Honors English 9 Summer Reading Assignment 2018-2019 Expected time commitment: 10-12 hours for reading the novel and looking up and taking notes on the mythological references. Due: The first day of school. Assessments will be in the first week, both multiple choice and written.

1. Read Fahrenheit 451 (Bradbury)—Students can check out a copy of this novel at the Laguna Beach High School library. Make sure you understand the plot, characters, major motifs, symbols, and themes.

2. Mythology—Students should become familiar with the mythological references listed below. It is recommended to take notes, paying particular attention to what each figure is “god of”, any animals or symbols associated with the figures, and significant stories associated with each (especially the allusions).
