Dear Parishioners and Friends of St. Lucie:

We are happy to share the fourth edition of our parish directory, the 2020 Ministry Directory! As you will soon see, it is filled with the information we published for the last three years, with updates and additions where necessary, all the information that will help you appreciate the wonderful service and care we at St. Lucie provide to each other and to our brothers and sisters beyond our parish boundaries.

With so many parishioners and so many activities, you don’t always realize the scope of activity that takes place at a parish like St. Lucie. We have hundreds and hundreds of volunteers who work and minister every day here on our parish grounds and far beyond. It’s a great witness of faith. If you are looking for a ministry or activity to join, this book is just what you are looking for. Take some time to read through it and contact the ministry leader to find out more about a particular ministry, and then join your fellow parishioners. A secondary benefit of parish ministry participation is that you also meet new people who quickly become new friends.

We owe a great debt of gratitude to Annette DeLuca, our Office Manager, for compiling all this information, and keeping it current, and to our advertisers for making its publication possible.

Let us continue to pray, minister, and enjoy each other’s companionship, as we continue to make St. Lucie the great parish that it is, because of you!

    Sincerely,

Fr. Mark A. Szanyi, OFM Conv., Pastor

About Franciscan Friars Conventual Our priests are Conventual Franciscan Friars, part of the world-wide Franciscan family founded by St. Francis of Assisi in 13th century Italy. Their Provincial house, Our Lady of the Angels, is located in Ellicott City, Maryland, and is part of a larger entity that runs from Maine to Florida, and includes ministries where the friars serve in Ontario Canada, the Eastern Seaboard of the United States, Italy, Costa Rica, Brazil, Great Britain and Ireland. This growing worldwide-fraternity of Roman Catholic men follow the Gospel of Jesus Christ in the spirit of their founder, St. Francis of Assisi. Franciscans are called to live in community, to be prayerful, and to minister to the people of God. Like all Catholic priests, they take vows of chastity and obedience but also adhere to a vow of poverty. Throughout its over eight hundred year history, the Franciscan order has generously responded to the Church’s call to minister to the poor and those in need. In our Diocese of Palm Beach, we are one of two churches run by Franciscan Friars Conventual, approved and contracted by our Most Reverend Bishop Gerald M. Barbarito.

    St. Lucie Parish Deacons

A deacon is an ordained minister in the Catholic Church and a member of the clergy. All ordained ministers in the Church are consecrated for ministers of Word, liturgy, and charity. Deacons proclaim the Gospel, preach, and teach in the name of the Church. As ministers of the sacred liturgy, deacons baptize, lead the faithful in prayer, witness marriages, and conduct wake and funeral services. As ministers of charity, deacons are leaders in identifying the needs of others, then marshaling the Church’s resources to meet those needs.
