Internship Goals

• Gain a better understanding of what role I could play in the workforce as an Electrical Engineer

• Apply textbook knowledge

• Apply extracurricular knowledge

• Improve my abilities to use testing equipment

• Learn what it takes to develop a new product

Page 8: Summer Internship Presentation - JDK

8

• 15 Updated or Created Ladder and Wiring Diagrams

• Implemented new Diagram Border for Easier Reading

• Checked over a dozen of DMT’d parts

Accomplishments

12

• Well over a dozen DMT’d parts– Cougar, Condor, Adgressor, Advenger,

* Control Boards, Pump Controllers, Interface Assemblies• Several TFR’d parts• Provided support for teammates TFRs

– Blue Phoenix aka Focus II Rider– CS7000 aka Cougar– Well over 100 pictures of waveforms

Testing

Page 13: Summer Internship Presentation - JDK

13

• Issue– Pin 11 on chip U27 failing

• Problem Observed– High voltage spikes seen on pin 11 above

rated tolerance are deteriorating it• Potential Cause

– Higher voltages are being induced on pin 11 trace from a nearby high voltage trace

– Actuator runs and causes spiking from back EMF

• Actions– Unable to test HV trace properly and is almost

certainly the cause– Test actuators to eliminate as a possibility

Testing Cont. – Cougar

14

• As much work to support products after their release• Length of time for bringing a new machine to market• The most important question to ask “What’s the goal?”• Knowledge about the cleaning industry• Interdependence of the departments and fields• An electrical engineer is….a lot of things….

What I learned

Page 15: Summer Internship Presentation - JDK

15

• Flexible Hours• Weekly team meetings• Mentor to ask questions to• Ability to ride machines!

Recommendations to Keep

Page 16: Summer Internship Presentation - JDK

16

• Give one big project to finish by the end of summer along with small ones

• Shadow different departments for a day

• More Lunch-n-Learns

Recommended Changes

Page 17: Summer Internship Presentation - JDK

17

• Finish degree at University of Minnesota – Twin Cities

• Grad School?• Full-Time then grad school?• Start-Up Company?• Retirement?

Future Plans
