Low Vision Support Group The next meeting of the Low Vision Support Group will be held on Wednesday, October 20th from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. Janet Ander-son-Hsieh will speak about lighting options for people with low vision. To enter the meeting, please call (712) 432-5610. After you hear the prompt for the access code, please enter 782 followed by the # sign. If you have any questions, please call Janet at 292-8882. All are welcome.

Alzheimer’s Walk—Sat, 10/16 Join Team Heartwood House to show our support for our residents and their families. To register to walk, go to alz.org and choose Team Heartwood House. There will be an opportunity to order a Northcrest shirt, though purchasing a shirt or making a donation is not required to participate. Sat, Oct 16, Bus at 8:00 am.

United Way Day of Caring Thank you to the volunteers from 3-M that are coming to the NC Campus to help with gardening tasks as part of the United Way Day of Caring on Sept 24.

Memory Cafe Memory Cafe, a socialization and support opportunity for persons with memory issues and their caregivers, will resume on the 4th Monday of the month. Mon, Sept 27, 3 to 4:30, Northminster Presbyterian Church, 1416 20th St.

We've added two containers for yard waste in the enclosure next to the east garbage dumpster. One will be for yard waste and one will be for soil/dirt material. Please throw any gar-bage in the adjacent dumpster.

NC Library Reminders With our larger population, more books are being checked out of the Main Building Library. Please follow these guidelines: NC Library Items: Find the check-out card attached to the item, fill in the date and your name. Place the card in the small box on the shelf in ei-ther Atrium E or in the Library Room. Ames Public Library books on loan: Fill in date, title, and your name on the le-gal pad that rests on the shelf with these books. (Special tape marks these shelves.) Return: Please return Northcrest and Ames Library items to the plastic container in the Library Room promptly so others may enjoy them. Donations: Place items you wish to donate above the Donations sign on the small wood stand. Need Help? Ask a member of the Library Committee or Marilyn Green, Chair.

Northcrest Sunday Series Director Keith Abraham will be giving an up-date on Parks and Recreation programs, facilities, and projects. They manage 38 parks, five facilities, over 180 programs, and three cemeteries! He’ll discuss recent-ly completed, current, and future projects, which include the Indoor Aquatic Center, Downtown Plaza, Adaptive Kayak Launch, Fishing Pier renovations, and park develop-ment. Keith says Parks & Rec has a lot go-ing on, and he promises a jam packed hour! Sun, Oct 3, 7:00 pm, Grand Room.

Lake Wobegon Band The Lake Wobegon Brass Band will perform at the Ames City Auditorium on Sun, Oct 3, 2 pm. Polly Gilbert & Lee Smithson are sponsors of this fundraiser and have tickets. No Bus.

A Stroll for Well-Being Enjoy the fall weather with a 45 minute guided stroll around NC Campus. A stroll designates places to pause and focus on being present in the moment, reflect on a quote or move with purpose. Join in the in-augural one on Thu, Sept 30, 10:00 am. Meet at the 1801 Door.

Northcrest Food Drive The Employee Champions Committee thanks all who donated non-perishable items to the Food Drive. Between our resi-dents and staff, we gave 260 items to Food at First who supports so many needy people!!

Environmental Services, House-keeping, & Assisted Living Week Officially, last week was the time to honor these groups, but it is never too late to say Thank You to those housekeepers, mainte-nance folks and those who live and work in Assisted Living! Gratitude is never late!
