Dear Friends, At Pentecost - by God’s grace - we were able to begin Perpetual Adoration. Today, the Solemnity of Corpus Christi, we are able to give fitting thanks to God for so great a gift. This solemnity, instituted by Pope Urban IV in 1264, is intended to give the Church Universal an opportunity to give due honor to the Most Holy Sacrament of the Altar. What makes this Feast even more beautiful is the hymnody composed by St. Thomas Aquinas. In particular, please prayerfully read the Sequence for this feast, which you will hear at Mass - Lauda Sion. It is like a mini-theological treatise on the Holy Eucharist, expressed through beautiful poetry:

Sion, lift up thy voice and sing: Praise thy Savior and thy King, Praise with hymns thy shepherd true.

All thou canst, do thou endeavour: Yet thy praise can equal never Such as merits thy great King.

See today before us laid The living and life-giving Bread, Theme for praise and joy profound.

The same which at the sacred board Was, by our incarnate Lord, Giv'n to His Apostles round.

Let the praise be loud and high: Sweet and tranquil be the joy Felt today in every breast.

On this festival divine Which records the origin Of the glorious Eucharist.

On this table of the King, Our new Paschal offering Brings to end the olden rite.

Here, for empty shadows fled, Is reality instead, Here, instead of darkness, light.

His own act, at supper seated Christ ordain'd to be repeated In His memory divine;

Wherefore now, with adoration, We, the host of our salvation, Consecrate from bread and wine. Hear, what holy Church maintaineth,

That the bread its substance changeth Into Flesh, the wine to Blood.

Doth it pass thy comprehending? Faith, the law of sight transcending Leaps to things not understood.

Here beneath these signs are hidden Priceless things, to sense forbidden, Signs, not things, are all we see.

Flesh from bread, and Blood from wine, Yet is Christ in either sign,

All entire, confessed to be.

They, who of Him here partake, Sever not, nor rend, nor break: But, entire, their Lord receive.

Whether one or thousands eat: All receive the self-same meat: Nor the less for others leave.

Both the wicked and the good Eat of this celestial Food: But with ends how opposite!

Here 't is life: and there 't is death: The same, yet issuing to each In a difference infinite.

Nor a single doubt retain, When they break the Host in twain, But that in each part remains What was in the whole before.

Since the simple sign alone Suffers change in state or form: The signified remaining one And the same for evermore.

Behold the Bread of Angels, For us pilgrims food, and token Of the promise by Christ spoken, Children's meat, to dogs denied.

Shewn in Isaac's dedication, In the manna's preparation: In the Paschal immolation, In old types pre-signified.

Jesu, shepherd of the sheep: Thou thy flock in safety keep, Living bread, thy life supply: Strengthen us, or else we die, Fill us with celestial grace.

Thou, who feedest us below: Source of all we have or know: Grant that with Thy Saints above, Sitting at the feast of love, We may see Thee face to face.

Amen. Alleluia.

A MESSAGE FROM DEACON MIKE CARL

As a follow-up to last week’s Volunteer Apprecia-tion column, I would now like to also thank the counting team that spends several hours every week preparing our deposit, the Ushers, the Lectors, the Extra-ordinary Ministers, and the Sacristans that help make our Mass flow smoothly, and the Knights-of-Columbus who each do so much in our parish.

If I have forgotten anyone, please wait until next week for the 3rd column to see if I have been reminded of others not mentioned last week!

If you would like to be included next time, and, more importantly, if God is asking you to do more, we will be hosting a meeting between the Masses on Sunday June 10th to discuss the events listed below and to gather your thoughts and ideas about activities you may wish to see here at St. Ann Parish.

ARE YOU BEING CALLED TO SERVE? A message from Pat Vanderpool

Do you enjoy sharing your faith? Are you ready to be a witness to Jesus Christ? Is the joy of the Gospel in your heart, on your lips and on your face? If you say “yes’ then you might be the one the Lord is calling to work in the religious education and evangelization program here at St. Ann. We are currently searching and praying for a few souls who are looking to serve the parish in this important ministry. Please call the religious education office at 731-0295 or Pat Vanderpool at 967-7493 to find out more about this opportunity.

How many times have you been told that you, as a parent, are the first and greatest catechist for your children? The truth of that message is that you teach before you even use any words by faithful example and your teaching carries the greatest weight and the most credibility. I must admit that there are times when that truth was not at all consoling. We all have struggles in our faith and there are many times when I feel totally inadequate to be a representative for faithful discipleship. But those are the times when I am trying to do it on my own. From past experience I know that is a very bad idea. God is so pleased to have us be witnesses to our children

and He glories when we ask His divine assistance to do so with His grace.

At our parish the religious education/evangelization team is eager to help you with this effort. I also believe when we echo the messages your students receive at home credibility scores go up on both ends. Being on the same page with you and having catechists share their authentic witness with your students can be a huge support in your students’ formation. Because we take a break from formal religious education classes in the summer months we want to offer, through the bulletin and website, weekly ideas to help you continue the faith journey with your students

over the summer. These will be brief suggestions of things to introduce or remind your students about so that summer vacation from school and studies (which is a very good and necessary thing) does not become a vacation from Jesus (which we know could be a disaster).

Please also consider this an invitation to contribute to this

effort by making suggestions of things to include; especial-ly if you have enjoyed a special activity that has drawn your students closer

to the Lord. Your ideas as first and best catechists are always welcome and appreciated.

ALTAR SERVERS JOIN THE ST. ANN TEAM

Informational Meeting SUN I June 24 I 10:00 am St. Ann Conference Room

Calling all young men who have received their first communion. Have you ever wondered what it's like on the altar during Mass? Ever wanted a closer look at what it’s all about? Well, the Altar Servers would like to invite you to join our ministry! We are seeking young men from St. Ann Church that would like to become more involved by

serving at Mass. We’ll provide the training. All you have to do is show up with enthusi-asm and a heart that is ready to participate in Mass in a new way. Once trained as an Altar Server, you will be scheduled on a rotating basis to serve at the Mass that you have indicated. Servers will also participate in fellowship activities so that you can make friends and form lasting bonds.

If you are interested in learning more about an awesome ministry that’s comprised of young men like you, join us on June 24th or please contact the Altar Server Ministry Coordinator Eric Sherwood at [email protected].
