Service-Learning
TIMESSemester 2 2020/21
Service-LearningAn adventure that will help you change the world
Do you want to do something good for the
community, apply what you have learned in your
university courses, and gain practical skills that will
benefit you for the rest of your life?
Service-Learning (S-L) offers you the opportunity
to do all of these things by connecting
academic knowledge to meaningful community
projects. It is an adventure that will teach you how
to make an impact on the world you live in.
For example, Lingnan students have created an
impact in their S-L projects in previous semesters
by:
* Disinfect subdivided flats to combat COVID-19
using UV-light technology (check out a video on
this project here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ck1Gfn0utb8)
* Building an affordable air-purifier for the
underprivileged in Hong Kong
* Organizing an environmental awareness
campaign in Hong Kong’s Ocean Park
* Creating an international travel guide book for
active and adventurous Hong Kong elders
* Designing creative solutions to toilet hygiene
problems in Yuen Long and Tuen Mun
* Helping migrant workers with young babies and
children to deal with legal issues
* Inventing an affordable device that transforms any type of wheelchair into an electric one
Apart from providing research opportunities
in S-L projects, innovation
and entrepreneurship have also become
an important component in the SLRS. Liberal
arts education appreciates synergy
between humanities and technology. You
will be equipped with a set of tools to
integrate innovative elements in planning
your S-L projects, tools that will greatly benefit
you in your future professional career as well. In
Semester 1, Lingnan Entrepreneurship
Initiative (LEI) will organize two bootcamps on
startups in October, followed by a Startup
Weekend on climate action in November.
More information can be found here:
https://www.ln.edu.hk/lei
During the current COVID-19 situation, Service-Learning at Lingnan is still going strong. Projects will ensure safety of students and participants by way of innovative project design, such as digital service and online project coordination.
This booklet highlights the courses with S-L elements in this semester. If you want to choose what kind of S-L adventure you want to go on, you should plan and act quickly while places are available.
Grasp the S-L Opportunities Today. Be the Change You Want to See in the World.
