Lesson Topic: Scratch Spanish Review Grade level: Spanish II Length of lesson: 2 Days @ 55 minutes Stage 1 – Desired Results Content Standard(s): Computational Thinking o Describe how various types of data are stored in a computer system. o Describe how computation shares features with art and music by translating human intention into an artifact. ACTFL World Language Standards 1.2 – Students understand and interpret written and spoken language on a variety of topics. 1.3 – Students present information, concepts, and ideas to an audience of listeners or readers on a variety of topics. 3.1 – Students reinforce and further their knowledge of other disciplines through the foreign language. 5.1 – Students use the language both within and beyond the school setting. 5.2 – Students show evidence of becoming life-long learners by using the language for personal enjoyment and enrichment. Understanding (s)/goals Students will understand how to break down individual components of a game in terms of a game using Scratch programming. Essential Question(s): How can computers be used to facilitate study and impact motivation? What kinds of tasks are best suited for computerization and why? What sort of language information is hard to remember and would be good to commit to memory? Stage 2 – Assessment EvidencePerformance Task(s):

Students will play each other's games and take screen shots of them scoring at least 10 points on 5 different games.

Other Evidence: Teacher will test out/check each

game at least once before it is uploaded.

Stage 3 – Learning PlanLearning Activities:

Teacher will explain that we are going to be exploring elements of computer programming to make games for review.Teacher will ask students to play the game and take note all the features that they notice in the game.Students will log-in and play the teacher's example game. Must score 10!!!

Class will share observations about the feature of the game.Students will open the code of the program with Scratch.Teacher will present various features of Scratch and have students alter the existing game along with the teacher. (At least: Reprogramming questions, adding audio clips, changing the stage background and changing the sprite)Teacher will hand out instructions/rubric, and briefly explain project.Students will have time to work on the project, due at the end of the hour.

For the next day:Students will touch-up their projects in the computer lab.Teacher will demonstrate how to take screenshots and place them into word documents.Students will play 5 other students' games and save screenshots when they achieve 10 points in a game.Students will also write at least 5 sentences about their experience with programming. (How is this skill this valuable? What makes/could make it fun? What did you learn from this project? Did this help you review your Spanish verbs?Class discussion on what was learned or found to be of interest. Teacher will briefly discuss computer science and importance in ALL fields. (CS plug!)Students will submit their word documents with screen shots and reflections.

Materials Needed:

Pre-written review questions made by the students. (This could be a homework assignment from the previous day.)Computers with internet connectivity, Scratch software and camera/microphone
