Last Thursday we held our Crazy Hair Day, which was a
fundraiser for The World’s Greatest Shave. We supported
the Jerrett family; Mum, Dad and Kyran are shaving their
heads and Taj, Eli and Mia are colouring their hair. We
raised over $400 for the Leukaemia Foundation. The school
is proud to support our families in such great adventures. We
would like to thank parents/caregivers for their amazing
support. The hair creations were truly works of art. It was a
fun day which was enjoyed by all: pupils, staff and especially
our lovely office
ladies. Our
thanks to Mr
Watson for
organising this
event.
On Thursday 27 March we will be celebrating Grandparents Day at BOTH campuses. This is a wonderful day for our
students to celebrate with their grandparents and we are
looking forward to having a large number of visitors to our
school. This year we are inviting our grandparents to our
Primary Campus as well as the Infant’s Campus. See attached note.
Next week is National Anti-Bullying Week and on Friday we
will be recognising National Anti-Bullying Day. Our school
does not accept bullying of any type and we are very
proactive in dealing with any of these issues. Our student
discipline policy outlines our dedication to this task very
clearly. If you have any concerns re: bullying please contact
us immediately and we will follow it up straight way. South
Grafton Public School is a BULLY FREE ZONE.
Next week is also PRIDE Leadership week at our school for
our Year 6 students. Students will be involved in a number of
activities to support their leadership skills. On Wednesday
we have the Mayor Richie Williamson visiting our school to
deliver a leadership speech to our students, and we also
have Interrelate visiting to deliver team building workshops.
Our thanks to Mr Zacek for organising this week and our
staff who are leading a number of workshops as part of this
program.
The Kilometre club is up and running....or walking if you prefer. After participating in a Live Life Well Program in Lismore, Mrs Pope and Ms Storm were energised to activate and motivate more children to move. Both Infants and Primary campuses are now operating a Kilometre club. Students are encouraged to walk or run a track, as often as they want. Students simply pick up a marker on completion of a loop and at the end of play time tally their markers and record it on a class chart. At the end of term the distance will be recorded to see how far they have walked/run. Mrs Pope was very excited at the end of the first session with some children walking and running over 2km in a lunch break..... some were having a chat with their mates; others were going for distance training for cross country and others just joined in for a lap or two. I wonder who will be the first to reach Coffs Harbour???

University is mostly just for young people and school leavers. Once you pass this particular time in your life, it’s generally too
late for you to come back to university and study.
False - Actually, many university students who apply through the alternative entry processes are not recent school leavers. They are often people who’ve gained life experience either in the work force, travelled or working as parents and carers of
family. University is for everyone. Come to the STELLAR Family Event to find out how you and your family can get to
university. Wednesday 26 March 5:30pm – 6:30pm

Camelia Cottage is beginning a Tutoring and Homework Program on Wednesdays at 3.30 til 5pm. The Tutoring and Homework Program is an after school educational enrichment program for primary students who live in South Grafton/Grafton areas. This after school tutoring program provides free tutoring sessions for students who need one-on-one help with their homework and assignments and targets our underachievers whom we often lose due to lack of success. This provides students with an opportunity to do homework, use computers, get help and/or study in a pleasant, well supervised environment run by a qualified teacher and volunteers. For more information phone Kym 0439 319 536 or camellia cottage on 6643 1566. Camelia Cottage is situated at 3 Camelia Way, South Grafton and all are welcome.

Develop strategies of self care.
Standing Strong
The Family Relationship Skills Program is funded by the federal government and aims to reduce the levels of stress experienced within families. Group Facilitators work from a strength based model. Workshops provide an opportunity to
• reflect on experiences;
• be heard and responded to;
• learn from others;
• attend to isolation; and
• develop new skills. The program operates across the Clarence, Bellingen and Nambucca Valleys, and the Coffs Harbour local government area. Program Facilitators acknowledge the Bundjalung, Gumbaynggirr and Yaegl people, traditional owners of the land in which we work.
