A message from Dr Bertram
This week’s thread: taking care of God’s Creation
“The heavens are Yours, the earth also is Yours; The world and all it contains, You have founded them.” Psalms 89:11
We have been given dominion over creation. With this gift comes the responsibility to care for the well-being of all of creation, which includes other people. This responsibility is an active role. We are not to simply manage the planet’s resources and thereby gain the most benefit for our own goals; instead, we are to look out for the well-being and prosperity of God’s creation for His sake. We are to nurture and protect God’s gifts to us, never exploit or pillage the blessings and be mindful that we are caretakers.
The earth belongs to God and it has been declared to be good by God. It is a gift from God for our good. Creation reveals His majesty, His creativity and His glory. By common grace, all may enjoy the blessings of the created world.
“The earth is the Lord’s and everything into the world and all who live in it.” Psalm 24:1
Through education we can help students understand their role as caretakers of God’s creation. They can plan lives that allow them to be workers, developers and carers of God’s world. Our students will be called upon to solve problems that have an impact on our earth. We pray they will develop solutions to issues like sustainability, access to limited resources and urban development with a Christ-like heart and a deep love for God’s creation.
What can we do here at Tongarra to encourage students to reflect on taking care of God’s creation? In practical ways, we have many avenues. We are blessed by the most wonderful views of the farmlands and escarpment – every day our students have the opportunity of relaxing in a beautiful natural environment. We have the opportunity of teaching our students about recycling and sustainability through our system of tanks, water collection/recycling and solar panels. Agriculture classes provide students with skills for growing their own food and raising chickens. P-2 also made vegetables plots that have been very productive over the past year. If you have not visited these parts of our campus, please drop by one morning.
Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere. Ephesians 6:18
Pray for our Year 12 students who began their Trial HSC Exams on Tuesday. Pray for good recollection of all they have studied and a sense that God is with them. Pray for good outcomes and results for all our students.
Pray for staff as they develop strategies for help those students with additional needs.
Give thanks for good participation and success in a number of recent sporting events.

40 Hour FamineThis year the student council are again running the World Vision 40 hour famine. On the weekend of 14-16 August, thousands of school students from across the state will take part in raising funds to alleviate hunger in developing countries. They will do this by going without for 40 hours, in numerous forms, such as no food, no technology, no speaking, no sight and countless other chosen deprivations. The student council, led by Natalie Cunzolo, has chosen to ask all of its representatives to be an active part of the weekend. They have also signed up their fellow students for the cause and have encouraged them to look to global concerns and act in response to this. We should be encouraged by our enthusiastic and committed student council representatives, as they take the lead in this powerful cause. Please feel motivated to support our students in this endeavour by sponsoring them for their efforts. We, as a school, have been recognised for our past efforts in the 40 hour famine by World Vision, and we hope to continue this commitment into the future.
