Welcome to this week’s South Wagga Bulletin.
This week has been packed full of opportunities and achievement for the students.
On Tuesday, Kindergarten 2016 started their learning at South Wagga. I can honestly say that it was one of
the smoothest first days I have had with all students settling into their class quickly and very happy to be
starting school. The Kinder parents did a great job too with very few tears or distress from them as well.
The week also saw the election of our Sports Captains and Student Parliamentarians for 2016. I would like
to congratulate all the students that nominated for the student leadership positions and it was great to see
so many students willing to take on the various leadership roles within the school.
I would like to congratulate the following students who were elected Sports Captains: Tom Smith and Molly
Shepherd - Banksia, Milly Lucas and Charles Obst- Waratah and Blayne Linsell and Maisy Condon – Wattle.
I would also like to congratulate the following students on being elected to the Student Parliament for
2016: Saffy Robertson- Minister for Health, Jasper Adams & Fergus Russell- Ministers for Environment,
Hayden Cook- Minister for Safety, Will Sibrey- Minister for Education, Ben Kelly – Minister for Functions and
Maisy Condon Mister for Recreation.
On Wednesday there were a number of very happy Rugby Union supporters with the ACT Brumbies visiting
South Wagga. The players spoke with the students about their football careers, answered lots of excellent
questions and took the time to have their photos taken with the students. The players were very impressed
with the manners of the students throughout the assembly and the quality of the questions which they
asked.
The school Swimming Carnival on Thursday at the OASIS was another superb school event. The weather
was kind in that it was not too hot and as always there were lots of parents on hand to help the staff with
the smooth running of the carnival. Special thanks to Mr Brodie and Mrs Creasey for their efforts in
planning the Carnival and organising the day. Well done to all the staff for their work on the day in ensuring
that things moved smoothly and that the students had an enjoyable day.
In closing, I want to thank all the parents old and new who are setting a great example for their children by
crossing at the lights when arriving and departing the school. Also well done to all the parents who park
their cars away from the school and walk the extra 25 to 50 metres to collect their children. Our carpark is
not designed as a pick up and drop off point for students as it is too small and too congested for this to
happen safely.
Until next week Greg Smith
