Today is Gaudete Sunday, the Third Sunday of Advent and the halfway point of the Advent Season. The word of God today reminds us to rejoice in the Lord always. As we look forward to His coming again, we rejoice
because He came among us as a man over 2,000 years ago and He is still with us. Today, His presence can be somewhat hidden because of all the distractions in our world and in our lives. Through prayer and the sacraments, we can see Him more clearly if we take the time to look with our eyes and our hearts. The more we are aware of His first coming, which we celebrate at Christmas, the better we will be prepared to welcome Him when He comes again. The days of Advent are growing shorter, but there is still time to make this a truly holy season by preparing our hearts for the Lord Jesus to enter. There are still opportunities to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation this week. Please check the bulletin for dates and times. You may also want to go to Mass an extra time during the week, or take some time to view daily Mass from our parish website or Facebook page, or spend some time in the Chapel of Divine Mercy. You can also call your family to prayer at home by saying the family Rosary. You can start by just saying it once a week and then gradually add an extra day from time to time until you are saying the Rosary each day as a family. A family could not spend fifteen minutes of time in a better way than by praying the Rosary. We are very grateful to all those who participated in WE GIVE CATHOLIC on Tuesday, December 1. We were able to raise some $25,000.00 for the school and around $3,000.00 for the parish. These generous donations will be a great help to us, especially during this time of the pandemic. I am also grateful to Mary Gegick, who has been most helpful in organizing this special day of giving. May God bless all of you for your generosity and kindness to our parish family. Christmas will soon be here, and a very important part of our celebration of the Birth of Jesus is the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. To participate in the Mass is a great act of worship on our part, as we offer ourselves in union with Jesus offering Himself on the cross to the Father. Of course, this year offers us a whole different approach to this very intimate time we are called to spend with Jesus at Christmas. The Mass schedule for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day will be the same except that there will no longer be Mass at Midnight; it will be at 10 PM instead. So Masses will be: Christmas Eve at 4 PM, 6:30 PM, and 10 PM; Christmas Day at 8 AM and 11 AM. As most people know, the 4 PM Mass on Christmas Eve is always the most crowded, and then the 6:30 PM Mass. The rest of the Masses are not very crowded at all. I have no idea what the crowds will be like this year, but we only have so much room with the social distancing in place. It is a very difficult thing to even try to estimate, let alone regulate. I ask that you please consider all the options and try to really place Jesus at the center of your planning and not just your own convenience. Please note that the 4 PM Mass will be live streamed and can be viewed at that time or any time thereafter. May we all try to place Jesus at the center of Christmas where He truly belongs. As we all know, there is much talk about the vaccine for the Covid-19 virus. Several pharmaceutical companies have come up with various vaccines that have been tested and seem to be very effective. Some of these vaccines will be available in a matter of days. Along with the vaccines come many questions concerning how they are made and what exactly is in them. One of our major concerns as Christians should be whether or not aborted fetal tissue was used. How would the use of such tissue have anything to do with our cooperation in the grave sin of abortion if we choose to receive the vaccine? In the bulletin today you will find an insert that may help us to understand what our responsibilities are in such a situation. Please take the time to read over the material issued by the diocese and share with others who may have the same concerns.
SACRED HEART WADSWORTH, OHIO
St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle, be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him we humbly pray; and do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God, cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.
THIRD SUNDAY OF ADVENT DECEMBER 13, 2020
READINGS FOR THE WEEK OF DECEMBER 14, 2020
A man named John was sent from God. He came for testimony, to testify to the light, so that all might believe through him. He was not the light, but came to testify to the light. And this is the testimony of John. When the Jews from Jerusalem sent priests and Levites to him to ask him, “Who are you?” He admitted and did not deny it, but admitted, “I am not the Christ.” So they asked him, “What are you then? Are you Elijah?” And he said, “I am not.” “Are you the Prophet?” He answered, “No.” So they said to him, “Who are you, so we can give an answer to those who sent us? What do you have to say for yourself?” He said: “I am the voice of one crying out in the desert, ’make straight the way of the Lord,’ as Isaiah the prophet said.” Some Pharisees were also sent. They asked him, ”Why then do you baptize if you are not the Christ or Elijah or the Prophet?” John answered them, “I baptize with water, but there is one among you whom you do not recognize, the one who is coming after me, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to untie.” This happened in Bethany across the Jordan, where John was baptizing.

An Act of Spiritual Communion My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You.

WHAT IS OPLATKI? Polish, Slovak, and Lithuanian background families originally observed this Christmas tradition, but it has become a tender, touching family celebration of love and forgiveness for all families. Oplatki wafers [a thin Communion-like wafer stamped with a Christmas scene] are shared right before the Christmas Eve meal. The entire family gathers around the table and the eldest family member begins the ritual. The Oplatki is passed from person to person along with a wish and a kiss, symbolizing the giving and sharing in our lives. OPLATKI [Angel Bread] will be available for donation at the East entrance to the church December 12/13 and 19/20. Please leave your donation in the red bag provided. During the week between, the Oplatki and red bag will be in the Chapel, or you can pick it up at the Parish Office Mon-Fri, 9am-12pm and 1pm-4pm.
