In October St. Andrew the Apostle will conduct our Baby Bottles for Life campaign to benefit, support and educate pregnant women facing crisis or unintended pregnancies. The funds collected through the Bottles for Life campaign support the programs and services of the Waterleaf Medical Clinic and Education and Resource Center in Aurora. Waterleaf provides practical help; pregnancy testing, ultrasounds, STD testing and treatment as well as continuing education and support for women in our community who would otherwise be at risk for choosing abortion. Last year with the support of churches like St. Andrew, Waterleaf provided 1,718 client appointments, performed 504 pregnancy tests, 563 ultrasounds and rescued 101 babies. Baby bottles will be distributed to parishioners on the weekend of Saturday, October 5th and Sunday, October 6th to take home and fill with spare change, cash, a check or a prayer. Bottles can be returned at any of the Masses through Sunday, October 20th. There will be a basket in the vestibule of Church where you can leave your baby bottle. Please make checks payable to Waterleaf. Your support is greatly appreciated. This fundraiser is a great way for each member of the family to help in building a Culture of Life. Thank you in advance for your response to the call of the Gospel to serve those in great need! May the Child Jesus, through the Immaculate Heart of His Mother, Mary, bless and protect you and your loved ones! For more information, call Waterleaf at 630-701-6270 or visit them on the web at www.onechoiceonelife.org.

Prayer for Priests

We thank you, God our Father, for those who have responded to your call to priestly ministry. Accept this

prayer we offer on their behalf: Fill your priests with the sure knowledge of your love. Open their hearts to the power and consola on of the Holy Spirit. Lead them to new depths of union with your Son. Increase in them profound faith in the Sacraments they celebrate as they nourish, strengthen

and heal us. Lord Jesus Christ, grant that these, your priests, may inspire us to strive for holiness by the power of their example, as

men of prayer who ponder your word and follow your will.

O Mary, Mother of Christ and our mother, guard with your maternal care these chosen ones, so dear to the Heart of

your Son. Intercede for our priests, that offering the Sacrifice of your Son, they may be conformed more each day to the image of your Son, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Amen.

Legion of Mary News

The Legion of Mary will once again be holding a candlelight rosary vigil during the month of October. These vigils will be held on Monday the 7th, 21st, and 28th. We will start at 7:00 PM and process around the grounds praying the rosary for your intentions. If you have a specific intention you would like us to pray for, a box will be in the narthex of the main church where you can drop them in. Please come out and join us. It’s a beautiful experience. If we encounter inclement weather, we will hold our vigil in the St. Francis room. On the 14th we will not have a rosary procession but, as always, we will pray the rosary at 8:00 PM when we hold our Holy Hour for Priests. Please come join us.

Statement of Bishop R. Daniel Conlon, Diocese of Joliet,

Regarding Discovery of Remains of over 2,000 Unborn Children

Like many others, I was horrified to learn about the discovery of the remains of over 2,000 unborn children at the home of a deceased abortionist in Crete, Illinois. Sadly, such an atrocious offense is an unavoidable consequence to treating life in the womb as non-human persons.

I have asked our staff in the Office of Human Dignity and Catholic Cemeteries to offer our assistance to authorities and other compassionate organizations in order to assure that these children are laid to rest with the peace and dignity that every human being deserves. I ask the people of the Diocese of Joliet to pray for these children, for their families, and for an end to abortion, once and for all. Most Reverend R. Daniel Conlon Bishop of Joliet

Diocese requirements include a formal engagement preparation period of at least six months before the date of the weddings and attendance in a marriage preparation program. St. Andrew requires either the bridge, groom, or parents of either to be registered as parishioners for at least three months before contacting us to set a date. There are a number of additional requirements. Please contact the Parish Office for additional information.

FUNERALS

Arrangements for a funeral are usually made through the Funeral Director at a funeral home of your choice.

PASTORAL CARE OF THE SICK

Hospitals do not inform churches when parishioners are patients. You should ask an immediate family member to contact the Parish Office to request a visit from a priest when sickness occurs or death is imminent. Please contact Barb Sanders to arrange for Communion to be brought to the sick at home, to a hospital, or nursing home.

I would like to have my house blessed.

Please contact me to make arrangements.

St. Andrew the Apostle We Care Food Pantry

The St. Andrew We Care Food Pantry is open every Wednesday from 10:00 am. until 12:30 p.m. for any eligible family in Romeoville in need of food assistance.

Our pantry is open only to Romeoville residents so proof of residency and an ID must be shown upon sign-in each week. If you are a parishioner of St. Andrew and you find yourself in need of food assistance, you are more than welcome to come to the We Care Food Pantry also. Proof of residency is a utility bill with your name and address on it plus your Driver’s License or State of Illinois ID. That must be brought in each time you come for food assistance.

The Pantry is located at 219 Arlington. For further information, please contact Shirley Grzenia at (630) 945-1317. This is the new phone number to call for food pantry inquiries and assistance. Thank you and God Bless.
