To Residents of Rocky Top that receive mail delivery at their residence:
Did anyone bite you at work today?
On average, nearly 15 mail carriers per day will say, “Yes.”
Postal Service officials report that in 2018, 5,714 letter carriersexperienced dog bites or dog attacks. With deliveries every day, including Sundays and holidays, carriers continue to experience dogbites in urban, suburban and rural settings.
Dog attacks and bites are 100 percent preventable when dog ownersremain vigilant and properly restrain their dogs.
To ensure mail carriers’ safety, dog owners must securely lock their dogin another room until a delivery exchange is done. If outside, dogs mustbe leashed, at a distance from the mailbox.
When a carrier feels unsafe, mail service could be interrupted, not onlyfor the dog owner, but for the entire neighborhood. When mail service isinterrupted, mail must be picked up at the Post Office. Service will notbe restored until the dog is properly restrained.
With your help, we can keep our carriers, your neighbors and your dogssafe. Thank you for protecting your pet and our mail carriers as wecontinue to bring packages and correspondence to your door each day.
Sincerely,
Tina Edmonds, Postmaster Rocky TopValerie Rosenow, Postmaster HeiskellGregg Lonas, Postmaster AndersonvilleKristi Hamilton, Postmaster Clinton

Anderson County, TN, April 2019 – Anderson County participated in the
2019 DEA Rx Drug Take Back Day on April 27th, 2019. Community members
brought their expired or unused medicines to one of the Anderson County
Take Back locations. Collection locations are located at the police departments
listed below.
- Clinton Police Department, 125 W Broad St, Clinton, TN 3716
- Oak Ridge Police Department, 200 S Tulane Ave, Oak Ridge, TN 37830
- Norris Police Department, 9 W Circle Road, Norris, TN 37828
- Rocky Top Police Department, 104 Lawson St, Rocky Top, TN 37769
The National Rx Drug Take Back Day addresses a crucial public safety and
public health issue. According to the 2015 National Survey on Drug Use and
Health, 6.4 million Americans misused controlled prescription drugs, and that
number has continued to climb in recent years. Studies show many of the
misused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, often from the
home medicine cabinet. The Take Back Day provides an opportunity for
Americans to prevent drug addiction and overdose deaths in our community
and communities across the U.S. Items that are accepted for disposal include
prescription medications (unwanted, expired, unused), antibiotics/steroids,
cold and flu medications, vitamins/herbal supplements, pet
medications, medication samples, and medication ointments/lotions.
Anderson County also has six permanent disposal bins located throughout the
county – one in each Police Department in Clinton, Norris, Oak Ridge,
Oliver Springs, and Rocky Top, as well as at Walgreens Oak Ridge next to the
pharmacy counter. These bins are available to community members anytime
for disposal. For more information, contact ASAP of Anderson at
865-457-3007 or visit www.ASAPofAnderson.org. For questions about
individual locations, contact the police departments directly.

I would like to say Thank You to I-75 Auto Parts located in
Caryville, TN for the generosity showed during a Tennessee
Firefighting Commission testing event held on April 6th, 2019.
They provided a vehicle from their property for the purpose of
testing firefighters so they could obtain certification at the level
of Firefighter II from the Tennessee Firefighting Commission.
They provided the Rocky Top Fire Department with a vehicle
and transported the vehicle for us to our designated testing site.
Six (6) firefighters from Anderson and Campbell Counties
attended this test event and were tested for the required practical
(hands-on) exam as a result of the generosity that I-75 Auto
Parts showed by providing the Rocky Top Fire Department their
vehicle and giving their time. The practical exam portion of the
certification process is required prior to taking the written exam
to obtain certification. All six (6) participants successfully passed
the practical exam of the certification process which we would not
have been able to do if not for I-75 Auto Parts’ willingness to help
a local fire department.
Thank you,
Joshua S Lane
Training Officer, Operator/AEMT
Rocky Top Fire Department
