Shelby Township Library www.libcoop.net/shelby 41 eContent What is eContent? The term eContent is used to describe Library material available in electronic formats. eContent is a very broad term. For example, eBooks can take the form of downloadable text or audio and each one of those formats has many different electronic le types. Each le type is designed to be used with specic software and may or may not be compatible with different hardware. Confused yet? It gets more complicated. Each eContent publisher has policies governing the use of their copyrighted eContent. These polices are laid out by the End User License Agreement (EULA). The EULA describes in detail how users can and cannot use that publisher’s eContent. These agreements vary by publisher and determine whether or not eContent can be shared and how it may be shared. The EULA policies are enforced by Digital Rights Management software (DRM). Each eBook Reader or Audio Player has its own proprietary DRM scheme. Companies use DRM to control what le types can and cannot be played on their hardware. So, with eContent there are many variables that contribute to what is available and whether or not it is compatible with a device you may own. This makes providing eContent very difcult for libraries and often frustrating for people to use. Please understand that despite the complexities of eContent, the Shelby Township Library does recognize that providing eContent is quickly becoming an expected service of the modern day library. To that end I am committed to bringing it to the Library despite the many challenges. eContentWhat is eContent?

The term eContent is used to describe Library material available in electronic formats. eContent is a very broad term. For example, eBooks can take the form of downloadable text or audio and each one of those formats has many different electronic fi le types. Each fi le type is designed to be used with specifi c software and may or may not be compatible with different hardware.

Companies use DRM to control what fi le types can and cannot be played on their hardware.

So, with eContent there are many variables that contribute to what is available and whether or not it is compatible with a device you may own. This makes providing eContent very diffi cult for libraries and often frustrating for people to use.

Please understand that despite the complexities of eContent, the Shelby Township Library does recognize that providing eContent is quickly becoming an expected service of the modern day library. To that end I am committed to bringing it to the Library despite the many challenges.

I’ll see you @ the Library.

Perennial Swap VIISaturday, May 218:30 am - 10:30 amHeld in the Library parking lot.RAIN or SHINE!

Plant swaps are a great way to share plants that have overgrown their spaces. This is a wonderful opportunity to share your passion for gardening, meet other gardeners from the area, have coffee and donuts, and acquire some new perennials. If you are a new gardener, don’t be afraid to come without anything to trade. We expect that there will be many plants to share.
