Materials Needed
1 Jelly Roll (40 strips) - Blocks
1 1/2 yard white fabric—Blocks, Sashing & Borders
1/2 yard coordinating fabric—Binding
3 3/4 yard coordinating fabric—Backing
64 inches tall x 64 inches wide—Quilt Batting

Assume width of fabric = 42 inches
Press seams as indicated

Cutting Instructions
From White Fabric
(12) 2.5 x 12.5 inch rectangles
(11) 2.5 x width of fabric strips
From Binding Fabric
(5) 2.5 x width of fabric strips
Sewing Instructions:
Make the Blocks
Step 1: Choose two contrasting jelly roll strips, sew the long sides together and press seams toward the darker fabric.
Step 2: Referring to the diagram below, cut (2) 12.5 inch rectangles and (6) 2.5 inch units. You will have some left over fab-
ric to use for another project.
Step 3: Referring to the diagram below, lay out the (6) 2.5” units and sew together, press seams open.
Step 4: Referring to the diagram at right, lay out the (2) 12.5” rectangles and the
unit created in Step 3. Sew together and press seams toward the 12.5” rectangle.
Step 5: Repeat Steps 1-4 to make a total of 16 blocks for the quilt front.
Quilting Math
1/4 inch = .25 inch
1/2 inch = .5 inch
3/4 inch = .75 inch

Tip: Use all the 40 Jelly Roll strips to make a total of 20 blocks.
Use the extra 4 blocks and coordinating backing fabric to make
a pieced backing for your sofa quilt.

Sewing Instructions:
Sew the Quilt Top Together
Step 1: Referring to the diagram at right, lay out the blocks and the 2.5 x 12.5” white
rectangles in 4 rows.
Step 2: Sew the blocks and rectangles together in each row. Press seams toward the
white rectangles.
Step 3: Sew the 2.5 x width of fabric strips together to make (5) 2.5 x 54.5” strips and (2) 2.5 x 58.5” strips.
Step 4: Referring to the diagram below, sew the 2.5 x 54.2” strips to the block rows completed in Step 2. Press seams
toward the white strips.
Step 5: Referring to the diagram above, sew the 2.5 x 58.5” strips to the left and to the right of the quilt top. .
Finish the Quilt
Step 1: Layer the backing fabric, batting and the quilt top. Quilt using your favorite quilting technique.
Step 2: Sew the 2.5 inch binding strips together and attach to the quilt using your favorite binding technique.
