251 parents attended the Annual General Assembly on 27th March, and some key decisions were made: The Budget for 2013-2014 was approved and four new Board members were elected.

I would like to thank you all for your support and wish our new Board members every success in their new role.

Alfonso Ferreira will leave us shortly and we are in the process of fi nding a replacement through a professional headhunter.

On behalf of the TES community I would like to wish Alfonso every success for the future and sincerely thank him for all of his personal and professional commitment to TES over the years.

Alfonso has always put the students fi rst and has been a wonderful person to work with. TES is certainly a different place than when he fi rst arrived and he has left his legacy through the improved facilities and school grounds.

Alfonso Ferreira nos dejará dentro de poco y estamos en el proceso de contratar su remplazo a través de una empresa caza talentos.

En nombre de la comunidad de TES quisiera desear a Alfonso todo el éxito en el futuro y agradecerle sinceramente por su compromiso personal y profesional hacia el colegio durante estos años.

Grade 11 sat their ICFES - Saber exam on March 31st and they only have a few more days with us in classes and then they will begin their Diploma IB exams.

I would personally like to wish Grade 11 every success in the preparation of their DP exams.

Seven members of staff from TES were selected from Apple to participate in a training to enable them to become the first Apple Professional Development Consultants in Colombia. Only 14 people were selected in the whole country and seven of those were TES!

This is a fantastic opportunity for growth and amazing recognition of our commitment to transforming education through the use of technology. We also attended the launch of iTunes U in Bogota.

Siete miembros de nuestro staff fueron seleccionados por Apple para participar en una capacitación que les permitirá convertirse en consultores de desarrollo profesional en Colombia. Solo se seleccionaron 14 personas de toda Colombia y ¡siete de ellos eran de TES!

Esta es una fantástica oportunidad de crecimiento y un gran reconocimiento a nuestro compromiso de transformar la educación a través del uso de la tecnología. También asistimos al lanzamiento de iTunes U en Bogotá.

We are welcoming back Guillermo Leal our Apple Distinguished Educator (trainer). He will be at TES for 5 days and will train various groups of teachers, students and parents.

We are very much looking forward to this training and are confident that he will be able to help everyone move forward with their technology skills and their approach and attitude towards using technology within the pedagogical framework.

We have completed the first stage of the application process to become a CIS school. We are now awaiting news from CIS. TES is being studied by CIS and we hope we are accepted to move to the next stage of application.

Le damos la bienvenida nuevamente a Guillermo Leal, distinguido educador de Apple (capacitador). Él estará en el TES durante 5 días y capacitará a varios de nuestros profesores, estudiantes y padres de familia.

Estamos muy emocionados con esta capacitación y estamos seguros de que con su ayuda todas las personas capacitadas podrán mejorar sus habilidades tecnológicas y su cercanía y actitud hacia el uso de la tecnología en un ambiente pedagógico.

Hemos completado la primera etapa del proceso de aplicación para convertirnos en colegio del CIS. Ahora estamos a la espera de noticias del CIS quien está evaluando al colegio y esperamos ser aceptados y pasar al siguiente paso del proceso.

We received a visit from Diana Pinillos, health auditor, and received formal feedback regarding our medical center. The feedback was very positive and we were congratulated for being the only school in Bogota with such incredible facilities. We are very lucky to have our own full time Dr Ana Maria Holguin and a professional nurse, Monika Horta who are such caring and dedicated professionals.

Congratulations for such a positive report!

TES hosted and participated in three different UNCOLI events last month:

• The UNCOLI Mini-Volleyball Festival• The UNCOLI Music Festival • The UNCOLI Art Exhibition for Pre-School.

All events were excellent, with a high participation of TES students and families and involved other UNCOLI schools.

felicitaron por ser el único colegio en Bogotá con instalaciones de este tipo. Somos muy afortunados de tener una doctora de tiempo completo, Dra Ana Maria Holguín, y una enfermera profesional, Mónika Horta, quienes son una profesionales dedicadas y amorosas.

Congratulations to all the students who participated on the TES Factor. The quality and standard was incredible.

We are looking forward to the PreSchool students Mini TES Factor.

Thank you to Alvaro Rodriguez, his department and AACBI for the organization of the XVI Philanthropy Round Table that took place in La Guajira on March 12th

- 14th at the Albania School in El Cerrejón. 155 students attended and 11 schools participated.

TES is the only school that arranges such an event and it is widely known for promoting deep thinking and reflection.

PoeTry FesTivALs / FesTivALes De PoesíATES hosted two Poetry Festivals: one for Primary and one for Secondary, with the participation of other schools such as Colegio Gran Bretana, Colegio Anglo Colombiano & St George´s School.

Both events were incredible. Our students excelled and our standard of English was exceptional. I was so proud!

Thank you so much to Deirdre O´Doherty and Amy Flanaghan for organizing the events with such passion and enthusiasm.

TES fue sede de dos festivales de poesía: uno para Primaria y otro para Secundaria, con la participación de otros colegios como: Colegio Gran Bretaña, Colegio Anglo Colombiano y Colegio San Jorge de Inglaterra.

Nuestros estudiantes sobresalieron y nuestro nivel de Inglés fue excepcional. ¡Me sentí muy orgullosa!

Andres Rubio our Head of Communications left last month and we are in the process of evaluating options of working with an external company. I would like to thank Andres for all of his hard work. The Communications Team (publications, graphic design, social networks and events) will continue to work on our communications strategy.

For the fi rst time The English School, through its Department of Professional Counseling, manages to make the process with an agency CSA specialist in high performance athletes.

For several months the process was promoted in the school making the selection of the winner.

A group of 4 students was selected as fi nalists: Betty Torres (football), Laura Morales (volleyball), Federico Arango (football), Hans Müller (soccer). The scholarship was awarded to Federico Arango, of 10th grade, by their sports level in football, and who will receive grant is 50 at least. From then on it depends on their academic performance.

Congratulations Federico! and congratulations to the fi nalists! The road so far starts and there is much to be done.

sPorTs sCHoLArsHiP / beCA De DePorTesPor primera vez el Colegio de Inglaterra The English School, a través de su Departamento de Consejería Profesional, logra hacer el proceso con una agencia CSA especialista en deportistas de alto rendimiento.

Durante varios meses el proceso se promovió en el colegio haciendo la selección del ganador.

Se seleccionó un grupo de 4 estudiantes como fi nalistas: Betty Torres (fútbol), Laura Morales (voleibol), Federico

Arango (fútbol) y Hans Müller (fútbol). La beca se otorgó a Federico Arango, de décimo grado, por su nivel deportivo en fútbol, y quien lo mínimo que recibirá de beca es el 50%. De ahí en adelante depende de su desempeño académico.

Football is a sport that generates passions and at our school it could not be the exception. This passion has led many TES parents to want to represent the school and wear its shirt. These parents are involved with energy and conviction to make the team stand out from others. Such is the passion generated by this sport that some parents who are active team members were also founding members of the UNCOLI tournament and have their children graduated from TES.

2014 is the year of the world cup and probably some parents who are reading this note feel identified when someone says that life without soccer is pointless, especially when the characters are themselves. Soccer has a sacred word which is the reason to play: GOAL!. This word generates feelings of joy, passion, glory, fellowship. The heart moves faster when we hear or pronounce it; it is a word that has great significance in many of the contexts in which we find ourselves.

From 2014 TES has two parent’s soccer teams. The new team was created on the initiative of an alumni and father committed to the sport. The name of the new team is “English 1961” and the uniform design was based on the colors of the Scotland squad (one of the countries of the UK), combined with the foundation’s school year. Trainings are held every Thursday nights from 7:30 PM in the soccer field at the school. The team has already been registered at the UNCOLI tournament, and has their matches on Sunday mornings. It is expected to represent our school very well. Parents interested on joining the team can write an e-mail to englishschool1961@gmail.com

Soccer passion is indescribable and we should thank because it awakens in us countless emotions, and we do impossible things to do, such as getting up early every Sunday to go play a game on behalf of our children’s school. Share with us the soccer passion!!!

El fútbol es un deporte que genera pasiones y en caso de nuestro colegio no podía ser la excepción. Esta pasión ha hecho que muchos padres de familia del TES quieran representar al colegio y vestir su camiseta. Estos padres de familia participan con energía y convicción para que su equipo se destaque entre los demás. Es tal la pasión generada por este deporte que algunos de los padres que integran el equipo son fundadores del torneo de la UNCOLI y tienen hijos egresados del TES.

2014 es el año del mundial de fútbol y seguramente algunos padres que estén leyendo esta nota se sentirán identificados cuando alguien diga que la vida sin el fútbol no tiene sentido y más cuando los protagonistas son ellos mismos. El futbol tiene una palabra sagrada por la que se juega: ¡GOL! Esta palabra genera sentimientos de alegría, pasión, gloria, compañerismo. El corazón se mueve más rápido cuando la escuchamos o la pronunciamos; es una de las palabras que tiene un gran significado en muchos de los contextos en donde nos encontremos.

A partir de 2014 el TES cuenta con dos equipos de fútbol de padres de familia. El nuevo equipo fue creado por iniciativa de un exalumno y papá del colegio comprometido con el deporte. El nombre del nuevo equipo es “English 1961” y el diseño del uniforme se basó en los colores de la selección de Escocia (uno de los países del

Reino Unido), combinado con el año de fundación del colegio. Los entrenamientos se realizan todos los jueves a partir de las 7:30 PM en la cancha de futbol del colegio. El equipo ya fue inscrito en el torneo de la UNCOLI, que tiene sus partidos los domingos en la mañana. Se espera que represente muy bien a nuestro colegio. Los padres de familia interesados en unirse al equipo pueden escribir al mail englishschool1961@gmail.com

La pasión del fútbol es algo indescriptible y debemos dar gracias porque despierta en nosotros innumerables emociones y hacemos cosas imposibles de hacer como madrugar todos los domingos para ir a jugar un partido en representación del colegio de nuestros hijos. ¡Comparta con nosotros la pasión del futbol!

We are so jealous and look forward to hearing all about it when you return!

I am sure everyone is excited about the forthcoming world cup in Brazil. We would like to share with you all that as a community we wish to “embrace” the world cup and take every opportunity to enjoy the event and link it to as many learning experiences as possible.

For this reason, I would like to share with you the following information:

1. STICKER ALBUM – Students and staff are allowed

Estamos muy celosos y esperamos oir todas sus experiencias cuando regrese.

2. CURRICULUM LINKS – Teachers will be encouraged to find any “links” to the event to enhance teaching and learning across the curriculum.

3. MATCHES – We are aiming to show as many games as possible during LUNCH time in the Cafeteria. Students will need to attend all classes as per their timetable and will have the opportunity to view the games during their lunch time if they coincide.

4. RECREATIONAL SPORTS WORLD CUP – Primary and Middle School students will be invited to participate in a TES World Cup tournament after the Easter break during recess and lunch time as part of our Recreational Sports project.

Please can you share this information with your son/daughter to make sure we have an enjoyable experience and everyone is clear about the expectations in school.

3. PARTIDOS – uno de nuestros objetivos es mostrar la mayor cantidad de partidos posibles durante el ALMUERZO en la cafetería. Los estudiantes tendrán que asistir a todas sus clases de acuerdo a su horario y tendrán la oportunidad de ver los juegos que se transmitan al almuerzo, si alguno coincide.

4. DEPORTES RECREATIVOS MUNDIAL DE FúTBOL- como parte de nuestro proyecto deportivo recreativo, los estudiantes de primaria y secundaria serán invitados a participar en un torneo de la Copa Mundial del TES la cual se realizará después del receso académico de Semana Santa durante las horas del receso y almuerzo.

Por favor compartan esta información con su hijo(a) para asegurarnos de que tengamos una experiencia agradable y que todos conozcan y tengan claras las expectativas de TES.
