    Formed in 1993 as a merger of five schools, Essendon Keilor College has had its share of impressive achievements over that time. We are well known for the high quality of our performing arts and football programs.

    However, the college is a leading school in the western suburbs on several other fronts as well. A driving theme is the need for our students to have a strong global focus in their education.

    This year our students have visited Japan and Italy, where we have sister schools, and hosted a visit from our Vietnamese sister school. Each year more than 50 international students study at the college, coming from China, Vietnam and many

    other countries, to complete their VCE.In 2014, our year 10 students will be

    moving to the senior campus in Essendon. This will provide them with the opportunity to study the VCE and develop a three-year pathway to further education and training.

    Our two junior campuses will specialise in years 7 to 9 with innovative programs specifically tailored for those students.

    Essendon Keilor College offers VCE, VET and VCAL courses and provides a wide range of pathways. Our global focus demands of students that they think about the place of Australia in the world so that they can make a positive contribution as future members of the community. \

    I try to instill into our students the meaning behind our school motto Excellentia Academica Persequenda the pursuit of academic excellence. However, as educators it is more than academia which we must teach our students; it is to be global citizens with an understanding of all aspects of the world.     You dont necessarily have to wait for an auction to buy if youre certain its the right property. One

    for amended terms. At least this way you can gauge the level of interest and the degree of competition

    by the seller and their agents reaction. If you ask for a longer settlement, for instance, and the seller

    refuses it might indicate there is strong interest. On the other hand, if they readily agree, you may be

    in a stronger position to negotiate further. If you are interested in a sale, purchase or lease, feel free

    When, in 1984, a local architect designed Caelum (Latin for heavenly vault) he put a little of his native Canada into it. A symbol of a Canadian native

    American tribe is subtly inscribed on kitchen wall tiles, and the use of richly stained timber, vaulted ceilings, exposed beams and bricks, wall shingles and multi-paned windows speaks of late colonial times.

    There are few cars in these uber cautious, cookie-cutter days that leave you smiling. These are the ones that are

    genuine fun to drive, that make you feel good and give you the idea youre a better driver than you are. Mazdas MX5 is one. I also fondly recall getting sideways in Hondas S2000 and a magic cold winter morning in the Otways in a Cobra.

    Now theres Peugeots 208 GTi. What a fantastic little car this is. Slide in and feel the seat cuddle up, absolutely one of the most comfortable seats in the biz. Notice the tiny steering wheel and the six-speed manual shift. No auto available. And all the red highlights theres even a slim red stripe running along the length of the seatbelts. This has to be about the sportiest cabin this side of $300,000 and its nicely fitted and finished too.

    But its in the driving where the GTi comes together. If youre not thoroughly into the act of driving it will be totally wasted on you but if you are, well its about the best thing you can have short of a traffic-free drive through the Italian Alps in someone elses Lotus.

    The controls are direct and fast. The steering, although light enough to park with ease, is beautifully in touch and pin sharp. The gearbox is fantastic. You can shift so fast from second to third, always the acid test of a sporty manual, that youll get a chirp. Second gear is good for 100km/h, making the acceleration time to that speed truly

    impressive. I was doing easy sub-eight-second times straight off the bat.

    The motor is just sublime. Its a 1.6 that thrives on revs and dearly loves to be held up high on the tachometer so the turbo is always on steam, but whats truly impressive is the torque.

    Floor it in a higher gear and, after a little collecting of itself, it charges up the rev range

    and youre gone. Despite all this, the economy is great. Forget the hot little Volkswagens and Fords and all those others, this is the one. It even gets a full-size spare on an alloy wheel.

    My better and more practical half borrowed it to go to the shops and when she came back she was grinning. I love that car, she said. I just love it. \
