Working together to spread the Gospel Saint Wendelin Luxemburg Holy Cross – Pearl Lake (Marty) Mary of the Immaculate Conception Rockville Sunday Bulletin 8th Sunday in Ordinary Time February 26, 2017 From Safari…. Our reading from Isaiah assures us that God will never forget us. Yet there are times when we for- get God, forget all that God does for us. As Jesus notes in today’s Gospel, God cares for us even more than for the wildflowers and the sparrows. This all encompassing love of God should stir us to live by God’s commandments and seek to share God’s love with those around us, especially those in need. On Wednesday we begin our annual Lenten re- treat. From Wednesday through April 12th, we walk with Christ in the desert, preparing ourselves to celebrate a new the Paschal Mystery during the Triduum. Our Lenten retreat invites us to to be- come more aware of God’s constant presence in our lives; a time to sa- vor this immensely deep love for us, to let it truly sink into our minds and hearts that we are cher- ished by our creator and invited to share God’s very life. The Lenten ex- ercises of fasting, prayer, and almsgiving help us draw closer to Christ and to know the truth of our baptism. As Pope Francis notes in his Lenten address: “Lent is the favorable season for renewing our en- counter with Christ, living in his word, in the sacra- ments and in our neighbor. The Lord, who over- came the deceptions of the Tempter during the forty days in the desert, shows us the path we must take. May the Holy Spirit lead us on a true journey of conversion, so that we can rediscover the gift of God’s word, be purified of the sin that blinds us, and serve Christ present in our brothers and sisters in need. Let us pray for one another so that, by sharing in the victory of Christ, we may open our doors to the weak and poor. Then we will be able to experience and share to the full, the joy of Easter.” Have a peace filled week! Fr. Thank you to all the Lions and Lioness who came to the school! We’re praying for beautiful weather on March 11 th for the St. Patty’s Day parade! It’s sure to be a fun and busy day whether there’s sunshine or snow! Please consider bringing your graduation picture to the school for our Dinner and Auction. We’re hoping that parish members will let us make a copy of their picture to hang up for “A Night Through the Decades”. It’ll be fun to see how much we’ve all changed through the years! From Safari…. Our reading from Isaiah assures us that God will never forget us. Yet there are times when we for-get God, forget all that God does for us. As Jesus notes in today’s Gospel, God cares for us even more than for the wildflowers and the sparrows.

This all encompassing love of God should stir us to live by God’s commandments and seek to share God’s love with those around us, especially those in need.

On Wednesday we begin our annual Lenten re-treat. From Wednesday through April 12th, we walk with Christ in the desert, preparing ourselves to celebrate a new the Paschal Mystery during the Triduum. Our Lenten retreat invites us to to be-come more aware of God’s constant presence in our lives; a time to sa-vor this immensely deep love for us, to let it truly sink into our minds and hearts that we are cher-ished by our creator and invited to share God’s very life. As Pope Francis notes in his Lenten address: “Lent is the favorable season for renewing our en-counter with Christ, living in his word, in the sacra-ments and in our neighbor. The Lord, who over-came the deceptions of the Tempter during the forty days in the desert, shows us the path we must take. —Fr. Ron —

CLUSTER and OTHER NEWS Lent Begins...this week with Ash Wednesday on March 1st. Though not a holy day

of obligation, all are encouraged to come and join our faith community as the Church

begins its Lenten journey to ultimately share in the Death and Resurrection of Jesus.

Please check page 3 for the cluster Mass schedule that day.

Lenten regulations require all Catholics age 14 and older to abstain from meat on Ash

Wednesday, Good Friday and all the Fridays of Lent. Those ages 18-59 are also re-

quired to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday (one full meal and some food for

other meals but no eating in between.)

Blessings on your Lenten journey!

Minnesota FoodShare...This March our cluster will join with other faith communi-

ties, as well as food shelves, businesses and organizations

across Minnesota in the movement to end hunger. The more

food and donations collected by our local food shelves-- Cath-

olic Charities, Kimball Area Food Shelf, and the Rocori Area

Food Shelf, the more incentive funds received from Minnesota

FoodShare - the more hungry families fed in Central Minneso-

ta. Place your donated items in the boxes in back of our

churches, put your cash donations into an envelope marked

“Food Shelf,” and drop in the collection basket.

Rice Bowls...will be available for pickup in each of our parishes this weekend.

Throughout Lent, Operation Rice Bowl reminds us to pray and give to those in need

around the world. Please put your extra change or bills in the bowl and turn your

bowls in on Good Friday.

Bulletin Update…. A reminder that our new bulletin format with LPI will begin next

Sunday, March 5th. The new bulletin deadline will be Tuesdays at 10:00 a.m.

Bingo! ...Our Youth Group would like to invite all members of the cluster parishes

and guests to enjoy refreshments and play bingo. We hope to see you on Sunday

March 26th from 2 to 4pm at St. Wendelin's parish in Mary Hall! Please bring the

whole family and friends, all are welcome! (If you would like to donate dollar store

items, please drop them in the Bingo-labeled boxes in the back entrances in each of

our churches. Thank you!)

Making Our Voice Heard...The Minnesota Catholic Conference is hosting the first-

ever Catholics at the Capitol, a day of inspiration and advocacy, Thursday, March

9, 2017. It is my hope that the Diocese of St. Cloud has a sizable presence at Catho-

lics at the Capital. We have arranged for buses to transport from Alexandria and St.

Cloud. To register (registration is required) for the bus go to: https://www. survey-

monkey.com/r/Catholics at Capitol.

Faith Formation News and Dates: There will be no classes this coming Wednesday, March 1st, due

to it being Ash Wednesday. Instead, all students and their fami-

lies are encouraged to attend Mass.

Our next classroom sessions will be Wed., March 8, Grades K-10, 7 to 8 pm at MIC.

Please keep in mind parents are always welcome to join our Faith Formation classes

each week.

Food Drive...Thank you to all who have already contributed to the

February Food Drive sponsored by our Confirmation class. We thank

our young people for putting on this drive. Let’s support their efforts

as well as make a difference in the lives of our area needy by filling

those collection boxes which will remain in each parish through this

month of February.

Hospital. Flexible
