We would like to invite our parents/carers and families into Open classrooms on Monday 27th July. Infants classrooms will be open 9.30am- 10.15am and Primary classrooms from 10.15am – 11.00am. This is a great opportunity to visit our amazing school and see the wonderful things happening in each classroom on a daily basis. It is an excellent opportunity for our community to view the fantastic upgrades which have occurred on both campuses. Our students will also be involved in additional activities as part of the Grafton Community of Schools. Fabulous artworks from the following students: Lily Vercoe, Jordan Pritchard, Ashton Reid, Tallara Taylor, Matthew Barker and Chelsea Berry are on display with other students’ work from our Community of Schools at a special exhibition at the Grafton Regional Art Gallery. This is to showcase the amazing talents of students within our Public Schools. The exhibit is currently open but these students will be attending the official opening next Tuesday 28th July at 11am. Throughout the week two of our students Kaydence Kilduff and Gypsy Barnier-Bondor will have prerecorded readings from their favourite book broadcast on Radio 2GF. Gypsy’s excerpt is from Crookedstar's Promise and Kaydence’s is from The Very Brave Bear. Listen out for them! This is also part of the Grafton Community of Schools celebration of Education Week. Our Primary Year 3 –Year 6 students are also invited to attend a disco with the theme Traffic Lights on Tuesday 28th July from 5.30pm - 7.00pm in the Vere Street hall. Cost per student will be $3 which will include a popper and packet of chips. As per our discipline policy only students who are making positive behaviour choices will be invited to attend. Parking: A reminder to all parents PLEASE do not park or pull up in BUS ZONES, and also please be respectful of our neighbours and DO NOT park over driveways in the mornings or afternoons. It is very frustrating for residents when people are parking in their driveways and they cannot access their homes. Thank you for your co-operation and consideration in these matters. The Infants Athletics Carnival will be held on Friday 7th August. Congratulations to Luke Marsh who has had his artwork hung in the New England Regional Art Museum as part of the 'Lets Hang it!' University of New England School Art Competition. Luke placed 2nd and received a $75 prize. Well done Luke! Congratulations also to Chelsea Berry and Maeve Giggins who have had their artwork hung in the New England Regional Art Museum Great job girls! Congratulations to our two debating teams who defeated Gulmarrad Public School on Tuesday. Public speaking is a fabulous skill to learn and our two debating teams have utilised their skills to win both these debates. Our thanks to Mrs Pope for coaching our teams. Our school is again participating in the ‘Jump Rope for Heart’ fundraising. This week Melissa from The Jump Rope for Heart organisation visited our school and spoke to students on both campuses about the program. Our skipping team also performed for both groups of students and showed their outstanding skills. The program supports students to develop a healthy lifestyle and promotes active play. Students yesterday also received sponsorship forms which can be completed manually or online. The fundraising will continue until mid August.

Congratulations to our netball team who defeated Westlawn in their PSSA knockout game last Thursday 20-10. Our team displayed excellent sportsmanship and skills throughout this match and now progress to the next round. Good luck to our team next Wednesday at Casino where they are participating in the Netball Association Northern Region Round 2 competition. Our thanks to Mrs Pope for coaching our team and our parents who support our team.

Have a great week Mr Peter Hickey Principal During the last two terms chess elimination games have been played at lunch times. Last term we played our finals. This has never happened before, after two games both Torin Leek and Dylan Barford could not be separated. Both are Co-Senior Champions. Our junior final was played between Tim Simpson and Brodie O’Hara. This was a great tactical game. But Tim was too strong. Tim Simpson – Junior Chess Champion.

We are participating in the Woolworth’s Earn and Learn Program again this year. We will be placing a box marked with our emblem outside Woolworths and another box will be at school. Every $10 spent at Woolworths you receive one sticker to be placed on a sticker sheet. When you have a completed sheet they can be placed in either box. We would appreciate your support. The more stickers we receive the more educational resources we will receive from Woolworths. Message from the Library re: BOOK CLUB As of Term 3, all Scholastic Book Club orders will only be done online by parents/ carers at home or at Library Cafe. Payment will need to be made by credit card and the office will no longer be accepting cash payment for orders. We hope this will simplify the ordering process and you continue to enjoy Book Club for South Grafton PS. Issue 5 leaflets and order forms have been sent home today with this newsletter and orders close on Monday 3rd August. Please note when ordering type SOUTH G and our school will come up as GRAFTON SOUTH at South Grafton.

Market Day 27th August. Please mark this date on your calendar. Donations can be left at the office of: second hand books and Jars for tombola and/or items to put in the jars. Plants and fruit/produce can be bought in on the morning. We will also need volunteers to help with cooking for the Cake Stall. If you are able to help please contact Naomi on 0408 642 151 or email [email protected]. Trays for cooking can be collected from the canteens and need to be clearly marked with ingredients. We will need many helpers on the stalls eg. BBQ, drinks, canteen, craft and cake stalls. If you can help out on the day please contact Kelly Vickers on 0419 162 075.

The LIBRARY CAFE is up and running again.

Everyone is welcome to visit the Library on Wednesdays from 3-4pm to use the computers, printer, photocopier and borrow & return books. We even have a selection of books in the Parents' Zone available for parents and carers to borrow, including parenting books and novels. See you there!
