OUR WEEKLY MISSION2019 Annual State of the Parish Report This weekend, I am excited to share with you a colorful new format for reporting the overall state of our parish during the fiscal year July 1st, 2017 through June 30th, 2018. Inside the four-page report you will find important parish data including the
number of registered families, sacramental data, financial information for the church and school and the last names of all the new families who joined the parish over the past year. I want to personally thank everyone who generously gives of their time, talent and treasure to help make St. Columbkille Parish a sacred place to worship God, serve others and form disciples of Jesus. It is my intention to publish a report like this every year moving forward to be as transparent as possible to parishioners on all the good things we have to be grateful for at St. Columbkille. Please take some time to read it over and look for the 2020 report to come at the end of this year.Air Conditioning Project & Landscaping Improvements We are quickly nearing the end of the installation process for our new church air-conditioning system. This past week, inspections were done on the system and with any luck, it should be up and running by the time you are reading this. In addition to the new air-cooled chiller, engineers are preparing to install new digital control thermostats in the church to help regulate the air temperature more effectively. These controls will work with both the heat and the air conditioning much like the digital thermostats you have in your own house. You probably have noticed the significant landscaping upgrades at the entrance of the church. The overgrown pine trees were badly damaged by the wind (one fell over, another had shallow roots and was leaning over) and I made the decision to redesign the space with updated plantings. We wanted to provide walking access to the beautiful St. John Paul II and Holy Mother Mary statues by installing pavers and new plants. Look for additional landscaping to be installed around the new air-cooled chiller in the coming weeks.Congratulations Deacon Chris DePenti: On Saturday May 4th our parishioner Mr. Chris DePenti was ordained a permanent deacon by Bishop Nelson at St. John’s Cathedral. We are excited for Deacon Chris and his family and I want to invite everyone to attend the 10:30 a.m. Mass on Sunday, May 19th where Deacon Chris will be serving at the altar for a special Mass of Thanksgiving. What a blessing!First Communion Congratulations: On Saturday, May 4th, we had over 50 second graders receive their first Holy Communion at a special Mass at 12:30 p.m. Thank you to Mrs. Shari Chmura, our director of faith formation, our teachers and catechists who collaborate with her, who prepared our children so well to receive Jesus in the Eucharist for the very first time. Never forget, the Lord is with us, always!

WEEKLY SCRIPTURE PASSAGELet us pray together a verse from Paul's Letter to the Ephesians. Let us never forget that we have been redeemed by the blood of Christ.“In him we have redemption by his blood, the
forgiveness of transgressions, in accord with the riches of his grace” – Ephesians 1:7
FATHER JAMIE’S HEALING HUMORA man is on a trip on a small airline. The flight attendant says, “Would you like dinner?” He says, “What are my choices?” She says, “Yes or no.”
(from THE FRIARS CLUB ENCYCLOPEDIA OF JOKES, 1997)
When Peter answers "yes" to Jesus’ questions about love, his choice becomes restricted. This is not bad; it’s good. Jesus reveals to Peter that He is entrusting him with the care of His flock, His lambs and sheep which we call "the church." Jesus wants all of us to answer ‘Yes’ about loving Him. Then, when He knows we love Him, He entrusts us with the ministry of spouse, parent, teacher, priest, deacon, grandparent, brother, sister, child – all these and many more ways to care for the Lord’s flock.

CATHOLIC MEN’S FELLOWSHIPHello, men! Welcome! Here is a free offer. Come join us for an hour or two. We meet twice a month. We do not collect dues or record attendance. Instead, we talk about life and values. We learn from each other’s experiences. We are excited to read short religious articles. We listen to a song or two (but do not sing along). We are not afraid to pray out loud. We are not holy yet, but maybe you can help improve us. Here is your opportunity to talk or just listen. It is usually the first and third Tuesday nights of every month, from 7:15 to 9:00 p.m. Come join us this Tuesday, May 7th, in the Parish Center. Questions? Please call Ron Snyder at (216) 396-1200.
MEN OF MERCYDid you know there is a Men’s group in our Parish that feeds the hungry, shelters the homeless, buries the dead and other Corporal Works of Mercy? The “Men of Mercy” have donated thousands of dollars to needy individuals and families in our area. Here are just a few of the causes that we have supported thus far:• Donated walkers and wheelchairs to St. Columbkille
parishioners who were unable to afford them.• Purchased a set of Catholic youth books for an
11-year-old grandson living in custody of his grandmother. Father died of an overdose and mother is in prison. Richard told his grandmother that he wants to learn more about Jesus. They are in the process of joining a local Parish!
• Provided temporary housing for a local resident who was wrongly evicted from his rental in Seven Hills.
Comprised of over 50 local area men, we meet right here at Saint Columbkille. If you are looking for a Ministry that is making a real difference and doesn’t require a huge time commitment (we meet only 4 times a year!), please consider joining our ranks! To learn more about the Men of Mercy, please join us at our next quarterly meeting on Wednesday, May 8th, at 7:00 p.m. in the St. Columbkille Church Basement. Refreshments will be served. For more information, please contact Gary Minjock at (216) 408-3242.
