catholic of Pointe Coupee.
Blessing of the Throats
STEM Night – February 20, 2020
Dear Parents,
Our Annual STEM Night is next Thursday,
February 20, and we are in need of some volunteers
as well as vendors to participate.
If you are able to assist or have a suggestion for a
vendor, please contact Mrs. Annie Cagle at
For the past several months students in our HFS 7th Grade classes have been working on their history project. There were multiple
catagories to choose from, a 3 dimensional design and a research paper. The students did an outstanding job and learned so much through
this project. The representative for National History Day was in attendance as one of our judges. She issued a formal invitation for ALL of
our winners to attend the Regional Competition on March 4th.
OVERALL WINNERS
GRAND PRIZE - Josh Dupre - The Maya
2nd Place - Philip Gueho - The History of Sugar Cane
3rd Place - Jacob Brown - John Deere
The Blessing of the Throats is a tradition of the Roman Catholic Church, ordinarily
celebrated on February 3, the feast day of Saint Blaise of Sebaste. Calling on St. Blaise for
throat ailments, among other things, goes back to the 8th Century.
As two candles are placed on the throat, the following prayer is recited: “Through the
intercession of St. Blaise, bishop and martyr, may God deliver you from every disease of
the throat and from every other illness, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of
the Holy Spirit.”

We were pleased to recognize
Mrs. Lauren Johnson and
Mrs. Alison Thibodeaux for 10 years of service in
Catholic education. It is through the dedication of
teachers like them, that helps to make
HFS such a success.
Congratulations to Mrs. Lauren Johnson and Mrs. Alison Thibodeaux
Thank You Mrs. Willis
We wanted to take this opportunity to say
"Thank You" to our Guidance Counselor, Mrs.
Heather Willis. For the past week we have
