WEEKLY MESSAGE FROM FR. LARRY

Dear Friends, Today is a day for celebration – it’s Pentecost Sunday and we say “Happy Birthday” to the Catholic Church! Happy birthday to you too, who are the body of Christ, members of the Church. Pentecost celebrates the 50th day of Easter when the Apostles and their followers gathered in a room and the Holy Spirit came upon them as tongues of fire. They all spoke different languages, but the Holy Spirit allowed them to understand each other. Peter then called those present to be baptized; these were the first Catholics and Peter was our first Pope. Thus began their Earthly ministry to make disciples of all nations. Must have been a great party! Other celebrations will also take place this week. Our 8th grade students will be graduating on Wednesday, June 7th. Many of them have been here since kindergarten, so this has been their second home for most of their young lives. Graduates, we wish you all the best in high school and beyond. De igual manera Feliz cumpleaños a ti también, porque eres el cuerpo de Cristo, miembros de la Iglesia. Pentecostés celebra el 50 día de Pascua, cuando los Apóstoles y sus seguidores se reunieron en una habitación y el Espíritu Santo vino sobre ellos como lenguas de fuego. Todos hablaban diferente lenguas, pero el Espíritu Santo les permitía entenderse. Entonces Pedro llamó a los presentes para que fueran bautizados; Estos fueron los primeros católicos y Pedro fue nuestro primer Papa. Así comenzó su ministerio terrenal para hacer discípulos de todas las naciones. ¡De seguro fue una gran fiesta! También habrá otras celebraciones esta semana. Nuestros estudiantes del Octavo Grado se graduarán el miércoles, 7 de Junio. Muchos de ellos han estado aquí en la escuela parroquial desde kínder, y es aquí donde ha sido para ellos su segundo hogar. MUSIC MINISTRY Music Ministry at Saint Mariana de Paredes has as its purpose the goal of leading the assembly to “full, conscious, and active participation” (SC 10) in the liturgy through the leadership of well-prepared musical ensembles, cantors, instrumentalists, and through music choices that preserve the sacred music tradition of the church as well as incorporate new works being composed today. Saint Mariana de Paredes offers opportunities to those called to the ministry to participate in the musical life of the parish. The Pastoral Council is focusing on more events to offer to the Parish Community with a theme of “Let’s Pray and Play Together”. The Sports Dinner and Game Night is one of these events. Please mark your calendars for Friday, June 16, 2017 starting at 5 pm. We will offer a “tailgate” dinner, various drinks and dessert and lots of fun and games. Tickets are only $5 and are good for full value towards your dinner selection. We’re having a Giant Jenga Competition and Sports Night Trivia Game with prizes to the best players. There’ll be music and fun for kids too, so bring the entire family! Wear your favorite team’s jersey! Yesterday was the last day of school here at SMS, so it’s a great way to start your summer vacation!

DID YOU KNOW? Hot cars can mean serious danger for kids It is rarely done intentionally, but in a matter of minutes, children left in hot cars can suffer greatly. Car temperatures rise quickly, leaving children susceptible to heat stroke, seizures, and even death. Temperature in a car rise 30 to 40 degrees in just a half an hour. Consider installing a safety mirror in the back of your car to help keep an eye on children, and never leave them alone in the care, even for a minute.
