St. Ann Parish Mission Statement We are called by a loving God

to make St. Ann of Lansing a Catholic community of faith. We are a family of diverse people with various ministries: healing the body and spirit, teaching of God and His love,

united in sacraments and prayer, reaching out to the extended community. With God’s revelation of Himself in Scripture as our guide,

we strive to grow in His Spirit and to fulfill the promise of Christ’s Kingdom.

Today is the Sixth Sunday of Easter and Mother’s Day, so we celebrate with our moms, and we wish them all our best for their continued success. We are truly blessed to have such wonderful women in our lives to help and guard, to rule and guide.

MY MOM (Author Unknown)

My mom is very sweet and always caring. She worries about me when I am in school. She makes sure that I get where I am going

On time so that I don’t feel like a fool.

She cares whenever I pick on my younger brother. She cares whenever he or I get hurt.

She cares whenever I score a goal in soccer. She cares about the buttons on my shirt.

But best of all, my mom loves all of us, When we’re good and when we’re bad.

She makes me happy with a hug and kiss, And holds my hand when I am sad.

And always remember the Chinese proverb: There is only one smart, gifted and pretty child in the world, and every mother has it.

No gift to a mother can ever equal her gift to you―life.

And remember that behind every successful woman… is a basket of dirty laundry.

Whodunit? None of the kids in THIS house!

Thank you, Most Blessed Mother Mary for being our example, and together let us pray a decade of the rosary. We all could certainly use it, and if not, share your pray-er with others.

Serving Him Together,

Barb A.

Miss Me—But Let Me Go

When I come to the end of the road And the sun has set for me,

I want not rites in a gloom filled room. Why cry for a soul set free?

Miss me a little—but not too long And not with your head bowed low. Remember the love we once shared.

Miss me—but let me go.

For this is a journey that we all must take, And each must go alone.

It’s all a part of the Master’s plan, A step on the road to home.

When you are lonely and sick of heart Go to the Friend we know, And bury

your sorrows in doing good deeds. Miss me—but let me go.

In Loving Memory of

Carol F. Munari Roger Tyderek, Sr.

Helpers Needed for SPRED

The SPRED (SPecial REligious Development) ministry is a faith formation and inclusion program and an agency of the Archdiocese of Chicago, which has designed a unique program for people who live with various developmental disabilities, both physical and mental.

St. Ann’s hosts a SPRED group for adults 22 and older, where members form friendships with their helpers and people from the parish who journey with them in faith. SPRED ministry helps our special friends to become aware of God in their daily lives and prepares them for full participation in the sacramental life of the parish.

Participation in a small faith community like SPRED also nourishes the faith and spirituality of the helper catechist. At present, we need helper catechists to guide and assist our friends. All are welcome to volunteer for our St. Ann SPRED ministry group, whether you attend St. Ann’s or another parish.

A SPRED community worker will guide new volunteer helpers in a formation process through a series of meet-ings, observation opportunities, and training. Helpers are prepared to offer respect, hospitality, meaningful experi-ences of faith formation, and prayer grounded in love to those who may otherwise be left out. This extraordinary process best serves the unique needs of participants and assures inclusion for all.

To get involved with SPRED, or for more information, please contact Annette at 708-418-1332.

Women’s Club

Come join us for our last Spring gathering of the year, Thursday, May 17, 7:00 p.m. in the Narthex. The instal-lation of new board members for next year will be fol-lowed by a pot luck dinner. Monthly meetings will re-sume in September.

We would like to extend a special thanks to all who at-tended our Spring Luncheon, and also to Father Bill, who did a fine job of calling Bingo. We hope to see you next year!

LECTOR MEETING Wednesday, May 16, 7:00 p.m.

School Library

Deacon Dave will be our special guest speaker. Please bring your Bibles.

If you haven’t attended the last two meetings, you need to come to this one

to remain on the schedule.

May 12-13, 2012

Dear Friends, Happy Mothers' Day to all Moms, Grandmas, Godmoth-ers, spiritual Mothers, and expectant Mothers! We thank God today for the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of Jesus, and the patron of all Mothers. Thank you all for your love, sacrifice, support, understanding, and exam-ple of Faith!

May God bless our First Communicants who received Jesus in the Eucharist for the first time (the first of many) yesterday. We thank Mrs. Nancy Dermody espe-cially, since this will be the last First Communion class for her at St. Ann School. Mrs. Dermody will be retiring at the end of this school year, and we are grateful for her 28 years here at St. Ann.

On Sunday, June 3, we will honor Mrs. Dermody and our other retirees, Mrs. McCarthy, Mrs. Pamedis, and Mrs. Wylie. These four great women have dedicated a combined 124 years of service to St. Ann School. They will be honored at the 10:30 a.m. Mass, and there will be a reception in their honor in the Narthex after the Mass. Please help us spread the word to their former students.

We will host an Open House for interested families in Pre-K through Grade 2 on Tuesday, May 15, 2012, from 9-11 a.m. If you would like to tour the school but cannot come during the school day, call us and we will arrange an evening/week-end tour.

Ronald McDonald will visit Grades K-5 on May 15, and will address the Art of Friendship and the Horror of Bul-lying. He will speak at 12:30 p.m. Parents are invited to attend. Earlier that same day, Grades 3, 4, and 5 will enjoy a lively in-school field trip which will educate them in the ways of the early days of America.

Our band students will perform at Memorial Junior High on May 15, at 7:30 p.m. We are proud of our band members and wish them success!

The St. Ann School Living Rosary and May Crowning will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 18. Our First Communicants will join our Class of 2012 in lead-ing prayer. Everyone is welcome to pray with us.

God bless you and yours, Donna Lamoureux

All boys in Kindergarten through 4th grade and their families are invited to join the Cub Scouts

start off with a quick bike inspection and a chat about riding safely, and then we’ll take off on

Bob Cole recently donated an Automated External Defib-rillator (AED) unit to St. Ann’s to be kept in the Church in case of an emergency. Nine parishioners, including Brian Kozlowski and several ushers and sacristans, were trained in its use and in CPR by the Lansing Fire Depart-ment. The AED is stored in the Ministry Room at the back of church, and is indicated by a prominent sign on the door. Thank you, Mr. Cole!

The Traveling Madonna

Our parish is honored to have a traveling statue of Our Lady of Fatima, which was purchased by donations from our Wednesday night Rosary Group.

All families are invited to sign up to have the statue of Our Blessed Mother in your home for a week. Many people ask other families and friends to join them in praying the rosary once or twice that

week. This special opportunity to have Mary’s image with your family inspires you to make time to pray to-gether. As Fr. Payton’s famous saying goes, “The fam-ily that prays together stays together.”

Please call the parish office at 895-6700 to sign up for a week to honor the Mother of God in a special way.
