From 2002, the head of the conservation department in Den Gamle By, Karen Woer has been the first conservator with special responsibility for textiles. Her employment gave a welcome boost to the large collec- tion of historical dress and textiles of the museum. This seminar will focus on different aspects of textile conservation, from restoration and the invention of new techniques to the mounting of historical dress and textiles for exhibition. Regarding research, collecting and exhibition, the collection of dress and textiles has had special attention from the very founding of Den Gamle By, 1909. Until 2018, just four curators have had special responsibility for this special collection. In the 1920s, an important increase of the collection occurred. From 1860 until the 1920s, the local Aarhus Museum existed and from the very start, all sorts of items were collected including historical dress and textiles. In 1926, the historical items were incorporated in the collections of Den Gamle By. 10:00-10:30: Registration.
