Pastors Pen: As you may have heard, our Archdiocese will be undergoing an intensive Strategic Planning Process; it will begin in earnest in September, and is expected to be a five-year process. The need for Strategic Planning is driven by shifting demographics (Catholics moving from one area to another) and declining number of priests. Below is the data on number of priests; next week I’ll give the data on changing demographics.

DONATIONS NEEDED
There is an ongoing need for donations to St. Gertrude’s Little Food Pantry. Volunteers who manage the pantry have seen an
increasing demand for food and other items in recent weeks. Parishioners of both St. Gertrude and St. Ann churches
are invited to join in the mission to maintain the pantry for people in need.
Located on the parking lot between the St. Gertrude rectory and the cemetery, the pantry is free and open to all, 24 hours a day,
seven days a week. The slogan is: “Take What You Need; Leave What You Can.”
All types of non-perishable food, especially protein, are needed. No glass bottles or jars. Personal hygiene items also are
needed. Please help if you can by dropping off items at the pantry. If the pantry is full, please leave items at the rectory and they will be
picked up and stored for use later. Thank you for your help.
First Thursday Adoration/Holy Hour

With Deepest Sympathy Our Sympathies go out to the
Margie Heimann Family on the loss of her sister-in-law Mary-Jane Bernadine-Heimann
Please keep her family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
Padre Pio Padre Pio nourished himself by constantly engaging in
prayer. He said, "Prayer is the key that opens the heart of God." The Padre Pio Prayer Group will meet on Sunday, August 1st
after the 7:30am Mass. Please feel free to join us--you're always welcome! If you have a special prayer intention, call Jux Riley at
314-630-5319 so the group can pray for you.
A quote from Padre Pio--
Remember that everything that happens in the future lies in the will of God, in his plan
for us. Only if we accept our smallness with absolute humility and awareness of God and his will, can we hope he will listen to our pleas and satisfy our big and small
requests.

17th Sunday in Ordinary Time “There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish; but
what good are these for so many?” JOHN 6:9 The miracle of the Loaves and Fishes carries two important
messages. First, no matter how little we have, we always have enough to share. Second, Christ can take our humble gifts and do great things with them if we are just willing to let Him. Nothing is
impossible with God. All of our gifts, big or small, were given to us for a reason. No gift is too small or insignificant!

Children’s Liturgy St. Ann has had some request to bring back our Children’s Liturgy
Program on Sunday mornings at our 9:00AM Mass. We are looking for 8-10 volunteers that would be willing to help out with the pro-
gram. A schedule would be made and volunteers would be sched-uled for the same weekend each month. There are typically 2 vol-unteers a Sunday. All of the prep work for the program would be done for the volunteers and would be ready each weekend. Our
volunteers are asked to make sure they grab the children’s liturgy book from the ushers closet when they arrive at Mass, when it is
time for the readings to begin at Mass Fr. Carl will call the children forward along with the volunteers, give them a blessing and the children will head downstairs for the program. When it is time for offertory to happen the volunteers will bring the children back up and they can return to their parents. Please contact the parish of-
fice if you would be interested in helping out.
We are still looking for 3 to 4 more volunteers !
