Parish Mission Statement
The Parish of St. Mary, Cause of Our Joy, inspired by Mary’s “Yes” and led by the Holy Spirit,
strives to be a faith-filled community, joyfully welcoming all to witness and to celebrate the Gospel.
This weekend, we celebrate our 2
nd
anniversary of the
foundation of our parish. Happy Anniversary! Let us give
thanks to God for the many blessings and graces we have
received as a parish community in this short time. God is good!
All of the time! He never leaves us without the guidance of the
Spirit.
I did a little bit of research on what a two-year old child can and
usually does. A two-year old is no longer an infant, but called a
toddler. To “toddle” means to walk with unsteady steps.
Perhaps we, too, are still not confident enough to take steady
steps, for fear of tripping, of falling, of getting hurt. A toddler
slowly grows in confidence. It seems that the two-year old
toddler’s favorite word is “No”. I wonder how often we have
used this word, maybe just thought it, in relationship to the
growth of the parish. Interestingly enough, most two-year old
toddlers do not play well together. They are also generally very
self-centered, and often do the opposite of what they are asked.
I was chuckling as I read this article, thinking how this
describes many people who are much older than two. We all
have heard the term, “The terrible twos”, because two-year olds
are known for their terrible temper tantrums. This age is surely
one of important growth for a child. Parents and other family
members must realize the great steps a child is taking during
this period of growth.
We as well are continuing to grow. Sometimes we still may say
“no” to suggestions or ideas coming forth from the parish. We
may still not want to “play nice together” with others who don’t
share the same background as we do. We may not throw
temper tantrums, but we may gossip and complain about things
if they are not going our way. We must allow one another to
grow and to grow together. Inspired by Mary’s “Yes” and led
by the Holy Spirit, we strive to be a faith-filled community,
joyfully welcoming all to witness and to celebrate the Gospel.
Happy Anniversary!

What is RCIA?
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is a Catholic
program or education intended to instruct in the Catholic
Faith those who are seeking to enter into full communion
with the Catholic Church through Baptism and/or
Confirmation and Holy Communion. RCIA is your compass
to the Catholic Faith.
Who should look into RCIA?
•Anyone not yet baptized.
•Anyone baptized but not as a Catholic.
•Anyone baptized as a Catholic who did not yet receive
First Communion or Confirmation.
•Fully initiated Catholics seeking fuller catechetical
knowledge of their Catholic Faith.
•Anyone at all looking to learn more about Christianity.
The RCIA program is led by a team who will help guide
participants on their Faith Journey. In addition, participants
will also have a sponsor to pray with them and guide them
throughout the process. The process consists of four phases:
INQUIRY
Initially, participants will learn the RCIA process and
overview of the faith to discern whether this is the step they
wish to take at this point in their lives.
CATECHUMENATE
Participants attend a number of classes to learn the
fundamentals of the Roman Catholic Church to develop a
prayer life and foster conversion.
ENLIGHTENMENT
Participants focus on self-examination, repentance and
prayer in preparation for their entry into the Church.
MYSTAGOGIA
Following the rite of initiation at the Easter Vigil, the
participants are asked to define the next steps of their
journey in faith. The new Catholics are encouraged to get
involved in the Parish Ministries and to worship with the
community they choose to join on the weekends.
If you think you might be interested in knowing more about
the Catholic Faith, please call the Parish office at 734-425-
4421.

Anointing of the Sick
THIS Friday, JULY 6
The celebration of the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick is intended for anyone who
is seriously impaired by sickness, chronic illness, old age, addictions, or emotional
problems and for those who are about to undergo surgery, serious medical testing or
be admitted to the hospital. You do not need to receive the sacrament every month,
only when your medical condition changes drastically. The Sacrament of Anointing of
the Sick takes place monthly at St. Mary, Cause of Our Joy. It will be this Friday,
July 6 beginning with the celebration of the 8:30am Mass.
To make arrangements to celebrate the sacrament at other times, please contact our
parish office. Patients in hospitals and residents in nursing homes can be anointed if
they did not celebrate the sacrament prior to admission. They or their family members
should contact the institution’s Catholic chaplain to make similar arrangements, or
call the parish office.

American Cancer Society
Relay For Life—
Westland/Wayne
Thank you to everyone in
our parish family that came out and
participated in the American Cancer
Society Relay for Life of Westland/
Wayne on June 9 or June 10 in support of
our team - "Heart and Sole".
We appreciate everyone that came out
and worked concessions at pavilion #4 in
Tattan Park, stopped by and purchased
concessions from our site and all those
who came out and walked on behalf of
our team.
It was also great to see some of cancer
survivors from our parish walk the
opening lap for us and enjoy a lunch
provided by Westland restaurants in your
honor.
Finally thank you to everyone that spent
countless hours making decorations for
our team, purchasing food, loading and
unloading a U-Haul truck to get
everything we needed to and from the
park. Your hard work is so much
appreciated.
Together you helped our parish team
raise $4,047! The goal for our city event
is $54,500 and we are only $635.00 away
from reaching that goal. We are still
accepting donations on behalf of our
team through August 15. You can make
checks payable to the American Cancer
Society or you can also make a donation
on line. If you are interested in making a
donation on line, please email Carol
Nelius at [email protected]
and she will send you the direct link in
order to do that.
It was an amazing family friendly day of
celebrating, remembering, and fighting
back to end cancer! If you did not get a
chance to join us this year we hope you
will consider joining us next year!
Together we make a difference!
Yours in the fight!
