All aboard! It’s time to ride Laurel’s Gator Train! This year Gator TrainCampers will travel across America and learn about the history andcharacteristics of our states through stories, songs, science, crafts andcooking. Led by Laurel faculty, campers will explore geography, naturalresources, wildlife and cultural traditions that help make each of our statesunique. Weekly field trips focused on the theme for the week, outdoor play,water play and creative arts will make this camp an adventure for everycamper. Each week will be packed full of fun and imaginative activities revolvingaround weekly themes. Days will be filled with science experiments, games,sports, crafts, nature exploration, field trips, swimming and much more! And what better way to complete each day than with Laurel’s ProjectAdventure Course? Campers will also learn the importance of teamwork as they experience the low ropes elements. Tuition: $400/session

Campers will explore mountain biking, climbing, paddle boarding andwilderness backpacking. Daily experiences will introduce new and excitingadventures on our 140-acre campus and will be enhanced by customizedtrips focused on specific skills. This camp will enable young teens tochallenge themselves individually and in group situations. Time will be spent on the 14 high and low elements offered on Laurel’s Project AdventureRopes Course to help foster creative problem solving, promote leadership and build self-confidence through improved communication skills. Camperswill need to come prepared with an adventurous spirit and a desire to havelots of fun! (Campers should have their own bike and be proficient at cyclingand swimming.)

Tuition: $150

Laurel’s former Head Varsity Lacrosse Coach offers this camp to develop the fundamentals of the game while accelerating individual development.Emphasis will be placed on stick work, position-specific fundamentals andgame simulation drills. Instruction will be specific for one’s age and ability.

In addition to lacrosse, campers will spend time in our state-of-the-art 16,000 square foot fitness center while working with Laurel’s certifiedStrength and Conditioning Specialist to learn about lifting techniques, agility and explosive exercises, ACL/injury prevention and nutrition. Campers will finish the program with a personalized workout plan for thesummer. Campers should bring all equipment, extra socks, cleats, tennisshoes and shin guards.

Volleyball Camp Ages: Girls Entering Grades Kindergarten - 8Dates: June 23 - 26Time: Kindergarten - Grade 4: 9:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.

This first-class soccer camp focuses on enhancing individual skills, building team tactics and teaching intricacies of the game. In addition to soccer skills, campers will spend time in our state-of-the-art 16,000square foot fitness center while working with Laurel’s certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist to learn about lifting techniques, agility andexplosive exercises, ACL/injury prevention and nutrition. Coaching Staff:TIBI REGELE - Head Varsity Soccer Coach at Laurel School, Tibi played in the Youth National Budapest Team and played professional soccer inHungary until 1994. Tibi has coached high school soccer in Cleveland since 2005. In 2011, he led Laurel’s soccer team to the state finals.

NICOLE NANCHOFF - Assistant Coach at Laurel School, Nicole playedsoccer at Walsh Jesuit where she won one national championship and two state championships. She then played Division I soccer at DuquesneUniversity and played semi-professionally for the Cleveland Internationals W-League team. She was the Assistant Coach at Cleveland State Universityfor one season and assistant coached the state runners-up Laurel soccer team.

Explore the possibilities of papermaking, paper mache and clay. Campers will create and manipulate various materials (some that may surprise you) to make their very own paper with varying colors, textures and patterns and clay which they will use to build pottery and make jewelry. Field trips,games and outdoor fun will round out this highly creative offering.

Campers are encouraged to stretch their creativity and artistic abilities while advancing their knowledge of clay, FIMO, glass and more. Techniquesintroduced throughout the week will help campers create everything frompractical pottery to jewelry. A field trip to The Glass Asylum will introducecampers to the basics of glass blowing including how to work safely in thestudio, how to gather from the furnace and how to use the primary tools.Each camper will have an opportunity to make their very own glass creation!

Using the design process that encourages experimentation, creativity andproblem-solving, this camp allows campers to use the natural environmentas a spring board for creative expression. Campers will visit the ClevelandMuseum of Art to explore ways that design is utilized by artists andarchitects. They will also engage in art-making at Laurel School’s ButlerCampus, including printing, mud painting and building sculptures. The week culminates with a surprise design thinking challenge that will inspirecollaboration, innovation and FUN!

Students will be encouraged to push the ceramic medium as far as theirimagination can take them. This camp includes exploration of the ClevelandMuseum of Art’s vast collection of ceramic works from around the world. We will experiment with various hands-on methods of ceramic constructionand decoration, including raku, faience, and slip. The week culminates withan outdoor firing of a piece of raku pottery at Laurel’s Butler Campus.

Join Chef Laurel for this fun-filled cooking camp inspired by popular cookingshows! Campers will focus on kitchen basics like mixing, measuring, tastingand safety while having fun in the kitchen. What cooking camp would becomplete without Cupcake Wars! Campers will visit Cleveland Heights’ ownLuna Bakery Café and learn the secrets to decorating cupcakes that rival any on television.

Focused on the farm-to-table experience, this camp teaches kids aboutgrowing plants, harvesting food and offers field trips to some of Cleveland’sfinest restaurants where campers can connect with local culinary innovatorsincluding Doug Katz who will offer hands-on cooking classes to complimentthe foundations built throughout the week. Campers will learn to createculinary treasures from scratch and with proficiency.

Are your children always “helping” in the kitchen, asking to bake cookies or a cake? Do they ask you how to cook? Campers will delight in the locallysourced ingredients used in this fun, get-your-hands-doughy camp wherethey can develop their kitchen skills and engage with other kids who like tocook. Occasional visits to local farms and popular Northeast Ohio restaurantswill add more depth to the camp. Imagine a child with skills like menuplanning, pastry baking, proper utensil skills, kitchen hygiene and healthyeating habits. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg! (Note: No iceberg will be used in this camp!)

Great Lakes Theater (GLT), northeast Ohio’s professional classic theater since 1962, is one of the nation’s pre-eminent regional theater companies.This performance intensive will focus on William Shakespeare’s classiccomedy Twelfth Night and is designed to challenge and enhance the skillsand capacities of performers, Grades 9 - 12. Students will be immersed in a professional training program to hone their acting techniques and abilitiesand use this experience as a springboard to Theater Apprentice Programsacross the nation. This conservatory-style program will include intensivevoice, movement, text, stage combat, monologue and scene work, and willculminate in two fully staged performances of Twelfth Night.

Regardless of whether you have had some exposure to Shakespeare or are experiencing his genius for the firsttime, campers rave about Laurel’s dramatic summer program, Shakespeare Rocks! During this two-week camp,student actors investigate the artistry and process of theatre under the guidance of a classically-trained actor. After analyzing and interpreting text, campers will learn how to stage scenes and create characters using only theirbodies, voices and imaginations. Campers also will use technologies old and new to design costumes, sets andstaging for the selected plays. Parents and friends will be invited to a performance at the conclusion of the camp.

Laurel’s STEM Summer Institute is an exciting opportunity for girls to use the engineering design process to solve a challenging real-world problem! Participants will accomplish this task and will gain skills inareas such as scientific inquiry, statistical analysis, computer-aided design(CAD) drawings, building scale models, and hands-on prototype building.

This camp is designed to introduce students to modern languages while theyexperience summer fun including cooking, sports, arts, sightseeing and fieldtrips throughout the city— in the target language. Your child will be immersedin language, culture, and pure fun in this camp led by Laurel WorldLanguages faculty and counselors who are fluent in the language. Chinese,French and Spanish are offered in an immersion setting to give campers thefoundation they need to enter a language class at their grade level.

While cooking tapas, crepes or egg rolls, our students spontaneously usetheir target language to request flavors, colors, and what they like and don’tlike. Summer campers have such a blast they often forget that they areexperiencing it in another language!

Engineering Prosthetic Devices

Today, people can regain the function of a missing limb, such as a hand orleg, with the aid of a prosthetic device. Using what we’ve learned from thesetechnologies, engineers have created prosthetic devices for animals, such as dogs, horses, sea turtles and dolphins. Considering important factors such as comfort, durability and functionality, in this course you will have theopportunity to engineer prosthetic devices for a variety of species. July 4th Holiday: Summer at Laurel will be closed Friday, July 4th. Camp program fees for that week are discounted 20% from the five-day-week fee.

Refunds will not be granted after May 1. ere are no pro-rated fees or refunds for campers arriving after the start of the session, leaving before its completion, or missing any time during the camp. Early Bird Discount: A 10% early bird discount applies to all registrations received prior to February 1.

Multiple Week Discount: Receive up to 50% off a week of camp! Sign up for multiple weeks of camp and save! For each additional week, you will receivean additional 5% off camp. Weekly discounts only apply to camps that are offered on a one-week session basis. Laurel discounts do not apply to GreatLakes Science Center or i2 camps.

Lunch & Snacks: Campers and students who attend full-day camps at the Butler Campus and Lyman Campus will be provided hot and cold lunch optionsprepared by Laurel School’s culinary staff. All campers will need to bring two snacks and a water bottle each day. Great Lakes Science Center campers maypurchase Laurel lunches for $30/week through Great Lakes Science Center.

Shuttle Service: Shuttle service is available for an additional fee of $30/week for Summer at Laurel campers attending full-day camps on Laurel’s ButlerCampus in Russell Township. Please note that shuttle service is not provided for half-day camps at Laurel’s Butler Campus. e shuttle will leave from Laurel’s Lyman Campus in Shaker Heights at 8:30 a.m. daily. Pre-registration is required.

Extended Care: Before Camp Care & After Camp Care is available at Laurel’s Lyman Campus in Shaker Heights for a separate fee.
