Greetings and Salutations,

In today’s Gospel, Jesus says, “I am the living

bread that came down from heaven.” Bread, a

common food, is an important part of our diet.

Jesus uses this image to help all of us

understand how necessary it is to have a

relationship with him. Jesus is our spiritual

food. Jesus says, he will abide in us and we in

him. Abide means to remain…How can you

remain in Jesus?

Faith Formation registration is underway we

look forward to an exciting year. If you have

any questions or concerns, please contact me

at 734.425.4421 ext. 217.

Have a great week everyone and remember…

Just for laughs…what did the one spider ask

the other spider? “Could you connect me to

the web?”

Sunshine & Smiles,

Sabrina Queen

From the Pastor’s Desk

I read this story recently, and then I heard of one of

our parishioners complaining about what another one

was wearing. I found this story apropos. We need to

keep our eyes and hearts fixed on one thing only

when we come to church. We are not the ones to

judge!

A lady went to her Pastor and said ‘Pastor, I won’t be

going to your church anymore.’

The Pastor responded ‘But why?’

The lady said ‘Ah! I saw a woman gossiping about

another member; a man that is a hypocrite; the

worship team living wrong; people looking at their

phone during service; among so many other things

wrong in your church.’

The Pastor replied ‘OK. But before you go, do me a

favor: take a full glass of water and walk around the

church three times without spilling a drop on the

ground. Afterwards, leave the church if you desire.’

The lady thought: too easy! She walked three times

around the church as the Pastor had asked. When she

finished she told the Pastor she was ready to leave.

The Pastor said, ‘Before you leave I want to ask you

one more question. When you were walking around

the church, did you see anyone gossiping?’

The lady replied ‘No.’

‘Did you see any hypocrites?’

The lady said ‘No.’

‘Anyone looking at their phone?’

‘No.’

‘You know why?’

‘No.’

‘You were focused on the glass, to make sure you

didn’t stumble and spill any water. It’s the same with

our life. When we keep our eyes on Jesus, we don’t

have time to see the mistakes of others. We will

reach out a helping hand to them and concentrate on

our own walk with the Lord.'”

At any church, there are going to be things to

complain about. A church is filled with people, and

people aren’t perfect. Only Jesus can set the perfect

example, so let’s focus on Him!

“Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but

only such as is good for building up, as fits the

occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.”

Ephesians 4:29

Fr. Ken

As many of you may know, about a year ago we

started working on establishing a St. Vincent de Paul

Conference at St Mary, COOJ. After many meetings

with the folks at the Archdiocesan Council, our

Conference started helping neighbors in need at the

beginning of the calendar year. Since then they have

helped a number of people with the resources our

parish has given them. They are doing a great job, but could do much

more with your help.

They could use a few more people to return phone calls, and go on

Home Visits to people who need assistance. That may sound a little

scary, but as someone who has done it, I can say it is also very

rewarding. They also do a great job training you, so you will have a

place to start.

Another way to help is by supporting our Conference at the annual

Friends of the Poor Walk in September (there is a separate article

with more details on page 5 of this bulletin). You can join our

Vincentians, and those from around the Archdiocese on the actual

walk (last year there were around 700 walkers). If walking is not an

option, you can donate to one of the walkers who are going down to

the event. The great thing about this event is that all donations stay

with the local Conference. Towards the end of the month there will

be SVdP members in the back of church to sign people up, or you can

go to our website stmarycooj.org to find a link to sign up online.

HOLY NAME FRATERNITY

Greetings to all from Holy Name Fraternity! We hope you can hold out another month

until we return with the Pancake/French Toast breakfasts on September 16. HNF

members please recall we agreed to work another Texas Hold'em fund raiser August

23-26. Dave Gluth (734- 5680-4688 or [email protected]) is coordinating the event

and needs volunteers. Call him if you can help. A retreatant from our group recalled

that Jesus invited the Apostles to come apart and rest awhile. HNF membership is not

required to come apart and join the men's retreat at St. Paul of the Cross Retreat

Center, September 28-30. For just $30 you can register for the retreat on line at

stpaulretreat.org. Registration is easy; the weekend is a great experience; and you will

return refreshed and spiritually renewed. Holy Name Fraternity is a sponsor of this

great weekend.
