Well done to these students! You can read more about their success in this newsletter. Our P&C were busy feeding the community at the rodeo and will be putting out the call for assistance over the next few weeks as they cater for a number of Horse Festival events. Please consider helping, even for just an hour, as the P&C are a small but very proactive and positive group who are working hard to raise money that will benefit all students. Please check the P&C Facebook page to see the events coming up and where you can help out. Congratulations to all the students who participated in the Netball, Basketball and Rugby League sporting competitions last week. It is great to hear from the coaches and managers that our students are enjoying their games and showing great sportsmanship. Last week our school hosted Principals and teachers from the Northern Beaches network in Sydney as well as some from the Upper Hunter. We are part of an exciting initiative with these schools working with leading researcher-educator Lyn Sharrett from Canada. Our ‘Learning Walks’ allow us as leaders to capture what is happening in the classrooms to guide professional learning for our teachers and to reflect on school practices. I would like to thank the teachers for welcoming these visitors to their classrooms. PSSA BOYS BASKETBALL KNOCKOUT COMPETITION Last Tuesday our basketball team played their first game of the season against

Aberdeen at Aberdeen Public School. It was a perfect day and we were lucky to

have a crowd as several classes came to watch the game. The game was fast and

the competition fierce; the Aberdeen team were not as experienced as our team, but

certainly gave their all in defence and put up some great shots. After the first quarter

our boys settled into their game and secured a victory. The score was 30-9 and we

appreciated a challenging game to start the competition.

The Aberdeen Public School principal, Corallee Kerrigan, complimented our boys at

the end of the game and said she was impressed with their sportsmanlike behaviour.

It is always wonderful to receive positive feedback when we are out representing

our school, so this topped the day off perfectly.

Our team will move on to the next stage and we look forward to having a full squad

for that game. Well done to all our boys.

SCONE & DISTRICT SCHOOL HORSE SPORTS

On Friday 30 April, three students from Scone Public School competed in the Scone and District School Horse Sports. All three students had a fabulous day coming home with lots of ribbons and new friendships. Congratulations to Truman B (3M) who was awarded the Age Reserve Champion for his age group.

MOTHER’S DAY STALL THIS THURSDAY The Mother’s Day stall will be held this Thursday for students to purchase gifts. All gifts will be $5. Students wishing to visit the stall will be taken in their class groups on Thursday only. If students are away or unable to purchase on this day, the stall will also operate at lunch break on Friday. Please note students will not be taken in class groups on this day. Students should also bring a carry bag to hold their purchase. We are seeking volunteers to enable the stall to proceed on both Thursday and Friday. If you are available to help on either of these days please contact the school office for further information.

Library Bags

Remember if you would like your child to bring library books home they must have a suitable library bag for

protection. They must also not have any outstanding overdue books.

Overdue Books

If you cannot locate an overdue book, or know that it has been lost or damaged beyond repair, we ask that you

please pay the replacement cost. Money can be returned to Mrs Cheshire who will issue with a receipt.

Scholastic Book Club Rewards was created as a form of currency as a way

to give back to schools for participating in Book Club throughout the year.

Every time a SPS family purchases a book, the school is rewarded with

points. The school then redeems the rewards by adding more quality books

and learning material to our library.

Issue 1 of Book Club 2021 has been sent home with students this week.

SPS is working towards 100% online book club orders. We are encouraging parents to place their orders online

at scholastic.com.au/loop or by using the LOOP app, which can be downloaded from the App Store or

Google Play.

Alternatively, you can send the order form along with the correct money to your classroom teacher on the due

date. Orders are due by THURSDAY 6 May 2021.

If you have any questions regarding this or require help to place an order, please speak to Mrs Cheshire.

WELLBEING WEEK Wellbeing Week will again be held in

Week 6 of this term. Parents and carers

are invited to join us for the morning

activities on Monday, Wednesday and

Friday from 8.45am to 9.10am. Please

see the following schedule for the fun

Term 2 Week 3 Monday 3 May 2021

NAPLAN Online 2021 The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is a point in time assessment of literacy and numeracy skills that are essential for every child to progress through school and life. Students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 participate in the annual NAPLAN tests in writing, reading, conventions of language (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy. Our school will be participating in NAPLAN Online between 11 and 21 May 2021. In preparation for NAPLAN Online, our school will also be participating in practice tests between 22 March and 1 April. The practice test is a trial-run and key preparation activity for NAPLAN Online in May. It is not an assessment of student ability and the tests will not be marked. Excessive preparation for NAPLAN Online is not recommended. Students can use the public demonstration site (https://www.nap.edu.au/online-assessment/public-demonstration-site) to familiarise themselves with the types of questions and tools available in the NAPLAN Online tests. If you have any questions about NAPLAN Online, please contact your child’s teacher.
