Dear People of

Ss. Peter & Paul, and Friends,

After more than three months of Lent and Easter, we return today to Sundays in “Ordinary Time.” We will be hearing from the Gospel of Saint Matthew for the rest of

the year, with the first reading intended to prepare us in some way for the day's Gospel. The second readings proceed through several of Saint Paul's letters. As we settle down to summer living, these next few Sundays focus on what it is like to be a missionary disciple. Let us pray to have hearts open to what the Lord is telling us.

LET US LISTEN TO THE WORD:

Disciples can expect to be confronted at any time by those who seek to harm them. We may not necessarily suffer the fate of modern-day martyrs in Asia and the Middle East, but we know well what we may face even here at home if we talk publicly about our faith. So what a comfort to hear Jesus tell us to not be afraid to proclaim our faith from the housetops; for even the hairs on our head are counted by God, Who loves us and sustains us!

QUESTION OF THE WEEK:

If you were to give public witness to God's action in your life, what is the worst that could happen to you? Is it anything that God can't or won't handle?

PASTOR'S COMMENTS:

COME TO THE FEAST OF SAINTS PETER & PAUL!

I cordially invite you to come to celebrate our Parish's Patronal Feast, and my 7th Year as your Pastor, on Thursday, June 29th: 8:00am Solemn Mass for The Solemnity of The Apostles, Saints Peter and Paul. Following the sung Mass, all are invited to share fellowship and a lite breakfast. Please bring something to pass.

Fr. Jon Thorsen ~ Our beloved Deacon Jon Thorsen, a “Son of the Parish” (kindly and generously shared with us by his dear parents), will be ordained to the Holy Catholic Priesthood on Saturday, July 1st. Later that day, Fr. Jon will offer his First Holy Mass – a Mass of Thanksgiving – here at our 4:00pm Vigil Mass. Details of our parish celebration can be found on page 2 of this weekend's Bulletin. Please keep Deacon Jon and his parents – Terry & Margo – all of the Thorsen Family, and all those being ordained Saturday, in your prayers this week and going forward.

Franciscan Sisters Update:

Four Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate Conception will be coming to our parish July 12th through August

14th. They come from Los Angeles, California. These missionary sisters speak both Spanish and English, and will be very visible at Masses and various events. The Sisters will be living in the rectory during their stay, and will be ministering to our Hispanic community in a variety of ways; teaching children and adults our Catholic Faith, helping in our Vacation Bible Camp, visiting the elderly, and building confidence in Hispanic lay ministry for our parish and diocese. I will introduce the Sisters to our parish family the weekend they arrive. When you see them either at weekday Masses or around the parish, please make them feel welcome; we are noted for our hospitality. May their time with us be a blessing for the entire parish community.

During the Sisters' time with us, Brother Austin and I will be living at St. Mary of the Angels Friars residence at 645 S. Irwin Avenue; July 10th through August 15th.

Fortnight For Freedom (June 21st ~ July 4th)

This year's Fortnight For Freedom began this past Wednesday. Let us continue to pray for our country and all elected officials to work united for the good of our people as we ready ourselves to celebrate the Fourth of July. Remember the old saying: "United we stand, divided we fall", In God we Trust, sweet land of liberty for all!

Annual Parish Picnic:

Remember, our parish volunteer teams are working hard behind the scenes to make this years annual picnic a success -- and a fun and safe time for all of us. As you can, please volunteer and help in any way. Simply call the parish office to see what is still needed. Save the date: Sunday, August 20th.

Have a good and safe week

Peace and all good

~ Fr. Tony Pastor First Saturday ~ July 1st Continuing our observance of the First Saturdays during this 100th Anniversary Year of the Apparitions of Our Blessed Mother to the Children at Fatima, the Church doors will open at 7:00am, Rosary & Confessions at 7:30am. Holy Mass will be at 8:00am, and will be followed immediately by Fatima Prayers & Devotions in Church.

Padre Tony
