Sister Susan Madley, SVF. 50th Anniversary of Religious Profession

Last Saturday we celebrated the Golden Jubilee Anni-versary of Sister Susan Madley, SVA, a religious sis-ter of the Congregation of our Lady of Fidelity who is now retired after working for many years at Central Washington University. We want to thank all the peo-ple that made this celebration so memorable for Sister Susan, especially Geordy Watson, Joanne Cortese, Diane Dier, Judy Ross, Luc Tylor and all the volun-teers who helped with the decorations in the hall and serving the food. Also our music director Barbara Pickett and Haley Rominger (cantor), Eva Herion (violin) for making the music at Mass so special.

Here is a short biography of sister Madley. Sister Susan was born and educate in England, she became a catholic at age sixteen. Having received her BA and MA from London University, she taught in Catholic High Schools and at the collegiate level. She entered religious life at age twenty-four. She joined the Congregation of Our Lady of Fidelity, founded in 1831 at La Délivrande (Normandy) by Henriette le Forestier d'Osseville. Their primary mis-sion is the sheltering and education of orphan girls. In 1848 the sisters established an orphanage and school in Upper Norwood, London, the first catholic orphan-age in England Sister continued to teach throughout much of her for-mation. She came to the US in 1966 to teach at Easter Michigan University and to study at the University of

Michigan for a doctorate in Psychology and Admin-istration. Completing her degree she then became Principal of Fr. Gabriel Richard high school in Ann Arbor Michi-gan and later Principal of Gilmour Academy in Ohio. In 1990 Sister came to Central Washington University to teach Graduate students who were pursuing Princi-pal Certification for public and private schools. Throughout Sister’s teaching and administrative years in the US, she has been committed and involved in Catholic Campus Ministry in Michigan, Ohio and the State of Washington. Retiring from CWU in 2002 she presently is a contrib-uting member of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in El-

lensburg and the Yakima Diocese.

Many blessings to all fathers as we cele-brate Father’s Day. May the Lord help them to be good and loving role models to their children. May they receive the grace to be patient to handle stressful situations in a loving way.
