Meet The GreensMeet The Greens

The Green family have lived in Mesquite for over 20 years. Ben and Sheila moved to Mesquite in 1989 so that their children would be able to attend Mesquite schools. In 1999, Ben and Sheila opened their own company, Integrity Air Conditioning, LLC, which is also located in Mesquite.

Their two children, Ricky and Christina, attended Mesquite ISD throughout elementary, junior high, and high school, where they received a good, solid education. They both graduated from North Mesquite High School. They were also members of the Mesquite Pee Wee Drill and Football Association, as well as various other Mesquite sports teams over the years. Ricky, their oldest, graduated from Texas A & M University in College Station, as did his wife, Megan, who also graduated from NMHS. Ricky and Megan now live in Mesquite with their seven-month old daughter, Jillian. Ricky works as a HVAC manager in Dallas and Megan is a 5th grade teacher in MISD. They are members of Shiloh Terrace Baptist Church. Christina graduated from Texas Tech University in Lubbock. She now lives in Dallas and works for an advertising rep fi rm. She enjoys playing on her company’s sports teams and spending time with her friends and her dog, Miller. The City of Mesquite has been a great place for the Green family to live. They have good friends and neighbors and have enjoyed all the family-friendly amenities Mesquite has to offer, such as the school system, public swimming pools, recreation centers, parks, and public events hosted by the City.

SUMMER READING

Ah summer. A glorious time of freedom, fun, swimming, staying up late, waking up late, doing nothing, and best of all, no school. Three months of pure bliss. Everyone from little fi rst graders to even high schoolers looks forward to it. It’s the best time of the

year. School ends, and that means no more homework, tests, projects, or any of that other boring stuff teachers make you do. It’s the perfect time to do nothing. But, if you actually do absolutely nothing, your brain will turn to mush, and when school eventually does roll around, it’ll be a wake up call you aren’t ready for. So how do you avoid feeling stupid when school starts? Personally, I, like lots of other kids, don’t enjoy work very much. But, reading is something I can do. Books are awesome. They’re like movies, but longer, and more interesting. Actually, some of the most famous movies are based off of books! The Lord of the Rings, Twilight, The Chronicles of Narnia, and Harry Potter were all books fi rst. One of my favorite authors is Rick Riordan. He wrote the Percy Jackson series which, what do you know, the fi rst book, The Lightning Thief , became a movie. The story is about this guy named Percy who one day fi nds out the Greek gods are real. And his dad is one of them. He goes on a quest to fi nd the lightning bolt of Zeus because it has been stolen. It’s a very good series. Another good author is Christopher Paul Curtis. He wrote the award winning book, The Watsons Go to Birmingham, a story about a family who takes a road trip to visit their grandparents in Birmingham, Alabama. The book, which contains historic elements from the Civil Rights Movement, is at times humorous and sad. Another good book by Curtis is Bud, Not Buddy, a story about a boy searching for his father. A good series is the Pendragon series by D.J. Machale. It’s about a boy named Bobby Pendragon, who is told there are ten dimensions, and he is supposed to be the leader of the protectors of all of them from an evil demon named Saint Dane. One more good series is the Maximum Ride series. It’s about these kids who get experimented on and can fl y. Yes, they have wings. I know it sounds kind of weird, but it’s full of action, and the main character, Max, is hilarious.

Just the other day, I picked up seventeen books from the library, and I was stopped by a stranger. “You’re going to read all of those? How old are you?” “Fourteen,” I told him. Needless to say, he was quite impressed. I’m in Academically Talented (AT) classes in school, and when asked how I got so smart, I simply say, I read a lot. The hatred of reading is alien to me. Without books, I don’t know where I’d be. So in between your wild parties, days at the beach, playing video games, shooting hoops, and hanging out with your friends, pick yourself up a good book this summer. You wouldn’t want your brain to turn to mush.
