Snowfall Contest!! Be sure to submit up to 2 guesses for the date of the First Snowfall (after November 1!) All guesses must be in by Tue, Nov 6 at mid-night! A grand prize will be won by the lucky guesser when we have 1” of snow as report-ed by the Ames Tribune.

United Way Drive Although the current total is “fluid” (??!?), we are over $30,000, on our way to our goal of $31,500. Shall we? Can we? Will we???

Family Night The Iowa Food Bank incoming Executive Director, Lynda Gorko, will tell us about the seven regional food banks that serve Iowans who are not food sufficient. Lynda has been the director of the Central Iowa Food Bank located in Hiawatha, IA, where they receive 7 million tons of food annually. Two local programs, the Bethesda Food Pantry and Food at First receive from the Food Bank of Iowa located in Des Moines. Come & Learn! Sun, Nov 4, 7:15 pm.

Election Day There will be a bus for voting at Bethesda Lutheran Church on Tue, Nov 6, 10:30 am.

AARP Safe Driving Class We are hosting an AARP class here at Northcrest with Stu Huntington. It addresses changes that affect our driving such as new vehicles & technologies, our changing bod-ies, and strategies to apply now and in the future. AARP member fee is $15, non-members are $20; fees paid to AARP at beginning of class. Thu, Nov 15, 1-5 pm, GR. Sign up at the Front Desk.

ISU Environmental Club The ISU students from the Environmen-tal Club are going to visit on Sun, Nov 11. They will talk about (and show) what they call “(Not So) Freaky Species”. They will exhibit live creatures as well as photographs. Come see something curious—3:00 pm, GR.

Lobby Newspapers It has been noticed that the newspapers from the Front Desk have disappeared some afternoons or evenings. They are there for everyone’s enjoyment to read in the front sit-ting area. Please refrain from removing them until at least 8:45 pm.

Ames High Sports Pass Northcrest has an ALL SPORTS PASS for Ames High sporting events, available at the Front Desk; first come, first serve basis. Check it out & return it after the event!

Veterans’ Day Reminder Plan to come to a special tribute for our veterans on Mon, Nov 12, 10:00 am. Norma Ricketts will share a presentation titled “The Navy, Nimitz and Norma.” It fo-cuses on her correspondence with four star Admiral Chester Nimitz from the mid 40’s un-til he died in 1966. Admiral Nimitz lead the US Navy during WWII and took over opera-tions in Hawaii after the Pearl Harbor bomb-ing. Students from Fellows School will also join us to honor our veterans. ***For new residents, if you served in the Armed Forces and have a photo of yourself, please bring it to the Front Desk so we can make a copy. We’d like a full collection to post! Thank you for those already submitted.
