We welcome, Daniela, Jennifer and Michael as new
staff to St. Andrew’s in 2013. The list also reflects
that many staff are commencing different roles at St.
Andrew’s next year.
We have previously recognized the extended
service to St Andrew’s from Mary Gowans. Mary
was a founding staff member and has contributed in
many ways to the school community that go far
beyond her roll of school officer. We thank Mary and
wish her well in retirement although I am sure Mary
will be as active and as busy in retirement as she
has been over the past thirty two years.
Similarly we have had a special celebration for
Adrienne Kennedy who has served Catholic
Education over a long period of time. Adrienne has
been a key person in introducing the extensive use
of technology throughout our school and supporting
the staff and students in its use. Our thanks to
Adrienne and we also wish her well in retirement.
Joyce Henderson is moving from St Andrew’s to St
Peter’s in East Bentleigh. Although Joyce is moving
schools we will be able to keep in touch via her blog,
skype and the other technologies that she uses so
proficiently. Joyce has served St Andrew’s very well
over the past five years. All the best at St Peter’s
Joyce!
The final staff member departing, but only for twelve
months is Laura Leung. Laura will be gaining some
valuable experience overseas before joining us
again in 2014.
St Andrew’s App
St Andrew’s has an updated app for your iPhone
and iPad. Unlike the original version this app is
available for download from the App Store and is
quicker and more informative. Includes push
notifications, alerting you to all information updates.
If you want to keep informed on what’s happening at
school this app is a must. Details of installation are
on the attached brochure.

Year 6 Reflections
Being at St. Andrew’s has provided us with not only knowledge but also
memorable moments and friendships that are unreplaceable. We thank
all the staff members who have made this journey possible for us
because without them, we wouldn’t have had these amazing experiences.
St. Andrew’s has been our second home. The students and teachers have become our family. It hasn’t
been the excursions and the camps that have been important, but it has been the times where the
teachers and students have supported us through tough times. It has been an incredible journey.
Our gold and blue emblem will be forever imprinted within our hearts…
This year has been a fun and exciting year with some great new memories which we will always
treasure throughout our high school years; my favourite being Grade 6
camp where we all challenged ourselves together. We would like to
thank you teachers Mrs Maio and Miss Tomomi for making it a wonderful
year for us. Emmanuel, Anna & Emily 6M
This year has gone by so fast and it’s sad to see that we will all be
going our separate ways. A big thank you to my wonderful teacher Mrs
Jalsovec for all her support and for making Grade 6 such a wonderful
experience for all of us.
Last but not least, a big thank you to all the Grade 6 students for making my primary school
years a blast. I wish you all the best and good luck for your coming high school years.
Thank you, Brittany 6J
This year has been a great and joyful year. Even though we have had our ups and downs this year, we will always remember our last year as the best!
By Joanna, 6J
Year Six has been a blast! We have done so much art work. We have been
on excursions and have learnt so many facts. During the years we have
made so many great friends and we would never forget the awesome times
we had together. We are going to miss this school and the friendly
teachers we have met. It has been a wonderful year.
By Carey & Ngoc 6T
On the first day of Grade Six we all were terrified, we didn’t know if our teacher Mr. Tyndall would be nice
or strict. After a few weeks we got used to being in Grade Six and we started to enjoy Mr. Tyndall as our
teacher. Now that the year is over we are all a bit sad as this school has benefited us so much, we made so
many new friends this year and it would be a shame to leave all of the teachers and our friends.
By Chloe & Tory 6T
S.R.C.
The SRC representatives had lots of fun this year. We were all honoured to help Mrs. Maio and Mr. Tierney
improve the school. This year the SRC team accomplished many things. We raised a lot of money for St.
Vincent De Paul by having a very successful Cupcake and Slice stall. We also improved bulling at St.
Andrew’s and friendships. We helped raise money for people who are suffering from MS by running a Lolly
stall and we also helped decide on buddy activities for the whole school. We wish the 2013 School
Captains Richard and Angela and the new SRC representatives the very best for next year.
Yours Sincerely Zara, Fred and Jason
YEAR SIX STUDENT AWARDS
St Andrew’s takes pride in all its students therefore their achievements, contribution
and promotion of the school values are acknowledged and celebrated regularly at
Assembly, through Student of the Week and at other times during the year.
At Year Six Graduation we celebrate the milestone achieved by every student in
the level and acknowledge their contribution and achievements with a special
Mass and Dinner.
As a school community we also wish to recognise those Year Six students who:
make a positive contribution to the school
promote and uphold the school values by their behaviour towards others at all times
are positive role models for other students
demonstrate a positive attitude to their work and always strive to do their best
Much thought goes into the selection of award recipients and they are awarded on the basis of the
above criteria.
Award recipients are announced at the final School Mass of the year. Names of recipients will be
posted the Principal’s blog and will be published in the first School Newsletter in the New Year.
Spirit of St Andrew’s School Community It is with much gratitude that we reflect on this past year with its many achievements and highlights.
As a school, we have participated in so many wonderful and fun learning experiences and have made many
new friends along the way.
The wonderful partnership that exists between the school, the parents , the strong link with the parish and
the wider community are visible through such activities as:
- Sacramental Program and the Year Level and other special Liturgical celebrations,
- Extra curricula activities including Incursions and Excursions and Sporting events,
- The Better Buddies and extended Buddies activities
- Preps –visiting the Friendship Group as well as the Year 6 hosting of the Anointing Masses
- Working Bees and family and friends working together to support the school in various ways and many
numerous other ways.
We congratulate our graduating Year 6 students and wish them the very best in Secondary School.
A big thank you to all the students who have contributed in making St Andrew’s School the BEST SCHOOL.
Rachele Oliver (Deputy Principal & R.E.Leader)
To the parents who have supported St. Andrew’s School
Community whether in the classroom, excursions, swimming, at
sport or helped in any other way.
