THE L I TURGY
REFLECT AND RESPOND TO SCRIPTURE First Reading: Isaiah speaks of our redemption through the suffering of the Lord’s servant. When have you experienced God’s presence in your suffering?
Second Reading: Hebrews tells us that Jesus is able to sympathize with our weaknesses because he, too, “has been tested in every way.” What are some ways that you are tested in life?
Gospel: Jesus uses the request of James and John as a teachable moment for his disciples on the importance of humility and service to others. What other qualities do you think are necessary for true discipleship?
LIVE THE LITURGY It’s the positions of power and great authority that people often admire. We equate success with six figure incomes, high positions, management, and influence. We even go above and beyond to find favor with our bosses so that we can get a little extra recognition and maybe the next promotion when it comes up. This is the way of the world. Those who have their values set on earthly things are going to work by earthly rules. We forget that it doesn’t work that way in the Kingdom of God. Success is measured not from the place of status, influence, or prestige but from the place of humility, service, and sacrifice. The authority that one hopes to achieve is not an authority over others but an authority that comes from wisdom and developing one’s relationship with God. Jesus flips the tables on our priorities. Even the first disciples had a tough time understanding this. They really thought that they would somehow receive a privilege or bonus from being faithful. We often operate under that same illusion. ©LPi

Read Bishop Burns’ latest guidelines for the Diocese of Dallas at
cathdal.org
In light of the recent surge in COVID cases and concern about the spread of the Delta variant, Bishop Edward Burns has indefinitely postponed reinstating the requirement for Catholics to attend Mass in person in the Diocese of Dallas. Mass will still take place however the obligation to attend remains lifted. There is an expectation that masks will be worn out of charity for others, but parishes are not to single out or draw attention to those who are not wearing masks at Mass and other liturgical celebrations.

St. Jude Columbarium & Remembrance Garden
PARISH NEWS
Selecting a final resting place for our loved ones is an
important decision. It should be a place of remembrance and reflection. A peaceful setting, welcoming us to visit and honor our beloved departed with grace, compassion and comfort. St. Jude is expanding its columbarium for parish
members and their families, with plans to break ground in 2022 on new construction. The same design team that worked on the church’s bell tower has been selected to reimagine the columbarium’s resting space. New features include a central garden with a statue of the Good Shepherd as a focal point, and surrounding accent landscaping. The updated columbarium will include 300 additional niches accessible from four entry points, including St. Jude Chapel. This weekend after each Mass there will be a representative in the narthex to answer any questions you may have regarding the columbarium. You may also call the business office at ext. 2211 or Mary Boyle at ext. 2213
