ANXIETY AND PANIC ATTACKS IN SENIORS

From the website of Dr. Jeannette Franks, PhD

We all experience anxiety-worrying about thefuture is part of being human and helps us plan ahead and make better decisions. Some anxiety is normal and even productive. How-ever, when anxiety becomes disruptive anddisabling to a person’s life, it is consideredunhealthy.

As many as one quarter of all people experi-ence anxiety to an unhealthy extent, andolder people can be at particular risk. Seniorsmay experience more troublesome anxiety than other age groups for several reasons, they experience more losses, suffer morepain and chronic conditions, are often onmultiple meds that might increase anxiety.

Don’t be hesitant about discussing this prob-lem with your family and doctor. Sometimes talking about it, in itself helps. There are medications to help control the symptoms.

Remember if you suffer from anxiety, you arenot alone.

MEDICARE PART DMacomb Social Services will present informa-tion on Medicare Part D at the Senior Centeron Wednesday, September 5 at 11:00 a.m.You should find this presentation informativeand helpful in making decisions about yourprescription drugs.

RULES OF TRAVEL (READ CAREFULLY)

You must be a member of the Shelby Senior Center to trav-el with us. The balance on overnight trips is due at least one month in advance of departing date, Trip refunds are subject to a $7.00 cancellation fee, plus costs incurred. All refunds are given in the form of a check or household credit. Day and extended trip refunds are based on the travel company’s refunds from suppliers, or subject to re-fund policy on the trip flyer. Refunds take approximately 3 to 4 weeks, and the check will be mailed to you from the Treasurer’s Office. No refund checks will be issued if the amount due after the cancellation fee is less than $10.00. Any remaining amount will be credited to your household account and may be used for any upcoming activity. Trips depart from the Senior Center. Park on the east side of the lot, behind the library, near the dumpster. Please do not park in spaces near the building or court. Buses depart on time. For all trips originating with outside travel compa-nies such as Big Daddy, Shoreline Tours etc., the Shelby Senior Center will act solely as a booking agent. It will be the passenger’s responsibility to board the bus on time. If a passenger needs to leave the bus departure site, it is their responsibility
