Darlington Park Camp

Sixteen very excited students, selected from mainstream and Support Unit classes, spent last week at an

Independent Living and Fitness camp at Darlington Park. They enjoyed a very busy week of activity.

The highlights for nearly all of the children were a visit to “Springloaded”, the trampoline centre in Coffs, and the

swims in the resort pools. Students also did bushwalking, went on beach walks, and visited Muttonbird Island. The

boys and girls loved activities like the jumping pillow, pedal carts and arts and crafts, participated in team building

activities and worked on increasing their independent living skills by attempting things like making their own beds,

assisting with meals and helping with the clean-up after meals.

Thankyou to Miss McDonagh, Mrs Johnson, Mrs Craik, Miss Chris, Miss Niki, Miss Liz and Miss Jody for taking this

group away for this special opportunity.

Dear Parents and Carers,

Another school term draws to a close and we are now on the march towards Christmas, a pleasant

social time , yet, for some a financially challenging time. We will try our hardest to give plenty of

notice for an expenses which occur in Term 4 to help in the working of the family budget. There

will be end-of-year parties, excursions for Kinder and Year 1 and the P & C Christmas Fete on the

calendar, as well as a Family Portrait fundraiser, Yearbook orders and the Year 6 Farewell.

Last week our Independent Living Skills excursion returned from Darlington Park exhausted and

extremely happy. They had a ball! Walking up Mutton Bird Island, travelling to Sealy Lookout and

venturing out on the boardwalk, visiting the trampoline centre and much more including the giant

pillow games and beach walks. Our staff believe in making these excursions experiences which

extend and enrich our students lives and this, they achieved. My sincere thanks to Michelle

McDonagh, Lindy Johnson, Lindy Craick, Chris Reardon, Niki Martin, Liz Weller and Jody Duroux.

Last Friday our students participated in a number of local events. We had sixteen students

compete in the local Dudley Jones Tournament which we managed to retain for the eighth

consecutive year. To date we have won this trophy nineteen times in its history, a very special feat.

My thanks to Mr Howard Avery for stepping in and taking this squad as Mrs Avery was unavailable

due to illness.

We had sixty students compete in the T20 big bash with Mr Steve Lamb, Mr David McMahon and

Mr.Dion Donnelley accompanying our potential cricketers. Mrs Leigh Robertson and Mr Tim Keogh

accompanied our choir and golds band to Shopping world where we performed as part of Child

Protection Week. On Wednesday our football team played in the local Westlawn Cup Rugby League

knockout where we played three and won two games with Mitch Cachia being named ‘Most Valuable

Player’.

Your children are being provided with opportunities to participate in a rich and diverse educational

program here at Grafton Public. We can help inspire attitude as long as parents are inspiring

aspiration and supporting ambition.

This Friday, our Infants Campus students (Kinder and Year 1) will be wearing their pyjamas.

This is a fun reward for those who have been Gorgeous Grafton Public School STARS

throughout the term.

Have a pleasant and relaxing break. We start back on Tuesday 6th October as Monday the 5th is the

Labour Day holiday (long week-end).

Kind regards and stay safe,

Will Randall

T20 Milo Cricket

Last Friday, 56 students from Grafton Public journeyed to South Grafton to participate in the T20 Blast Cricket Gala

Day. A great time was had by all, with the students taking on schools from around the district. For many participants,

this was their first taste of the game, and it was a pleasure to witness their developing skills and confidence as the

day unfolded. Don't forget that cricket season is just around the corner, and information regarding this is readily

available from your local cricket club.

Planning is well underway for Kindergarten 2016, and the Kinder Kritters Orientation program has

started. Our next Kinder Kritters Sessions are early next term. If there are any little brothers and

sisters, friends or cousins who are starting “big school” next year, please call in to get forms as soon as

possible so that they can be a part of this program. Please spread the word to friends and neighbours

who may have pre-schoolers starting with us next year.

Dudley Jones Tennis

16 GPS students ventured to the Grafton City Tennis Courts last Friday to contest the annual competition to vie for

the coveted Dudley Jones Tennis Shield. Congratulations to all those students who played and represented GPS with

great sportsmanship. Well done to the team of Noah, Blake, Whitney and Lydia for becoming the victors of the day.

GPS has a distinguished accomplishment of winning the Dudley Jones Shield for 8 consecutive years. Well done team!

* Best of luck to Jack Brown, Lucas Westbury, Charlie Cutts and Lily West, who will be travelling to Maclean this

Thursday to take on the North Coast's finest spellers in the Regional Final of the Premier's Spelling Bee.

* The SRC are selling Legacy arm bands this week for $3 each. SRC members will be outside the library selling the

bands. Please support this worthy cause!

* Our next Deputy Principals and Principals Awards will be presented at ceremonies are tomorrow. Families of the

award recipients received letters last week and we look forward to seeing many proud family members here tomorrow

to support the deserving students.

* Due to the replacement of many of our computers within the school recently, we have been able to donated 35 of our

old computers to the local SORT program “Computers for Clarence Valley Kids”. SORT is a not-for-profit social

enterprise that aims to enhance recycling while also creating new jobs for disadvantaged job-seekers. SORT workers

check and disassemble the computers before reviewing and refurbishing them so they can be used by local families.

We have been pleased and proud to be able to support this initiative.

Brief But Important

Last Wednesday the Grafton Public School Rugby League team participated in the Westlawn Cup Rugby League Gala

Day. Our first match was against Small Schools which we won 24-8. We then went on to play Maclean Public School.

The boys showed plenty of pride and passion but unfortunately went down 16-8. In our final game (for third place

overall) we played Westlawn and won convincingly! Well done to all the boys for a fabulous day and a big

congratulations to Mitchell Cachia who was announced player of the series!

The Northern NSW Local Health District would like to remind parents and carers

that the Child Oral Health Service offers FREE dental care to ALL children under 18.

* Oral health is essential for health and wellbeing. * It is recommended that children have regular dental check ups starting at 1 year.

* Regular dental check ups can prevent minor problems becoming major ones and prevent unnecessary pain and

distress.

* Dental visits can be fun for kids, treat these visits as normal, routine events so as not to develop fear.
